Combined therapy with acyclovir and adenosine arabinoside in herpes simplex encephalitis.

We report a case of herpes simplex encephalitis (HSE) with initial coma and severe left-sided hemiparesis in which combined treatment with adenine arabinoside and acyclovir was followed by complete recovery. This favorable result is discussed in view of the literature of HSE treatment including experimental studies on antiviral activity of both drugs. Combined treatment may be useful in severe cases of HSE.

Properties of Generalized Polynomial Spaces in Three Variables

Multivariate interpolation is a topic which often appears in practical modeling problems. Different type of spaces of functions are used for solving interpolation problems. When the interpolation conditions are of different kind, by example, spacial and temporal, one possibility for modeling the problem is to use a generalize degree, in which the monomials exponents are weighted with a weight vector with integer components. In order to use such a generalize polynomial space as interpolation space, it is necessary to know the dimension and a basis of it. The aim of this article is to study and prove many properties of the generalize polynomial spaces in three variables.

Abstract A chemometric study on the prediction of the main nutritional aspects of milk has been carried out by using fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) attenuated total reflectance (ATR) measurements of commercially available milk samples of different types. Whole, semi and skimmed milks, enriched or not with calcium, vitamins or modified by alteration of lipid or sugar composition were considered. Attenuated total reflectance (ATR) infrared spectroscopy of dried organic extracts of serum samples has been evaluated as a fast method for the determination of triglycerides, cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL). After careful selection of solvents based on green parameters, serum samples were extracted using hexane-isopropanol and ethyl acetate-ethanol mixtures. A chemometric study of the simultaneous determination of calcium and magnesium in natural waters

A method for the simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of calcium and magnesium in mineral waters with an FIA system is tested. The method is based on the reaction between the analytes and arsenazo(III) at pH 8.5. The calculations of the amounts of both analytes in the samples are carried out with the H-point standard addition method (HPSAM) for ternary mixtures, and with a partial least squares (PLS) model after a proper variable selection.
