How to assess the impact of courses aimed at problem-people : a discussion of a case-study In the context of high unemployment, a considerable course market has developped but their impact on finding a job remains quite uncertain. This paper provides an evaluation of a course aimed at problem job seekers, carried out in Bourgogne (middle-east region). Course attendance is most likely to be linked to job hunting and the setting up of more elaborate career plans. It looks as if other psychological changes are negligeable. Moreover, this assessment raises the question of the possible evil effects of such development on a more general level.

Using 22 pb−1 of data collected at LEP in 1992 on the peak of the Z resonance, the ALEPH collaboration has measured the polarisation of the tau leptons decaying into $$ev\bar v, \mu v\bar v$$ ,πν, ρν and a1 ν from their individual decay product distributions. Atomic and Electronic Structure of the Corundum (0001) Surface

AbstractThe electronic structure and geometry of the Al terminated corundum (0001) surface were studied using a slab model within the ab-initio Hartree-Fock technique. The distance between the top Al plane and the next O basal plane is found to be considerably reduced on relaxation (by 0.57 Å, i.e. by 68% of the corresponding interlayer distance in the bulk). An interpretation of experimental photoelectron spectra (UPS Hel) and metastable impact electron spectra (MIES) is given. Calculated projected densities of states exhibit a strong dependence on the relaxation of surface atoms.

Investigation of the porosity of silica and alumina with chemically bonded polystyrene

The effect of modification of porous silica and alumina with a copolymer of styrene and vinylsilane on the porosity of oxides have been investigated by means of low temperature nitrogen sorption. Only small changes of the specific surface area and of the specific pore volume were observed on modification of oxides with non-cross-linked copolymer. The specific surface area significantly increased after the cross-linking of the deposited polymeric layer while the specific pore volume remains almost unaffected. Updated precision measurement of the average lifetime of B hadrons

The measurement of the average lifetime of B hadrons using inclusively reconstructed secondary vertices has been updated using both an improved processing of previous data and additional statistics from new data. This has reduced the statistical and systematic uncertainties and gives \tau_{\mathrm{B}} = 1.582 \pm 0.011\ \mathrm{(stat.)} \pm 0.027\ \mathrm{(syst.)}\ \mathrm{ps.} Combining this result with the previous result based on charged particle impact parameter distributions yields \tau_{\mathrm{B}} = 1.575 \pm 0.010\ \mathrm{(stat.)} \pm 0.026\ \mathrm{(syst.)}\ \mathrm{ps.}

El crecimiento exponencial de la oferta de implantes de prótesis total de cadera hace difícil para el cirujano ortopédico establecer criterios de elección, por este motivo hemos realizado un análisis de la oferta actual de los mismos. Se han identificado 67 modelos de implantes de prótesis total de cadera primaria y 19 modelos de revisión comercializados en la comunidad catalana por 24 empresas. El número de variables, de material o diseño de los distintos modelos, sin tener en cuenta las diversas medidas de vástagos, cuellos y cótilos, ha sido de 55. 5'-d(CCTATAGATATCC) was reacted with each syn-enantiomer of trans-7,8-dihydroxy 9,10-epoxy 7,8,9,10-tetrahydrobenzo[a]pyrene (syn-BPDE). The (-)-enantiomer yielded one dominating adduct, whereas the (+)-enantiomer resulted in two major adducts. Electrocatalytic reduction of oxygen in aqueous solutions in the presence of ferrooctacarboxyphthalocyanine was investigated. The decay of catalytic properties is attributed to the phthalocyanine aggregation. The mechanism for the four-electron electrocatalytic O2-reduction in neutral and basic media involving FePc(COOH)8 is proposed. It has been found that monomers of phthalocyanine, which are able to form μ-peroxo structures, are the catalytically active forms. The adsorption of various phthalocyanine forms on the mercury electrode plays a very important role in the overall catalytic reaction.
