A low phase noise microwave source for high‐performance CPT Rb atomic clock

Abstract Phase noise of the frequency synthesizer is one of the main limitations to the short‐term stability of microwave atomic clocks. Here, a low‐noise, simple‐architecture microwave frequency synthesizer for a coherent population trapping (CPT) clock is demonstrated. The synthesizer is mainly composed of a 100 MHz oven‐controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO), a microwave comb generator, and a direct digital synthesizer (DDS). The absolute phase noises of 3.417 GHz signal are measured to be −55 dBc/Hz, −81 dBc/Hz, −111 dBc/Hz and −134 dBc/Hz, respectively, for 1 Hz, 10 Hz, 100 Hz and 1 kHz offset frequencies, which shows only 1 dB deterioration at the second harmonic of the modulation frequ…

Health Outcomes of Infants with Vitamin B12 Deficiency Identified by Newborn Screening and Early Treated

Objective To evaluate the clinical outcomes at age 1.5 ± 0.5 years of infants with vitamin B12 deficiency identified by newborn screening (NBS). Study design Prospective multicenter observational study on health outcomes of 31 infants with vitamin B12 deficiency identified by NBS. Neurodevelopment was assessed by the Denver Developmental Screening Test. Results In 285 862 newborns screened between 2016 and 2019, the estimated birth prevalence of vitamin B12 deficiency was 26 in 100 000 newborns, with high seasonal variations (lowest in summer: 8 in 100 000). Abstract Powdered mealworm (MW) and buffalo worm (BW) larvae were used to functionalize sourdough Italian-style breads. Sourdough inoculum was started with Levilactobacillus brevis, Weissella cibaria and Leuconostoc citreum. The doughs were SBS (semolina plus powdered BW larvae and sourdough) and SMS (semolina plus powdered MW larvae and sourdough) whose pHs (4.32 and 4.21, respectively) were higher than that of control (3.81). This work discusses on the problems of the differential diagnosis in paleopathology, describing one case of intense modification observed in a skeletal sample from the archaelogical site of Baucina (Sicily, VI century BCE). Difficulties in this setting originate mainly from the aspecificity or absence of pathological markers on ancient bones and confounding features arising from clinical phenocopies or taphonomic artifacts. On the base of an in-depth morphological analysis of the find, with aid of CT scan imaging and wide revision of the medical and paleopathological literature, we arrived to a convincing diagnosis.

Production of ethyl lactate by activated carbon-supported Sn and Zn oxide catalysts utilizing lignocellulosic side streams

Abstract In this study, activated carbon-supported Sn and Zn oxide catalysts were prepared from hydrolysis lignin and used for the conversion of model solutions of trioses, hexoses, and lignocellulosic biomass hydrolysates to ethyl lactate. Both catalysts, SnO2@AC and ZnO@AC, were able to produce ethyl lactate in high yields. SnO2@AC was a more active and selective catalyst in triose (dihydroxyacetone) conversion, providing 99% yield to ethyl lactate. ZnO@AC, by contrast, was more selective in glucose and hydrolysate conversion, with a yield of 60% and 85%, respectively. Technological and knowledge diffusion link: An international perspective 1870–2019

Abstract Technology diffusion is a necessary but not sufficient condition for knowledge diffusion. Technological waves' impact on education differs across educational levels. We use data for 104 countries on technology diffusion and education from 1870 to 2019. We find six technology waves from 1870 to 2019 had a substantial and statistically significant educational attainment impact using fixed panel data modeling. The impact differs across time and regions, with the most noticeable impact in Advanced economies and Eastern Europe. The Pion Single-Event Latch-Up Cross Section Enhancement: Mechanisms and Consequences for Accelerator Hardness Assurance

Pions make up a large part of the hadronic environment typical of accelerator mixed fields. Characterizing device cross sections against pions is usually disregarded in favor of tests with protons, whose single-event latch-up (SEL) cross section is, nonetheless, experimentally found to be lower than that of pions for all energies below 250 MeV. While Monte Carlo simulations are capable of reproducing such behavior, the reason for the observed pion cross-section enhancement can only be explained by a deeper analysis of the underlying mechanisms dominating proton–silicon and pion–silicon reactions. Abstract In this work, nickel-iron alloy nanostructured electrodes obtained by template electrosynthesis method are investigated for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions. Electrodes consist of nanowire arrays with high surface area that are able to ensures a high electrolytic activity. To obtain different alloy compositions, the concentration of the elements in the deposition baths is appropriately tuned. Organotin(IV) derivatives containing heteroditopic pyridyl-quinolin-8-olate ligands: Synthesis and structures

Abstract Six novel neutral organotin(IV) complexes, viz. [n-Bu2Sn(L4-PyAQ)2] 1, [Bz2Sn(L4-PyAQ)2] 2, [Ph2Sn(L4-PyAQ)2] 3, [Ph2Sn(L3-PyAQ)2] 4, [Bz3Sn(L4-PyAQ)] 5 and [Ph3Sn(L4-PyAQ)] 6 have been synthesized via reactions of 3/4-pyridyl-quinolin-8-ol pro-ligands, with appropriate diorganotin oxide and triorganotin hydroxide precursors, respectively. The compounds 1-6 were characterized in solution by means of NMR spectroscopy while the solid-state structures of 1, 6, and of the solvates 2·1.5C6H6, 3·0.25C6H6, 2·4·C6H6, and 5·0.5H2O were authenticated by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
