Kinetics of doublet formation in bicomponent magnetic suspensions: The role of the magnetic permeability anisotropy

2017

Micron-sized particles (microbeads) dispersed in a suspension of magnetic nanoparticles, i.e., ferrofluids, can be assembled into different types of structures upon application of an externalmagnetic field. This paper is devoted to theoretical modeling of a relative motion of a pair of microbeads (either soft ferromagnetic or diamagnetic) in the ferrofluid under the action of applied uniform magnetic field which induces magnetic moments in the microbeads making them attracting to each other. The model is based on a point-dipole approximation for the magnetic interactions between microbeads mediated by the ferrofluid; however, the ferrofluid is considered to possess an anisotropic magnetic p…

Polymeric monolithic microcartridges with gold nanoparticles for the analysis of protein biomarkers by on-line solid-phase extraction capillary elect…

2020

In this study, polymeric monoliths with gold nanoparticles (AuNP@monolith) were investigated as microcartridges for the analysis of protein biomarkers by on-line solid-phase extraction capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (SPE-CE-MS). “Plug-and-play” microcartridges (7 mm) were prepared from a glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)-based monolithic capillary column (5 cm x 250 µm i.d.), which was modified with ammonia and subsequently functionalized with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The performance of these novel microcartridges was evaluated with human transthyretin (TTR), which is a protein related to different types of familial amyloidotic polyneuropathies (FAP). Protein retention depended on…

Magnetic characteristics of industrial dust from different sources of emission: A case study of Poland

2015

Abstract Dust emission and deposition in topsoil have negative effect on individual components of the ecosystem. In addition to routine geochemical analyses, magnetic measurements may provide useful complementary information related to the type, concentration and grain-size distribution of the technogenic magnetic particles (TMPs) and thus the degree of contamination of the environment. The aim of this contribution is to use magnetic parameters in distinguishing dust from a wide range of sources of air pollution (power industry, cement, coke, ceramic industries and biomass combustion). We measured magnetic susceptibility, hysteresis parameters and thermomagnetic curves. Our results suggest …

Coupled stochastic dynamics of magnetic moment and anisotropy axis of a magnetic nanoparticle

2012

An algorithm is developed for numerical simulation of coupled stochastic dynamics of magnetic moment and magnetic anisotropy axis of a nanoparticle. Time-correlation functions of the magnetic moment and its components longitudinal and transverse to the magnetic anisotropy axis are calculated by averaging along the stochastic trajectory. The longitudinal and transverse relaxation times are found by fitting the time correlation functions. Existing theoretical relations derived by the effective field approach in the limit of small fields are confirmed. The time-correlation functions of magnetic moments of nanoparticles in dependence on their properties are calculated numerically for arbitrary …

Conformation and dynamics of the ligand shell of a water-soluble Au102 nanoparticle

2016

Inorganic nanoparticles, stabilized by a passivating layer of organic molecules, form a versatile class of nanostructured materials with potential applications in material chemistry, nanoscale physics, nanomedicine and structural biology. While the structure of the nanoparticle core is often known to atomic precision, gaining precise structural and dynamical information on the organic layer poses a major challenge. Here we report a full assignment of 1H and 13C NMR shifts to all ligands of a water-soluble, atomically precise, 102-atom gold nanoparticle stabilized by 44 para-mercaptobenzoic acid ligands in solution, by using a combination of multidimensional NMR methods, density functional t…

Magnetic Nanoparticles as Many-Spin Systems

2005

We have demonstrated by different analytical and numerical methods the importance of accounting for the magnetization inhomogeneities in magnetic nanoparticles, especially in the presence of surface anisotropy. The latter makes the magnetization inhomogeneous even at T = 0 and in general modifies the relation between the intrinsic and induced magnetizations. It also changes the magnetization switching mechanism, since for strong surface anisotropy the particle’s spins switch cluster-wise. For weak surface anisotropy we have been able to calculate the spin canting in the particle analytically and to obtain a novel second-order contribution to the particle’s overall anisotropy. It remains to …

An in vitro and in vivo study of peptide-functionalized nanoparticles for brain targeting: The importance of selective blood-brain barrier uptake

2017

Targeted delivery of drugs across endothelial barriers remains a formidable challenge, especially in the case of the brain, where the blood-brain barrier severely limits entry of drugs into the central nervous system. Nanoparticle-mediated transport of peptide/protein-based drugs across endothelial barriers shows great potential as a therapeutic strategy in a wide variety of diseases. Functionalizing nanoparticles with peptides allows for more efficient targeting to specific organs. We have evaluated the hemocompatibilty, cytotoxicity, endothelial uptake, efficacy of delivery and safety of liposome, hyperbranched polyester, poly(glycidol) and acrylamide-based nanoparticles functionalized wi…

Smart copolymer coated SPIONs for colon cancer chemotherapy

2019

Human colon cancer is one of the higher aggressive solid tumors, whose high mortality, much like many other solid tumors, results from metastasis formation. To reduce this high mortality, more effective chemotherapy, allowing a specific tumor accumulation and an efficient early-stage medical imaging as well, are still needed. At this regard, stimuli-responsive nanocarriers for anticancer drug delivery are promising strategy in cancer therapy. For this purpose, a dual targeted redox-responsive drug delivery system, prepared by coating superparamagnetic nanoparticles (SPIONs) with the amphiphilic copolymer INU-LA-PEG-FA and loading doxorubicin (DOXO-SPIONs) was investigated as tool for solid …
