The dynamics of personal norms and the determinants of cultural homogeneity

This article studies the emergence of cultural homogeneity in personal norms when the behavior of heterogeneous individuals is driven both by economic incentives and by personal norms. Agents participate in a team production game by choosing their level of costly effort. Norms evolve along the life cycle of the individuals according to two psychological forces: cognitive dissonance or consistency and informational conformity. A data-driven surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithm applied to a many-objective blast furnace optimization problem

A new data-driven reference vector-guided evolutionary algorithm has been successfully implemented to construct surrogate models for various objectives pertinent to an industrial blast furnace. A total of eight objectives have been modeled using the operational data of the furnace using 12 process variables identified through a principal component analysis and optimized simultaneously. The capability of this algorithm to handle a large number of objectives, which has been lacking earlier, results in a more efficient setting of the operational parameters of the furnace, leading to a precisely optimized hot metal production process. peerReviewed
Bakteriofāga AP205 apvalka proteīna strukturālie pētījumi

Darbā ar rentgenstruktūranalīzes palīdzību tika noteikta Acinetobacter fāga AP205 apvalka proteīna struktūra 1,9 Å izšķirtspējā. Proteīna vispārējā struktūra ir līdzīga radniecīgo bakteriofāgu iepriekš noteiktajām struktūrām, bet ir vērojamas vairākas būtiskas atšķirības, no kurām nozīmīgākā ir C- un N- galu atrašanās uz kapsīdas virsmas. Iegūtie rezultāti izskaidro AP205 fāga kapsīdu toleranci pret garām insercijām C- un N- galos, kā arī paver ceļu racionālai apvalka proteīna modificēšanai praktiskiem pielietojumiem. In this article, we (1) examine the various forms of support required by older users (75+) of digital technology and (2) provide a concrete, everyday life rationale for why warm experts play such a pivotal role in the processes of adopting and using ICT. Although warm experts are usually not older adults themselves, they provide an important mediating view on the technology use among older people that has not been rigorously addressed in previous studies. Thus, in our analysis we examine the younger family members’ views on acting as warm experts to their older family members. Measuring economic inequality in Southern Europe: the Iberian Peninsula in the 14th-17th centuries

This work explores the inequality of wealth in Spain during the late Middle Ages from six cities located in the kingdoms of Castile (Seville) and the Crown of Aragon (Barcelona, Valencia, Mallorca, Castelló and Valls), through tax sources that inform about the wealth of each taxpayer. These records provide very precise data on the wealth distribution that allow us to study inequality in an aggregate manner for the same city and, at the same time, perform sectoral analyses according to gender, different socio-professio¬nal groups and urban districts.

Vaikka kansallisesti kohdennetaan runsaasti resursseja tietojärjestelmäpalveluiden kehittämiseen, sosiaalialalta tutkimusta aiheesta löytyy niukasti.
