Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS and RNS, e.g. H2O2, nitric oxide) confer redox regulation of essential cellular signaling pathways such as cell differentiation, proliferation, migration and apoptosis. At higher concentrations, ROS and RNS lead to oxidative stress and oxidative damage of biomolecules (e.g. via formation of peroxynitrite, fenton chemistry). The microbiota has been linked to the development of atherosclerosis, but the functional impact of these resident bacteria on the lesion size and cellular composition of atherosclerotic plaques in the aorta has never been experimentally addressed with the germ-free low-density lipoprotein receptor-deficient (Ldlr(-/-)) mouse atherosclerosis model. Aberrant splicing of the tumor suppressor CYLD promotes the development of chronic lymphocytic leukemia via sustained NF-κB signaling

The pathogenesis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) has been linked to constitutive NF-κB activation but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Here we show that alternative splicing of the negative regulator of NF-κB and tumor suppressor gene CYLD regulates the pool of CD5+ B cells through sustained canonical NF-κB signaling. Reinforced canonical NF-κB activity leads to the development of B1 cell-associated tumor formation in aging mice by promoting survival and proliferation of CD5+ B cells, highly reminiscent of human B-CLL. Abstract Local field potentials (LFPs) may afford insight into the mechanisms of action of deep brain stimulation (DBS) and potential feedback signals for adaptive DBS. In Parkinson's disease (PD) DBS of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) suppresses spontaneous activity in the beta band and drives evoked resonant neural activity (ERNA). Here, we investigate how STN LFP activities change over time following the onset and offset of DBS.
