Achilles sub-tendons are materially and geometrically challenging structures that can nearly undergo around 15% elongation from their pre-twisted initial states during physical activities. Sub-tendons' cross-sectional shapes are subject-specific, varying from simple to complicated. Shape optimization for Stokes problem with threshold slip boundary conditions

This paper deals with shape optimization of systems governed by the Stokes flow with threshold slip boundary conditions. The stability of solutions to the state problem with respect to a class of domains is studied. For computational purposes the slip term and impermeability condition are handled by a regularization. To get a finite dimensional optimization problem, the optimized part of the boundary is described by B´ezier polynomials. Numerical examples illustrate the computational efficiency. peerReviewed
Cognitive predictors of counting skills

Rote counting skills have found to be a strong predictor of later arithmetic and reading fluency. However, knowledge of the underlying cognitive factors influencing counting skill is very limited. Present study examined to what extent language skills (phonology, vocabulary, and morphology), nonverbal reasoning skills, and memory at the age of five could explain counting skill at the beginning of first grade. Patrones de participación y logro en un MOOC de Saberes Digitales para Docentes en servicio de México

En este artículo se investigaron los patrones de participación y logro de más de 8000 participantes en un MOOC de Saberes Digitales para Docentes mediante estadística descriptiva y análisis de conglomerados en función de edad, género y nivel educativo. Los resultados indican que los participantes de mayor edad y nivel educativo obtuvieron mejores niveles de logro y participaron más en el foro de discusión. No se encontraron diferencias significativas entre género. La participación global siguió un modelo de embudo en donde existe un decremento notable de la participación a partir de la primera actividad para estabilizarse a partir de la quinta.
