Wilt and Collapse of Cuphea ignea Caused by Phytophthora tropicalis in Italy.

2006

The genus Cuphea (Lythraceae) includes approximately 250 species of annual, evergreen perennials and short shrubs native to Central and South America. During the springs of 2003 and 2004, 10% of the nursery stock of approximately 12,000 potted cigar-flowers (C. ignea A. DC) grown in a screenhouse at a commercial ornamental nursery near Piedimonte Etneo, Sicily, had symptoms of wilt, defoliation, and rapid collapse of the entire plant. These foliar symptoms were associated with a reduced root system, browning of the collar, and dark brown discolored roots. A Phytophthora species was consistently recovered by plating small pieces of rotted roots of symptomatic plants onto selective medium (3…

Titanium complexes for the formation of nitrogen compounds : synthesis of homoallylamines and amidines

2011

Homoallylic amines are key reagents for the formation of a large number of biologically interesting products. Due to the double bond of their allylic moiety, easily functionalisable, they are commonly used in organic synthesis. This research work deals with the synthesis of homoallylic amines thanks to titanium complexes. In fact, the reductive coupling between of imines and dienes promoted by titanium allows the formation of diastereoisomeric homoallylamines syn and anti. The diastereoselectivity of the reaction is directly affected by the nitrogen substituent. Whether it is benzyl or phenyl, the selectivity will be in favour of syn or anti respectively. Moreover, the addition of a the Lew…

Influence of SiO2 nanoparticles on relative fluorescence of plant cells

2015

Nanoparticles (nano-scale particles (NSPs)) are defined as particles with dimensions less than 100 nm. SiO2 nanoparticles are one of the most widely common nanoparticles in the environment, particularly in urban areas. The sources of SiO2 nanoparticles are very different, including natural nanoparticles, anthropogenic and engineered nanoparticles. The SiO2 nanoparticles could be considered a source of different pollution effects on leaving organisms. Nevertheless, knowledge of the mechanisms, through which the SiO2 nanoparticles affect cells, is incomplete. The aim of the research was to elaborate a …

Triterpene Saponins from Cyclamen persicum

2010

A new triterpene saponin 3- O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-16α-hydroxy-13β,28-epoxy-oleanan-30-al (1), along with four known triterpene glycosides (2-5) were isolated from Cyclamen persicum. Their structures were characterized by a combination of 1D- and 2D-NMR (1H-1H COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, and HMBC) and MS spectrocopic data. The cytotoxicity of compounds 2 and 4 was evaluated using two human colon cancer cell lines HT-29 and HCT 116.

Fusarium wilt of cyclamen : early detection and biocontrol

2016

Fusarium wilt of cyclamen is one of the most damaging diseases of cyclamen. The causal agent, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cyclaminis, is a soil-borne fungus. Losses can reach more than 50 % of the production. Several methods of control are available, but none of them offer an efficient and environmentally friendly solution. In this context, a project was developed in collaboration with the French institute of horticulture, Astredhor, which represents the producers, the INRA of Dijon, for its expertise on F. oxysporum and the company Agrene for its expertise in biological control. The project has two goals: i) design a molecular marker specific of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cyclaminis allowing …

Triterpene Saponins from Cyclamen trocopteranthum

2010

Two new triterpene saponins ( 1- 2) together with three known saponins, deglucocyclamin I ( 3), cyclamin ( 4), and mirabilin ( 5), were isolated from the tubers of Cyclamen trocopteranthum. They were elucidated as 3 beta- O-{4- O-[3-hydroxyl-3-methylglutaryl]- beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)- beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 4)-[ beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)]- alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl}-16 alpha-hydroxy-13 beta,28-epoxy-oleanan-30-al ( 1) and 3 beta- O-{4- O-[3-hydroxyl-3-methylglutaryl]- beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)-[ beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 6)]- beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 4)-[ beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)]- alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl}-16 alpha-hydroxy-20,30-lactone-olean-12-ene ( 2…

Etude des propriétés de coordination de nouveaux ligands macrocycliques vis-à-vis de cations métalliques en vue de l'utilisation de leurs complexes p…

2011

Noninvasive medical imaging techniques such as single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) or positron emission tomography (PET), are valuable tools for the development and validation of new therapeutic molecules. That approach requires the conjugation of a radioactive source emitting either y-rays or positrons with a biological tracer (e.g. DOTATOC). Among the potentially useful radionuclides available, 111In3+ (SPECT), 64Cu2+, and 68Ga3+ (PET) have attracted increasing attention over the last years for medical applications. To minimize the in vivo release of the radioactive cation by transmetalation or transchelation with biological ligands, it is essential to trap selectively the …

First report of Phytophthora palmivora on Coronilla valentina subsp. glauca in Italy

2019

The genus Coronilla L. (family Fabaceae), which includes several species native to central and southern Europe, such as C. varia L. (axseed or crown-vetch), C. emerus (scorpion senna), and C. valentina L., is used in Italy as a landscape shrub or potted ornamental plant. During the summer of 2001, 80% of approximately 10,000 1-year-old plants of C. valentina subsp. glauca (L.) Batt. used to landscape an industrial area in the Caltanissetta Province (Sicily) showed symptoms of dieback associated with basal stem and root rot. Plants had been transplanted from pots in April and watered using a trickle irrigation system. A species of Phytophthora was isolated consistently from rotted roots and…
