Equilibrium, Kinetic and Structural Properties of Gallium(III) and Some Divalent Metal Complexes Formed with the New DATAm and DATA5m Ligands

2017

The development of 68Ge/68Ga generators has made the positron-emitting 68Ga isotope widely accessible and raised interest in new chelate complexes of Ga3+. The hexadentate 1,4-di(acetate)-6-methyl[amino(methyl)acetate]perhydro-1,4-diazepane (DATAm) ligand and its bifunctional analogue, 1,4-di(acetate)-6-pentanoic acid[amino(methyl)acetate]perhydro-1,4-diazepane (DATA5m), rapidly form complexes with 68Ga in high radiochemical yield. The stability constants of DATAm and DATA5m complexes formed with Ga3+, Zn2+, Cu2+, Mn2+ and Ca2+ have been determined by using pH potentiometry, spectrophotometry (Cu2+) and 1H and 71Ga NMR spectroscopy (Ga3+). The stability constants of Ga(DATAm) and Ga(DATA5m)…

In vivo comparison of DOTA based 68Ga-labelled bisphosphonates for bone imaging in non-tumour models.

2013

Bone metastases are a class of cancerous metastases that result from the invasion of a tumor into bone. The solid mass which forms inside the bone is often associated with a constant dull ache and severe spikes in pain, which greatly reduce the quality of life of the patient. Numerous (99m)Tc-labeled bisphosphonate functionalised complexes are well established tracers for bone metastases imaging. The objective of this research was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics and behaviour of three DOTA based bisphosphonate functionalised ligands (BPAMD, BPAPD and BPPED), using both (68)Ga μ-PET in vivo imaging and ex vivo biodistribution studies in healthy Wistar rats. The compounds were labelled with …

Isostructural Potassium and Thallium Salts of Sterically Crowded Thio‐ and Selenophenols: A Structural and Computational Study

2008

Because of their similar cationic radii, potassium and thallium(I) compounds are usually regarded as closely related. Homologous molecular species containing either K+ or Tl+ are very rare, however. We have synthesized potassium and thallium salts MEAr* [M, E = K, S (2a); K, Se (2b); Tl, S (3a); Tl, Se (3b); Ar* = 2,6-Trip2C6H3, Trip = 2,4,6-iPr3C6H2] derived from terphenyl-substituted thio- and selenophenols. In the solid-state structures of dimeric 2a, 2b, 3a, and 3b additional metal-ηn–π-arene interactions to the flanking arms of the terphenyl substituents of different hapticity n are observed. Remarkably, the homologous potassium and thallium complexes 2b and 3b crystallize in isomorpho…

Gallium doped SiO2: Towards a new luminescent material

2007

We show how the interaction between Ga atoms and silica samples in a hot environment gives rise to permanent inclusions of Ga inside the silica matrix which, in turn, produce typical luminescence features. The Ga doped silica is analyzed via laser induced fluorescence, photoluminescence and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopies. The results evidence the presence of modifications induced by the Ga inclusions inside the silica matrix and some preliminary hypothesis on their nature are advanced. Possible applications of such Ga doped silica are also mentioned.

Different strategies towards the deterministic coupling of a single Quantum Dot to a photonic crystal cavity mode

2011

In this work we show two different procedures of fabrication aiming towards the systematic positioning of single InAs quantum dots (QDs) coupled to a GaAs photonic crystal (PC) microcavity. The two approaches are based on the molecular beam epitaxial (MBE) growth of site-controlled QDs (SCQDs) on pre-patterned structures. The PC microcavity (PCM) is introduced previous or after the growth, on each case. We demonstrate the InAs SCQD nucleation on pre-patterned PCMs and a method to perform the QD nucleation respect to an etched ruler that is used to position the PC structure after growth. For both types of structures, we have carried out microphotoluminescence (µPL) spectroscopy experiments a…

Sedimentological implications of an unusual form of the trace fossil Rhizocorallium from the Lower Muschelkalk (Middle Triassic), S. Poland

2011

Specimens of the trace fossil Rhizocorallium isp. with retrusive limbs occur in 10–20-cm-thick composite beds: the bottom layers contain abundant Planolites and Thalassinoides trace fossils, and the top layers are built of horizontally bedded pelitic limestone and contain less bioturbational structures. The first specimens of Rhizocorallium isp. occur just 2–3 cm above the lower surfaces of the top layers. The horizontal protrusive sections are 1 cm high and 1 cm wide. At some sites, the horizontal tunnels end, and the limbs become first obliquely retrusive (45°) at a distance of 1.5–2.5 cm, and then vertically retrusive at a distance of 4–6 cm, or at once vertically retrusive at a similar …

Surface passivation of gallium selenide by nitrogen implantation

2002

In this paper we report on the characterization of nitrogen-implanted single-crystal GaSe samples. Nitrogen atoms were implanted at 80 keV, with doses ranging from 4 × 10 13 to 10 15 N + ions cm -2 . Next, samples were aged in open air and characterized by small-area XPS, together with an unimplanted clean surface, in order to quantify the effects of the nitrogen implantation. In general, we found that the oxidation was fully prevented in N + -implanted samples.

Evolution of Pallial Areas and Networks Involved in Sociality: Comparison Between Mammals and Sauropsids

2019

Birds are extremely interesting animals for studying the neurobiological basis of cognition and its evolution. They include species that are highly social and show high cognitive capabilities. Moreover, birds rely more on visual and auditory cues than on olfaction for social behavior and cognition, just like primates. In primates, there are two major brain networks associated to sociality: (1) one related to perception and decision-making, involving the pallial amygdala (with the basolateral complex as a major component), the temporal and temporoparietal neocortex, and the orbitofrontal cortex; (2) another one related to affiliation, including the medial extended amygdala, the ventromedial …

Interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and chiral magnetic textures in a ferrimagnetic insulator

2019

The interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) in multilayers of heavy metal and ferromagnetic metals enables the stabilization of novel chiral spin structures such as skyrmions. Magnetic insulators, on the other hand can exhibit enhanced dynamics and properties such as lower magnetic damping and therefore it is of interest to combine the properties enabled by interfacial DMI with insulating systems. Here, we demonstrate the presence of interfacial DMI in heterostructures that include insulating magnetic layers. We use a bilayer of perpendicularly magnetized insulating thulium iron garnet (TmIG) and the heavy metal platinum, and find a surprisingly strong interfacial DMI that, comb…
