A review on LiNixCo1−2xMnxO2 (0.1 ≤ x ≤ 0.33) cathode materials for rechargeable Li-ion batteries

2021

Abstract Electrochemical and physical properties of LiNixCo1−2xMnxO2 (0.1 ≤ x ≤ 0.33) electrode materials prepared by self-combustion were investigated. Pure LiNixCo1−2xMnxO2 (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.33) materials with single phase and R-3 m layered structure were obtained as confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy are commonly used to determine the chemical composition and the distribution of particle size of the three samples. The electrochemical performances of the samples were measured at different current rates in the 3–4.5 V potential range. The studied materials exhibit good discharge capacity. The magnetic susceptibility measurements and …

Evaluation of Vertical Fatigue Cracks by Means of Flying Laser Thermography

2019

The present paper proposes a new procedure to analyze the temperature field distribution during Flying Laser Spot and Laser Line Thermographic scanning (FLST, FLLT) of metallic components, in order to detect vertical surface cracks. The methodology exploits the changes in the temperature field produced by a vertical crack, acting as a barrier towards heat diffusion, when the laser approaches the defect. A number of small regions of interests (ROIs) is placed nearby and around the laser source. The average temperature from each ROI is then monitored during the laser scanning. Vertical cracks can be detected by analyzing and comparing the temperature fluctuations from each ROI when the laser …

Optimization of a laser ion source for $^{163}$Ho isotope separation

2019

To measure the mass of the electron neutrino, the “Electron Capture in Holmium-163” (ECHo) collaboration aims at calorimetrically measuring the spectrum following electron capture in 163Ho. The success of the ECHo experiment depends critically on the radiochemical purity of the 163Ho sample, which is ion-implanted into the calorimeters. For this, a 30 kV high transmission magnetic mass separator equipped with a resonance ionization laser ion source is used. To meet the ECHo requirements, the ion source unit was optimized with respect to its thermal characteristics and material composition by means of the finite element method thermal-electric calculations and chemical equilibrium simulation…

The Role of Right Interpretation of Space Charge Distribution for Optimized Design of HVDC Cables

2019

In the field of high-voltage transmission systems, different degradation phenomena affect the reliability of the employed components. In particular, under dc stress, the space charge accumulation phenomenon is believed to be the most responsible of the dielectrics lifetime reduction. To measure the accumulated space charges in flat specimens, the pulsed electro-acoustic (PEA) method is one of the most used techniques. The working principle of the PEA cell is based on the acoustic waves propagation and detection. As is well known, the acoustic waves propagating in different means are partially transmitted and partially reflected. Therefore, the piezoelectric sensor of the PEA cell is subject…

Commissioning of the vacuum system of the KATRIN Main Spectrometer

2016

The KATRIN experiment will probe the neutrino mass by measuring the β-electron energy spectrum near the endpoint of tritium β-decay. An integral energy analysis will be performed by an electro-static spectrometer (``Main Spectrometer''), an ultra-high vacuum vessel with a length of 23.2 m, a volume of 1240 m[superscript 3], and a complex inner electrode system with about 120 000 individual parts. The strong magnetic field that guides the β-electrons is provided by super-conducting solenoids at both ends of the spectrometer. Its influence on turbo-molecular pumps and vacuum gauges had to be considered. A system consisting of 6 turbo-molecular pumps and 3 km of non-evaporable getter strips ha…

Charge breeding at GANIL: Improvements, results, and comparison with the other facilities

2019

International audience; The 1+/n+ method, based on an ECRIS charge breeder (CB) originally developed at the LPSC laboratory, is now implemented at GANIL for the production of Radioactive Ion Beams (RIBs). Prior to its installation in the middle of the low energy beam line of the SPIRAL1 facility, the 1+/n+ system CB has been modified based on the experiments performed on the CARIBU Facility at Argone National Laboratory. Later, it has been tested at the 1+/n+ LPSC test bench to validate its operation performances. Charge breeding efficiencies as well as charge breeding times have been measured for noble gases and alkali elements. The commissioning phase started at GANIL in the second half-y…

Spontaneous order in ensembles of rotating magnetic droplets

2019

Ensembles of elongated magnetic droplets in a rotating field are studied experimentally. In a given range of field strength and frequency the droplets form rotating structures with a triangular order - rotating crystals. A model is developed to describe ensembles of several droplets, taking into account the hydrodynamic interactions between the rotating droplets in the presence of a solid wall below the rotating ensemble. A good agreement with the experimentally observed periodic dynamics for an ensemble of four droplets is obtained. During the rotation, the tips of the elongated magnetic droplets approach close to one another. An expression is derived that gives the magnetic interaction be…

Silicon dosimeters based on Floating Gate Sensor: design, implementation and characterization

2020

A rad-hard monolithic dosimeter has been implemented and characterized in a standard 180 nm CMOS technology. The radiation sensor (C-sensor) is based on a Floating Gate (FG) MOS discharge principle. The output current is processed by a current-to-voltage (I/V) interface and then converted by a 5-bit flash ADC. The dosimeter is re-usable (FG can be recharged) and can detect a dose up to 1krad (Si) with a resolution of 30rad (Si) typical over temperature 0 to 85°C range. The ADC allows easy further signal processing for calibration and averaging, etc. The power consumption of C-sensor plus I/V interface is < 2mW from a 5 V power supply. The overall layout area is less than 0.25mm2. The Rad…

Development of hard x-ray photoelectron SPLEED-based spectrometer applicable for probing of buried magnetic layer valence states

2016

Abstract A novel design of high-voltage compatible polarimeter for spin-resolved hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (Spin-HAXPES) went into operation at beamline BL09XU of SPring-8 in Hyogo, Japan. The detector is based on the well-established principle of electron diffraction from a W(001) single-crystal at a scattering energy of 103.5 eV. It's special feature is that it can be operated at a high negative bias potential up to 10 kV, necessary to access the HAXPES range. The polarimeter is operated behind a large hemispherical analyzer (Scienta R-4000). It was optimized for high transmission of the transfer optics. A delay-line detector (20 mm dia.) is positioned at the exit plane of the…

Low complexity digital background calibration algorithm for the correction of timing mismatch in time-interleaved ADCs

2019

Abstract A low-complexity post-processing algorithm to estimate and compensate for timing skew error in a four-channel time-interleaved analog to digital converter (TIADC) is presented in this paper, together with its hardware implementation. The Lagrange interpolator is used as the reconstruction filter which alleviates online interpolator redesign by using a simplified representation of coefficients. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can suppress error tones for input signal frequency from 0 to 0.4 f s . The proposed structure has, at least, 41% reduction in the number of required multipliers. Implementation of the algorithm, for a four-channel 10-bit TIADC, show that, f…
