Integrative proteomics: functional and molecular characterization of a particular glutamate-related neuregulin isoform.

Glutamate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain and is related to memory by calcium-conducting receptors. Neuregulins have emerged as long-term modulating molecules of synaptic signaling by glutamate receptors, playing a role in some cognition/memory-related disorders and moreover being part of transient functional microdomains, called lipid rafts. Here we characterize one specific isoform of neuregulin as a central biomarker for glutamate-related signaling, integrating results from in vitro and in vivo models by a differential functional and proteomic approach.

Calcifying zooplankton standing stocks and in the North Pacific from the R/V Kilo Moana cruise KM1712

This dataset compiles the standing stocks (ind/m³), the integrated standing stocks (ind/m²) and the integrated CaCO3 standing stocks (mg/m²) for three groups of zooplanktonic calcifying organisms: pteropods, heteropods and foraminifers. The organisms were collected by oblique towing (Ø 0.5 m, 90 μm mesh size, SeaGear mechanical flowmeter) in the North Pacific between Hawaii and the Gulf of Alaska during the R/V Kilo Moana cruise KM1712 in August 2017. Relaxant and antiadrenergic effects of ranolazine in human saphenous vein.

Abstract OBJECTIVES Ranolazine improves vascular function in animal models. We evaluate the effects of ranolazine on vascular function and adrenergic response in human saphenous vein. METHODS Rings from 53 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting were mounted in organ baths. Concentration–response curves to ranolazine were constructed in rings precontracted with phenylephrine, endothelin-1, vasopressin, KCl and the thromboxane A2 analogue U-46619. A New Monte Carlo Method for the Titration of Molecules and Minerals

The charge state of molecules and solid/liquid interfaces is of paramount importance in the understanding of the reactivity and the physico-chemical properties of many systems. In this work, we porpose a new Monte Carlo method in the grand canonical ensemble using the primitive model, which allows us to simulate the titration behavior of macromolecules or solids at constant pH. The method is applied to the charging process of colloidal silica particles dispersed in a sodium salt solution for various concentrations and calcium silicate hydrate nano-particles in a calcium hydroxide solution. An excellent agreement is found between the experimental and simulated results.

The effects of quinidine on electrical and mechanical activity were investigated in atrial and/or ventricular heart muscle preparations from guinea pigs and cats. Quinidine (1--100 micrometer) exerted negative inotropic effects in papillary muscles from guinea pigs and cats. In guinea-pig left atria, a positive inotropic effect was superimposed on the negative inotropic effect in response to quinidine. Quinidine (100 micrometer) prolonged the duration of the action potential in guinea-pig atria but shortened it in guinea-pig ventricular muscle. Mechanisms of interference of p-diphenols with the Trinder reaction

p-Diphenols, such as homogentisic acid, gentisic acid, etamsylate, and calcium dobesilate, interfere with diagnostic tests utilizing the Trinder reaction but the mechanisms of these effects are not fully understood. We observed substantial differences both in oxidation of p-diphenols by horseradish peroxidase and their influence on oxidation of 4-aminoantipyrine and various phenolic substrates. Homogentisic acid was rapidly oxidized by the enzyme and completely blocked chromophore formation. A new polyphosphate calcium material with morphogenetic activity

Abstract Polyphosphate [polyP] has been proven to elicit morphogenetic activity on bone cells. By applying mild reaction conditions, a Ca-polyP material that displays a hardness of ≈1.3 GPa has been fabricated. The Ca-polyP granules are prone to hydrolytic degradation during in vitro incubation of the cells, suggesting that this property is associated with the observed bioactivity.
