Self-Immolative Linkers as Caps for the Design of Gated Silica Mesoporous Supports
2016
A new hybrid material based on sulforhodamine-B dye-loaded silica mesoporous nanoparticles capped with a self-immolative gate has been synthesized and characterized. The gated material's controlled release behavior is monitored under different pH conditions. Under acidic and neutral conditions, a low level of dye release is detected. However, at slightly basic pH, significant dye release occurs owing to deprotonation of the phenol moiety in the capping molecule, which results in its disassembly.
Control of freshwater fish louse Argulus coregoni: a step towards an integrated management strategy
2008
Harmful infections by ectoparasites of the genus Argulus occur repeatedly in freshwa- ter fish farming operations where the management has largely been ineffective. Preventative meth- ods and regular monitoring are rarely applied, so that chemical interventions become necessary. According to the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, a sustainable management or control program for a parasite should be based on knowledge of the ecology of the parasite along with adop- tion of several prevention and control methods, the application of which is dependent upon the pre- vailing infection level. The application of multiple management tactics is especially important because parasites can devel…
Fluorescent organometallic rhodium(I) and ruthenium(II) metallodrugs with 4-ethylthio-1,8-naphthalimide ligands: Antiproliferative effects, cellular …
2018
Fluorescent 4-ethylthio-1,8-naphthalimides containing rhodium(I) N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) and ruthenium (II) NHC fragments were synthesised and evaluated for their antiproliferative effects, cellular uptake and DNA-binding activity. Both types of organometallics triggered ligand dependent efficient cytotoxic effects against tumor cells with the rhodium(I) NHC derivatives causing stronger effects than the ruthenium (II) NHC analogues. Antiproliferative effects could also be observed against several pathogenic Gram-positive bacterial strains, whereas the growth of Gram-negative bacteria was not substantially affected. Cellular uptake was confirmed by atomic absorption spectroscopy as well…
Septal complex of the telencephalon of lizards: III. Efferent connections and general discussion.
1998
The projections of the septum of the lizard Podarcis hispanica (Lacertidae) were studied by combining retrograde and anterograde neuroanatomical tracing. The results confirm the classification of septal nuclei into three main divisions. The nuclei composing the central septal division (anterior, lateral, medial, dorsolateral, and ventrolateral nuclei) displayed differential projections to the basal telencephalon, preoptic and anterior hypothalamus, lateral hypothalamic area, dorsal hypothalamus, mammillary complex, dorsomedial anterior thalamus, ventral tegmental area, interpeduncular nucleus, raphe nucleus, torus semicircularis pars laminaris, reptilian A8 nucleus/ substantia nigra and cen…
Self strengthening, Load Bearing Ionic Liquid Gels for Environmental Remediation
Ion pair recognition receptor based on an unsymmetrically 1,1'-disubstituted ferrocene-triazole derivative.
2012
The ferrocene-triazole derivative 4, available from 1,1'-bis(diazido)ferrocene by sequential functionalization through click-type chemistry and the Staudinger reaction, is elaborated as a lab-on-a-molecule for the selective sensing of HP(2)O(7)(3-) and Hg(2+). Receptor 4 behaves as a ratiometric fluorescent probe for HP(2)O(7)(3-) with a good selectivity over other anions, whereas in the presence of Hg(2+) it modifies the fluorescent emission of the pyrene unit, acting as a selective on-off fluorescent sensor for Hg(2+) with a low detection limit. The most salient feature of compound 4 is its behavior as an excellent electrooptical ion pair recognition receptor able to simultaneously recogn…

Inhibition of lactate export by quercetin acidifies rat glial cells in vitro
1997
The relationship between glial lactate release and glial intracellular pH (pH i) regulation is studied using C6 glioma cells and rat astrocytes in vitro, and the lactate transport inhibitors quercetin and a-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamate (CHC). pHi is measured using 2′,7′bis(carboxyethyl)-5,6-carboxyfluorescein (BCECF). The results show that lactate release is mediated partly by a specific lactate transport system inhibitable by quercetin (50 mM), but not by CHC (5 mM). Inhibition by quercetin results in a significant 3‐4-fold increase of intracellular lactate and a decrease of intracellular pH to 6.9. A participation of quercetin-inhibitable lactate transport in glial pHi-regulation is suggested…
Lanthanide complexes as imaging agents anchored on nano-sized particles of boehmite
2011
International audience; The synthesis of boehmite nanoparticles modified with lanthanides (Eu, Tb and Gd) is described. Their synthesis, characterization and in vitro assays with HeLa cells were performed. The nuclear magnetic relaxation dispersion (NMRD) profiles of the two chelating moieties were studied. Imaging data from laser scanning confocal fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry revealed that the nanoscaffolds were taken up by the cells, distributed throughout the cytoplasm and showed no toxicity. This platform could represent an alternative to silica-based inert matrices as imaging vehicles.

2015
In this paper, we measure the main photoelectrical parameters of Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) based on ruthenium complexes at different irradiance levels, incident wavelengths, temperatures and hours of light soaking
