Determination of the cultivar and aging of Sicilian olive oils using HPLC-MS and linear discriminant analysis

A large number of certified samples (84) of Sicilian olive oils arising from the eight cultivars most represented in Sicily (Biancolilla, Cerasuola, Moresca, Nocellara del Belice, Nocellara Etnea, Oglialora Messinese, Brandofino and Tonda Iblea) have been collected and analyzed by HPLC/MS using an atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) source. The sample preparation is very simple; in fact, the oil samples are diluted without any chemical derivatization. Long-term stability study of clofarabine injection concentrate and diluted clofarabine infusion solutions

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the physicochemical stability of clofarabine (CAFdA) injection concentrate and ready-to-use CAFdA infusion solutions over a prolonged period of 28 days. Methods: To determine the stability of CAFdA infusion solutions, the injection concentrate (Evoltra®, 1 mg/mL, Genzyme) was diluted either with 0.9% sodium chloride or 5% glucose infusion solution. The resulting concentrations of 0.2 mg/mL or 0.6 mg/mL, respectively, were chosen to represent the lower and upper limit of the ordinary concentration range. The impact of supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCD) (10-60 MPa/45 °C/30 min) and subsequent 10 weeks storage at 4 °C on polyphenol oxidase (PPO), peroxidase (POD) activities, phenolic profile, vitamin C, sugars, physicochemical properties of cloudy apple juices was investigated. No significant changes in sugars and total polyphenols were observed, whereas significant degradation (≈28%) of vitamin C and individual polyphenols (≈18%) was noted after SCCD treatment. After 4 weeks storage only 34% of vitamin C was retained and no vitamin C was detected after this time. Selective labelling of melittin with a fluorescent dansylcadaverine probe using guinea-pig liver transglutaminase

Abstract Melittin, a C-terminal peptide, incorporated the fluorescent probe monodansylcadaverine (DNC) when catalysed by guinea-pig liver transglutaminase and Ca2+, as determined by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). A 1:1 adduct DNC-melittin was identified in which a single glutamine residue out of two, i.e. Gln25, acts as acyl donor. Incubation of melittin with transglutaminase in the absence of DNC originated high molecular mass complexes indicative that the peptide lysine residue can act as an acyl acceptor. Occurrence of fumonisins B1 and B2 in broa, typical Portuguese maize bread

Fumonisin B1 (FB1) and fumonisin B2 (FB2) are mycotoxins mainly produced by Fusarium verticillioides, and Fusarium proliferatum, fungi species most commonly isolated from maize. The natural occurrence of FB1 and FB2 in broa, typical Portuguese maize bread, was evaluated in 30 samples. Twenty five were found positive with levels ranging from 142 to 550 [mu]g kg- 1. The limit established by the European regulations was exceeded by 27% of the samples. The tolerable daily intake for fumonisin B1, and B2, alone or in combination, for all of the analysed samples, was lower than 2 [mu]g kg- 1 body weight per day established by the European Commission. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/B…

Abstract A fast and reliable two-step method has been established for the chemical synthesis of 6-thioguanosine 5′-monophosphate, 6-thioguanosine 5′-diphosphate and 6-thioguanosine 5′-triphosphate starting from the ribonucleoside. Chromatographic and mass spectrometric characteristics of 20-dihydroaldosterone.

The 20 alpha-reduced derivative of aldosterone, 20 alpha-dihydroaldosterone, was needed as reference compound in order to continue the studies on 18-hydroxylation in the Y-1 adrenal cell line. It was obtained by reduction of aldosterone with sodium borohydride. Analysis of the products of the reaction as methoxime trimethylsilyl (MO-TMS) derivatives by gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) showed three possible forms of the compound. Raffinose family oligosaccharides are non-digestible compounds considered as dietary prebiotics with health-related properties. Hence, it is important to develop highly specific methods for their determination. Antioxidant activity and chemical composition of three Tunisian Cistus: Cistus monspeliensis Cistus villosus and Cistus libanotis

The chemical composition of three rockrose Cistus species, Cistus monspeliensis, Cistus libanotis and Cistus villosus, collected in Tunisia, was studied by HPTLC, focusing on the terpenes and phenols constituents. Diterpenes of Cistus are important as the main constituents of the leaf sticky aromatic resin, known as labdanum, which are highly appreciated in perfumery. Polyphenols in the methanolic extracts of each species were identified, quantified as total and as flavonoids and tannins, and tested for antioxidant activity.
