On the self-heating behavior of upgraded biochar pellets blended with pyrolysis oil: Effects of process parameters

2020

Abstract Biochar obtained from biomass pyrolysis is a promising carbon neutral material which can be used in substitution of fossil coal and coke in metallurgical applications. Biochar’s mechanical properties improve significantly without compromising reactivity, when upgraded by densification with pyrolysis oil and reheated. However, upgraded biochar pellets use in the industry is limited due to the risks associated with self-heating. This issue must be seriously considered for further industrial production of upgraded biochar pellets. Self-heating oven tests are generally time-consuming and limit the possibility of testing various potential solutions. The aim of this work was both to inve…

Early Response to treatment in Eating Disorders: A Systematic Review and a Diagnostic Test Accuracy Meta-Analysis

2016

Objective: Early response to eating disorders treatment is thought to predict a later favourable outcome. A systematic review of the literature and meta-analyses examined the robustness of this concept. Method: The criteria used across studies to define early response were summarised following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Diagnostic Test Accuracy methodology was used to estimate the size of the effect. Results: Findings from 24 studies were synthesized and data from 14 studies were included in the meta-analysis. In Anorexia Nervosa, the odds ratio of early response predicting remission was 4.85(95%CI: 2.94–8.01) and the summary Area Unde…

Modelling of combined ICRF and NBI heating in JET hybrid plasmas

2017

During the 2015-2016 JET campaigns many efforts have been devoted to the exploration of high performance plasma scenarios envisaged for ITER operation. In this paper we model the combined ICRF+NBI heating in selected key hybrid discharges using PION. The antenna frequency was tuned to match the cyclotron frequency of minority hydrogen (H) at the center of the tokamak coinciding with the second harmonic cyclotron resonance of deuterium. The modelling takes into account the synergy between ICRF and NBI heating through the second harmonic cyclotron resonance of deuterium beam ions which allows us to assess its impact on the neutron rate RNT. We evaluate the influence of H concentration which w…

The Role of Combined ICRF and NBI Heating in JET Hybrid Plasmas in Quest for High D-T Fusion Yield

2017

Combined ICRF and NBI heating played a key role in achieving the world-record fusion yield in the first deuterium-tritium campaign at the JET tokamak in 1997. The current plans for JET include new experiments with deuterium-tritium (D-T) plasmas with more ITER-like conditions given the recently installed ITER-like wall (ILW). In the 2015-2016 campaigns, significant efforts have been devoted to the development of high-performance plasma scenarios compatible with ILW in preparation of the forthcoming D-T campaign. Good progress was made in both the inductive (baseline) and the hybrid scenario: a new record JET ILW fusion yield with a significantly extended duration of the high-performance pha…

Review on the toxicity, occurrence, metabolism, detoxification, regulations and intake of zearalenone: An oestrogenic mycotoxin

2005

Zearalenone (ZEA) is a mycotoxin produced mainly by fungi belonging to the genus Fusarium in foods and feeds. It is frequently implicated in reproductive disorders of farm animals and occasionally in hyperoestrogenic syndromes in humans. There is evidence that ZEA and its metabolites possess oestrogenic activity in pigs, cattle and sheep. However, ZEA is of a relatively low acute toxicity after oral or interperitoneal administration in mice, rat and pig. The biotransformation for ZEA in animals involves the formation of two metabolites alpha-zearalenol (alpha-ZEA) and beta-zearalenol (beta-ZEA) which are subsequently conjugated with glucuronic acid. Moreover, ZEA has also been shown to be h…

Methylation as an effective way to generate SOD-activity in copper complexes of scorpiand-like azamacrocyclic receptors

2018

Abstract Methylation of the secondary amine groups of a scorpiand-type ligand consisting of a pyridine spacer connected through methylene groups to a tris(2-aminomethyl) unit with the pendant arm further functionalised with a 3-pyridine unit leads to a ligand whose Cu(II) complex exhibits threefold enhanced SOD activity with respect to the non-methylated ligand. Potentiometric studies indicate the formation of [CuL] 2+ species with a stability three orders of magnitude lower than that formed with the related non-methylated ligand. Kinetic studies indicate that methylation of the secondary nitrogens causes a deceleration of both the complex formation and the acid-induced dissociation of the …

