Spontaneous cytotoxic activity of eosinophilic granule cells separated from the normal peritoneal cavity ofDicentrarchus labrax

2000

Abstract In this study the spontaneous in vitro cytotoxic activity to tumour cell lines, (K562), by unstimulated sea bass ( Dicentrarchus labrax ) leukocytes was examined by trypan blue exclusion test and lactate dehydrogenase release assay. A high anti-tumour cell line activity of resident peritoneal leukocytes was found at an effector to target ratio (E:T) of 25:1 after incubation for 2 h at 18° C. Rabbit and sheep erythrocytes were not lysed. A low activity was displayed by head kidney and spleen cell populations whereas blood leukocytes revealed no significant activity. The effect of E:T ratio on cytotoxicity as well as microscopy observations suggested that the cytotoxic reaction requi…

Dažādu astmas vērtēšanas parametru korelācija: plaušu funkcija (FEV), NO izelpas gaisā (FeNO) un eozinofīlu skaits asinīs.

2018

108 pacienti jeb 6…

Cluster analysis of clinical data reveals three pediatric eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorder phenotypes

2022

Primary eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs) are a spectrum of emerging inflammatory diseases, which may involve any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and lead to a pathological eosinophilic mucosal infiltration.1,2 Based on the anatomical site of the eosinophil inflammation, EGIDs are classified into eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and nonesophageal EGIDs.This study aimed to characterize EGIDs heterogeneity by performing cluster analysis on a cohort of children and adolescents followed at the Pediatric Center for Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders (CPED) in Pavia, Italy, using an extensive pediatric primary care database from our University Hospital

Liver eosinophilic infiltrate is a significant finding in patients with chronic hepatitis C.

2008

Eosinophilic infiltrate of liver tissue is described in primary cholestatic diseases, hepatic allograft rejection and drug-induced liver injury, but its significance and its implications in chronic hepatitis C are unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical significance of eosinophilic liver infiltrate in patients with chronic hepatitis C. We retrospectively evaluated 147 patients with chronic hepatitis C. The presence of eosinophilic infiltrate was investigated in liver biopsies, and a numeric count of eosinophilic leucocytes in every portal tract was assessed. An eosinophilic infiltrate of liver tissue (> or =3 cells evaluated in the portal / periportal spaces) was obse…

The Effect of Intranasal Corticosteroids on Asthma Control and Quality of Life in Allergic Rhinitis with Mild Asthma

2011

BACKGROUND: The mechanisms through which rhinitis affects asthma have not been completely elucidated. We explored whether the effect of nasal treatment on asthma control and respiratory-related quality of life (HRQoL) is mediated by inflammatory changes of the upper and lower airways. METHODS: Allergic rhinitics with mild asthma were randomized to a 14-day treatment period with either nasal budesonide 100 mug, 1 puff per nostril twice a day, or placebo. Clinical, functional, and biological evaluations were performed before and after treatment. RESULTS: Twenty subjects (M/F: 10/10; age: 31 +/- 15 years; mean +/- SD) were enrolled, and a total of 17 individuals completely participated in the …

Nasal budesonide efficacy for nasal nitric oxide and nasal obstruction in rhinitis

2017

Nasal nitric oxide (nNO) is a noninvasive tool that may be helpful in evaluating the inflammatory status in the upper airways [1]. Previous studies report that nNO is elevated in children with Allergic Rhinitis (AR) [2], especially in perennial sensitized subjects [3], and that it may be affected by topical administration of intranasal steroids (INSs) [4]. Non-invasive markers of airway inflammation and remodeling in childhood asthma

2009

To evaluate the relationship between pro-inflammatory and pro-remodeling mediators and severity and control of asthma in children, the levels of IL-8, MMP-9, TIMP-1 in induced sputum supernatants, the number of sputum eosinophils, as well as FeNO, were investigated in 35 asthmatic children, 12 with intermittent (IA) and 23 with moderate asthma (MA), and 9 controls (C). The patients with asthma were followed for 1 yr and sputum was obtained twice during the follow-up. Biomarker levels were correlated with the number of exacerbations. We found that IL-8, MMP-9, TIMP-1 and the numbers of eosinophils in induced sputum, as well as FeNO, were increased in children with IA and MA in comparison to …

The Role of Transforming Growth Factor-β1 in Airway Inflammation of Childhood Asthma

2013

TGF-beta-targeting structural and inflammatory cells has been implicated in the mechanisms leading to the inflammatory and restructuring processes in asthma, suggesting an impact of TGF-beta1 signaling on the development and persistency of this disease. We investigated the potential early involvement of TGF-beta1 activity in the immunological and molecular mechanisms underlying progression of inflammation in childhood asthma. We evaluated the levels of TGF-beta1 in induced sputum supernatants (ISSs) and the expression of small mother cell against decapentaplegic (Smad) 2 and Smad7 proteins in induced sputum cells (ISCs) from children with intermittent asthma (IA), moderate asthma (MA) and c…
