Entanglement entropy in a periodically driven quantum Ising chain

2016

We numerically study the dynamics of entanglement entropy, induced by an oscillating time periodic driving of the transverse field, h(t), of a one-dimensional quantum Ising chain. We consider several realizations of h(t), and we find a number of results in analogy with entanglement entropy dynamics induced by a sudden quantum quench. After short-time relaxation, the dynamics of entanglement entropy synchronises with h(t), displaying an oscillatory behaviour at the frequency of the driving. Synchronisation in the dynamics of entanglement entropy, is spoiled by the appearance of quasi-revivals which fade out in the thermodynamic limit, and which we interpret using a quasi-particle picture ada…

Impact of the erase algorithms on flash memory lifetime

2017

This paper presents a comparative study on the impact of the erase algorithm on flash memory lifetime, to demonstrate how the reduction of overall stress, suffered by memories, will increase their lifetime, thanks to a smart management of erase operations. To this purpose a fixed erase voltage, equal to the maximum value and the maximum time-window, was taken as the reference test; while an algorithm with adaptive voltage levels and the same overall time-window was designed and implemented in order to compare their experimental results. This study was carried out by using an innovative Automated Test Equipment, named Portable-ATE, tailored for Memory Test Chip and designed for performance e…

Piecewise Affine (PWA) Modeling and Switched Damping Control of Two-Inertia Systems with Backlash

2018

Backlash degrades positioning accuracy and can induce mechanical wear and breakage by collisions. Therefore, a lot of studies have been conducted on backlash compensation. The simplest control method for the impact attenuation is torsional damping addition by feedback of torsional velocity. This paper reveals the advantages and disadvantages of the torsional damping addition. Based on the analyses, a novel switched damping control is proposed to realize the responses with smaller overshoot while attenuating the impact. The mechanical system and the proposed controller are described as piecewise affine systems for analyses. The performance of the proposed method is compared with a linear dam…

2020

Time-resolved photoemission with ultrafast pump and probe pulses is an emerging technique with wide application potential. Real-time recording of nonequilibrium electronic processes, transient states in chemical reactions, or the interplay of electronic and structural dynamics offers fascinating opportunities for future research. Combining valence-band and core-level spectroscopy with photoelectron diffraction for electronic, chemical, and structural analyses requires few 10 fs soft X-ray pulses with some 10 meV spectral resolution, which are currently available at high repetition rate free-electron lasers. We have constructed and optimized a versatile setup commissioned at FLASH/PG2 that c…

Mixed-Mode Operation of Hybrid Phase-Change Nanophotonic Circuits

2016

Phase change materials (PCMs) are highly attractive for nonvolatile electrical and all-optical memory applications because of unique features such as ultrafast and reversible phase transitions, long-term endurance, and high scalability to nanoscale dimensions. Understanding their transient characteristics upon phase transition in both the electrical and the optical domains is essential for using PCMs in future multifunctional optoelectronic circuits. Here, we use a PCM nanowire embedded into a nanophotonic circuit to study switching dynamics in mixed-mode operation. Evanescent coupling between light traveling along waveguides and a phase-change nanowire enables reversible phase transition b…

Silicon dosimeters based on Floating Gate Sensor: design, implementation and characterization

2020

A rad-hard monolithic dosimeter has been implemented and characterized in a standard 180 nm CMOS technology. The radiation sensor (C-sensor) is based on a Floating Gate (FG) MOS discharge principle. The output current is processed by a current-to-voltage (I/V) interface and then converted by a 5-bit flash ADC. The dosimeter is re-usable (FG can be recharged) and can detect a dose up to 1krad (Si) with a resolution of 30rad (Si) typical over temperature 0 to 85°C range. The ADC allows easy further signal processing for calibration and averaging, etc. The power consumption of C-sensor plus I/V interface is < 2mW from a 5 V power supply. The overall layout area is less than 0.25mm2. The Rad…

First copper(I) ferrocenyltetraphosphine complexes: possible involvement in Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction ?

2008

Preparation and characterization of the first examples of copper(I) ferrocenylpolyphosphine complexes are reported. The molecular structure of complex {P,P′,P′′-[1,1′,2,2′-tetrakis(diphenylphosphino)-4,4′-di-tert-butylferrocene]iodocopper(I)} (1) was solved by X-ray diffraction studies, and its fluxional behavior in solution was investigated by VT-31P NMR; both revealed a net triligated coordination preference of the ferrocenyl tetraphosphine Fc(P)4tBu with copper. The tetradentate ligand is an active auxiliary in Sonogashira alkynylation; therefore the general question of copper as a competitive coordination partner in the Pd/Cu-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction was raised and discussed. Elec…

Regioselective Bromination and Functionalization of Dibenzo[hi,st]ovalene as Highly Luminescent Nanographene with Zigzag Edges.

2019

Dibenzo[hi,st]ovalene (DBOV) is a nanographene with a combination of zigzag and armchair edges, consisting of 38 sp2 carbons. Excellent optical properties with strong red emission have been demonstrated. Here we report the regioselective bromination of DBOV bearing two mesityl groups (DBOV-Mes) by treatment with N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) under mild conditions. The dibrominated DBOV was further subjected to transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, that is, Suzuki and Sonogashira coupling, demonstrating the edge-decoration of DBOV with different functional groups. Notably, DBOVs arylated at the bay regions showed intense red emission and enhanced fluorescence quantum yields of up t…
