Improved stability of black silicon detectors using aluminum oxide surface passivation

2021

Publisher Copyright: © 2021 ESA and CNES We have studied how high-energy electron irradiation (12 MeV, total dose 66 krad(Si)) and long term humidity exposure (75%, 75 °C, 500 hours) influence the induced junction black silicon or planar photodiode characteristics. In our case, the induced junction is formed using n-type silicon and atomic-layer deposited aluminum oxide (Al2O3), which contains a large negative fixed charge. We compare the results with corresponding planar pn-junction detectors passivated with either with silicon dioxide (SiO2) or Al2O3. The results show that the induced junction detectors remain stable as their responsivity remains nearly unaffected during the electron beam…

Self-assembled hierarchical nanostructured perovskites enable highly efficient LEDs via an energy cascade

2018

Metal halide perovskites have established themselves as extraordinary optoelectronic materials, exhibiting promise for applications in large area illumination and displays. However, low luminescence, low efficiencies of the light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and complex preparation methods currently limit further progress towards applications. Here, we report on a new and unique mesoscopic film architecture featuring the self-assembly of 3D formamidinium lead bromide (FAPbBr3) nanocrystals of graded size, coupled with microplatelets of octylammonium lead bromide perovskites that enables an energy cascade, yielding very high-performance light-emitting diodes with emission in the green spectral re…

Single step deposition of an interacting layer of a perovskite matrix with embedded quantum dots

2016

Hybrid lead halide perovskite (PS) derivatives have emerged as very promising materials for the development of optoelectronic devices in the last few years. At the same time, inorganic nanocrystals with quantum confinement (QDs) possess unique properties that make them suitable materials for the development of photovoltaics, imaging and lighting applications, among others. In this work, we report on a new methodology for the deposition of high quality, large grain size and pinhole free PS films (CH3NH3PbI3) with embedded PbS and PbS/CdS core/shell Quantum Dots (QDs). The strong interaction between both semiconductors is revealed by the formation of an exciplex state, which is monitored by p…

Ce:Y3Al5O12−Poly(methyl methacrylate) Composite for White-Light-Emitting Diodes

2014

A Ce:YAG-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) composite was prepared by using the melt compounding method. The structure and morphology were investigated by X-ray diffractometry, transmission electron microscopy, and small-angle X-ray scattering. The optical properties (emission, excitation, and fluorescence decay rate) of the composite were studied by using photoluminescence spectroscopy. The polymer–filler interactions were studied using 13C cross-polarization magic-angle spinning NMR spectroscopy (13C{1H} CP-MAS NMR). The results indicated that Ce:YAG particles are well-dispersed in the PMMA matrix without loss of their luminescence properties or significant spectral shift, thus suggesting t…

Degradation mechanisms in organic lead halide perovskite light-emitting diodes

2019

Organic–inorganic metal halide perovskites have attracted significant attention for low-cost, high-efficiency, color-pure light-emitting applications. However, as seen in many reports so-far, perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLED) suffer from poor operational lifetime, limiting their practical use. The underlying degradation mechanism is a topic of crucial importance. Here, the degradation mechanisms of methylammonium lead bromide based PeLED are investigated. When the PeLED is electrically biased, there is an initial raise in the luminance followed by a rapid reduction in luminance and current density. Microscopic studies reveal the formation of micrometer-sized spots that are photolumin…

High Photoluminescence Quantum Yields in Organic Semiconductor-Perovskite Composite Thin Films.

2017

One of the obstacles towards efficient radiative recombination in hybrid perovskites is a low exciton binding energy, typically in the orders of tens of meV. It has been shown that the use of electron-donor additives can lead to a substantial reduction of the non-radiative recombination in perovskite films. Herein, the approach using small molecules with semiconducting properties, which are candidates to be implemented in future optoelectronic devices, is presented. In particular, highly luminescent perovskite-organic semiconductor composite thin films have been developed, which can be processed from solution in a simple coating step. By tuning the relative concentration of methylammonium l…

Origin of enhanced efficiency and stability in diblock copolymer-grafted Cd-free quantum dot-based light-emitting diodes

2021

The efficiency and operational lifetime of quantum dot (QD) based light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) are essentially affected by the electron–hole charge balance. Although various methods have been reported to improve the charge balance, these methods cause issues at the same time, such as increasing a driving voltage and complicating a device structure. In this work, we introduce hybrid InP/ZnSeS/ZnS QDs, in which the oleic acid ligands are substituted with semiconducting diblock copolymer units possessing hole-transporting carbazole groups, to facilitate hole injection and to reduce electron leakage. As a result, the efficiency and the operational lifetime were improved by 1.4-fold and 4-fold,…

2015

Two novel charged organic thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters, 1 and 2, have been synthesized. Their TADF behavior is well-supported by the multiexponential decay of their emission (nanosecond and microsecond components) and the oxygen dependence of the photoluminescence quantum yields. Spin-coated electroluminescent devices have been fabricated to make light-emitting electrochemical cells (LEECs) and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The first example of a non-doped charged small organic molecule LEEC is reported and exhibited an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 0.39% using 2. With a multilayer architecture, a solution-processed OLED device using neat 2 as the…

Microcavity Light Emitting Diodes Based on GaN membranes Grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy on Silicon

2003

Resonant-cavity InGaN/GaN quantum well light emitting diodes have been fabricated. Nitride layers were grown by molecular beam epitaxy on Si (111). We fabricated the structures using a combination of Si substrate etching, GaN etching and dielectric (Ta2O5/SiO2) mirror deposition. The electroluminescence spectra show that the emission within the distributed Bragg reflector stop band is enhanced in the membrane microcavity. The cavity modes are broadened by some cavity length non-uniformity that is introduced when the GaN is back etched to adjust the cavity length. This process does not need any transfer on an intermediate host substrate and is fully compatible with large area semiconductor p…