Efficient two-step synthesis of water soluble BODIPY–TREN chemosensors for copper(II) ions

2017

Two simple fluorescent sensors for Cu(II) ions were synthesized in two reaction steps, using recently developed C–H functionalization reactions for boron dipyrrins, starting from a standard 8-aryl-BODIPY dye and a tris(2-aminoethyl)amine (TREN) ligand. At pH 5, the resulting BODIPY–TREN conjugates are demonstrated to be promising, highly selective, water soluble, Cu(II) sensors that can permeate the cell membrane. crosscheck: This document is CrossCheck deposited related_data: Supplementary Information identifier: Bram Verbelen (ORCID) identifier: Wim Dehaen (ORCID) copyright_licence: The Royal Society of Chemistry has an exclusive publication licence for this journal copyright_licence: Thi…

Insights of Tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine as anti-tumor agent for osteosarcoma: experimental and in silico studies

2021

Abstract Osteosarcoma (OS) is a malignant bone tumor and its occurrence is associated with high levels of microRNAs (miRNAs) and critical protein sinvolved on intracellular signaling pathways. Cisplatin and Doxorubicin are employed on chemotherapy, but their use cause side effects and contributes to multidrug resistance. Since several tripodal amines have been studied as anticancer agents, tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (TPA) was investigated against osteosarcoma cells. Here we show that TPA exhibits activity against MG-63 and Saos-2 cells. Cyclic voltammetry results indicate an interaction between TPA and dsDNA, denoted by blocking of the proton-assisted reduction of the 2-pyridylmethyl moiety…

Alkoxo, chlorido, and methyl derivatives of oxidomolybdenum(VI) complexes with tetradentate [O3N]-type ligands

2007

Dioxomolybdenum(VI) complex [MoO 2 (Heg) 2 ] (H 2 eg = 1,2-ethanediol) reacts with phenolic ligand precursors tris(2-hydroxy-3,5-dimethylbenzyl)amine (H 3 L Me ) and tris(2-hydroxy-3,5-di- tert -butylbenzyl)amine (H 3 L t Bu ) to form oxomolybdenum(VI) complexes of type [MoO(L R ) (Heg)]. The Heg ligand can be replaced by other alcohols (i.e. 2-aminoethanol, 2-amino-2-methylpropan-1-ol, 2-(dimethylamino)ethanol or allyl alcohol) in the reaction at refluxing toluene or at neat alcohol. Treatment of [MoO(L R )(Heg)] with Me 3 SiCl yields corresponding chlorido complexes [MoO(L R )Cl]. These are also formed in the reaction of H 3 L R with [MoO 2 Cl 2 (dmf) 2 ]. The reaction of [MoO(L R )Cl] wi…

Entzündungshemmende Wirkstoffe, 10. Mitt.1). 1-(4-Chlorphenyl)-2-pyrazolin-5-on-Derivate

1986

Aus der durch s-Triazin (1) initiierten Aminomethinylierung des 1-(4-Chlorphenyl)-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ons (2) geht das 4-Aminomethylen-1(4-chlorphenyl)-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-on (4) hervor, das einerseits zur C-Rubazonsaure 5, andererseits in Gegenwart sekundarer Amine 6 zu den Dehydro-C-Mannich-Basen 7 weiterreagieren kann. Antiinflammatory Agents, X: 1-(4-Chlorophenyl)-2-pyrazolin-5-one Derivatives Aminomethynylation of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one (2) initiated by s-triazine (1) yields 4-aminomethylene-1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one (4). This, in turn, may form the C-rubazonic acid 5 or, in the presence of secondary amines 6, the dehydro-C-Mannich bases…
