On the improvement of monumental structure safety: a case study

2006

The present paper deals with the problem of the preservation of the monumental patrimony and discusses a practical application. The analysis methodology based on modern dynamic identification techniques was used for a monumental church in the historic area of Catania (Italy). The dynamic response of the church was measured in terms of accelerations, by means of vibration tests in situ. The numerical analyses highlighted the vulnerability of the drum dome system. Hence interest focused on this part of the building. A reduced scale model of the above system was built to be subjected to dynamic tests on a shaking table at the ENEA laboratory at Casaccia (Rome). Different kinds of reversible de…

Biproportional Method for Analysing Interindustry Dynamics: the case of France

1990

Two elements are being presented in this paper: (1) A new and original method for analysing matrix dynamics, called the synthetical biproportional projector method (SBP), which can be used to project input–output tables and compare one with another. (2) Some results for France for the important period 1970–85. The paper starts with the observation that no systematic study of the change in the French productive structure as displayed In the input–output tables (tableaux entries-sorties in France) has ever been made. This is unfortunate, since a complete series of data is now available concerning a key period of the French economic evolution including the petroleum crisis, European integratio…

Improvement of Resveratrol Permeation through Sublingual Mucosa: Chemical Permeation Enhancers versus Spray Drying Technique to Obtain Fast-Disintegr…

2021

Resveratrol (RSV) is a natural polyphenol with several interesting broad-spectrum pharmacological properties. However, it is characterized by poor oral bioavailability, extensive first-pass effect metabolism and low stability. Indeed, RSV could benefit from the advantage of the sublingual route of administration. In this view, RSV attitudes to crossing the porcine sublingual mucosa were evaluated and promoted both by six different chemical permeation enhancers (CPEs) as well as by preparing four innovative fast-disintegrating sublingual mini-tablets by spray drying followed by direct compression. Since RSV by itself exhibits a low permeation aptitude, this could be significantly enhanced by…

Analysis of the cleaved topaz (001) surface.

2003

We report on the first study of the cleaved (001) topaz surface and the characterization of the chemical composition and atomic arrangement of the surface. We conclude that there is strong evidence for a hydroxyl group termination appropriate for further chemical reactions. The surface itself is easily accessible, atomically flat and suitable for potential technological applications.

Considerations on systematics of the Phytoseiidae (Acari: Mesostigmata), with definition of a new species…

2015

The authors debate some aspects of the classification of the Phytoseiidae, especially the subfamily Typhlodrominae. Within this taxon, the rhenanus group is the most numerous species group of Typhlodromus (Anthoseius), with 206 nominal species. Detailed observation of morphological characters of the species in this group showed a considerable variation, suggesting the presence of different natural lineages. The discovery of the new species here described, Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) sandrae Ragusa & Tsolakis n. sp., allowed the definition of the new porathi species group. Definition of the new species group, a dichotomous key as well as the description of the new species are given.

ChemInform Abstract: New Route to Herbertanes via a Suzuki Cross-Coupling Reaction: Synthesis of Herbertenediol.

2010

Abstract The synthesis of herbertenediol, a relevant member of the herbertane-type sesquiterpene family, is described. The synthesis is based on a new general approach to this group of sesquiterpenes where the herbertane skeleton is constructed using a Suzuki cross-coupling reaction and a [2,3]-sigmatropic Still–Wittig rearrangement as key synthetic steps.
