Asymmetric synthesis of polycyclic 3-fluoroalkylproline derivatives by intramolecular azomethine ylide cycloaddition

The asymmetric synthesis of polycyclic fluorinated proline derivatives has been accomplished by means of an intramolecular azomethine ylide cycloaddition with fluorinated dipolarophiles. Thus, the reaction of benzaldehydes bearing a trifluoromethyl alkene in ortho position with an azomethine ylide precursor derived from chiral 2-amino indanol takes place with excellent levels of diastereoselectivity, with simultaneous generation of four stereocenters. In order to determine the influence of the fluorine moiety in the process, starting material bearing non-fluorinated alkenes were synthesised. Click chemistry at a tetrazine core is useful for bioorthogonal labeling and crosslinking. Introduced here are two new classes of doubly clickable s-aryl tetrazines synthesized by Cu-catalyzed cross-coupling. Homocoupling of o-brominated s-aryl tetrazines leads to bis(tetrazine)s structurally characterized by tetrazine cores arranged face-to-face. [N]8 π-stacking interactions are essential to the conformation. Upon inverse electron demand Diels-Alder (iEDDA) cycloaddition, the bis(tetrazine)s produce a unique staple structure. Synthesis, characterization and magnetic properties of mixed-valence iron complexes with 2-pyridyl oximes

Two new mixed-valence iron complexes with 2-pyridyl oximes, [Fe(mpko)3Fe(H2O)2(NO3)](NO3)·2H2O (1) (mpko− = methyl(2-pyridyl)ketone oximate) and [{Fe(dpko)3}2Fe](ClO4)·4H2O (2) (dpko− = bis(2-pyridyl)ketone oximate), have been prepared by reaction of FeIII with mpkoH in methanol (1) and FeII with dpkoH in methanol/water (2). Dinuclear FeII(low-spin)FeIII(high-spin) and trinuclear FeII(low-spin)FeIII(high-spin)FeII(low-spin) cations are present in the crystal structure of 1 and 2, respectively. Intermolecular hydrogen bonds in 1 lead to weak antiferromagnetic interactions between pairs of neighboring FeIII centers, which allows observation of single-ion zero-field splitting effects.

Abstract This work is devoted to the investigation of the thermally induced spin-crossover behavior from a high-spin state (HS, S = 3/2) at higher temperatures to a low-spin phase (LS, S = 1/2) at lower temperatures of the six-coordinate cobalt(II) complex in the compound [Co(terpy)2]3[NbO(C2O4)3]2·3CH3OH·4H2O (2). The crystal structure of 2 together with that of its counterion as tetraphenylarsonium(V) salt (AsPh4)3[NbO(C2O4)3]·9H2O (1) are also included. Functionalization of Bambusurils by a Thiol-Ene Click Reaction and a Facile Method for the Preparation of Anion-Free Bambus[6]urils

Sulfide-functionalized bambus[4]urils ((RS)8 BU[4]) and bambus[6]urils ((RS)12 BU[6]) were synthesized through thiol-ene click coupling reactions (TEC) of allylbambus[n]urils. Thiosugars were grafted to BU[4] and BU[6]. Synthesis of BU[6] derivatives always requires the use of a template anion (iodide, chloride, or bromide), which is enclosed in the cavity of BU[6]. We show that this anion influences the reactivity of bambus[6]urils. An encapsulated iodide makes allyl functions of allyl12 BU[6] less reactive towards TEC and hydrogenation reactions in comparison to the corresponding chloride or bromide inclusion complexes. Guest-Induced Folding and Self-Assembly of Conformationally Adaptive Macrocycles into Nanosheets and Nanotubes

A conformationally adaptive macrocycle is presented, namely zorb[4]arene, which exists in multiple conformations in the uncomplexed state. The binding cavity of zorb[4]arene is concealed, either due to a collapsed conformation or by self-inclusion. The zorb[4]arene with long alkyl chains manifests itself with surprisingly low melting point and thus exist as an oil at room temperature. Binding of a guest molecule induces the folding and conformational rigidity of zorb[4]arene and leads to well-defined three-dimensional structures, which can further self-assemble into nanosheets or nanotubes upon solvent evaporation, depending on guest molecules and the conformations they can induce.

Abstract The chemical characterization of methylene chloride/methanol (1:1) extract of the air-dried whole medicinal plant, Pulicaria jaubertii E. Gamal-Eldin, led to isolation and identification of two new hydroquinone compounds; 2-(2-acetoxy propyl), 5-methyl hydroquinone (1) and 2-(2-hydroxy propyl), 5-methyl hydroquinone-4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), four known flavonols (3-6) and 7 known dihydroflavonols (7-13). The structures were established depending upon comprehensive analysis of the NMR, IR and HR/EI-MS data. Herein, compounds 6, and 10-13 were isolated for the first time from this plant.
