Phase Equilibria in the Systems 2-Methyl-2-propanol + Methyl 1,1-Dimethylpropyl Ether and 2-Methylpentane + 2-Methyl-2-propanol + Methyl 1,1-Dimethyl…
1999
Consistent vapor−liquid equilibrium data for the binary and ternary systems 2-methyl-2-propanol (TBA) + methyl 1,1-dimethylpropyl ether (TAME) at temperatures from 353 to 359 K and 2-methylpentane + 2-methyl-2-propanol (TBA) + methyl 1,1-dimethylpropyl ether (TAME) from 332 to 353 K are reported at 101.3 kPa. The results indicate that the systems deviate positively from ideality and that only the binary system presents an azeotrope. The ternary system is well predicted from binary data. The activity coefficients and boiling points of the solutions were correlated with composition by Wilson, UNIQUAC, NRTL, and Wisniak−Tamir equations.
Densities, refractive indices, and derived excess properties of tert-butyl alcohol, methyl tert-butyl ether and 2-methylpentane binary and ternary sy…
2000
Abstract This paper reports experimental densities and refractive indices of the binary systems tert-butyl alcohol (TBA)+methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), TBA+2-methylpentane, and MTBE+2-methylpentane, and the ternary system TBA+MTBE+2-methylpentane, over the entire range of composition at 303.15 K. Excess molar volumes and changes of refractive indices were evaluated from the experimental data obtained. These derived properties were fitted to variable-degree polynomials. The experimental values of physical properties were compared with the values estimated by different methods of prediction.

Preparation and characterization of new low melting ammonium-based ionic liquids with ether functionality
2009
Abstract Eighteen new and three previously known but insufficiently characterized RR´3N+A− and R2R´2N+A− type (R = 2-ethoxyethyl or 4-methoxybenzyl, R´ = methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl, n-pentyl or n-hexyl, A = Br, BF4 or PF6) quaternary ammonium (QA) salts were synthesized and characterized by using 1H and 13C NMR techniques, mass spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The bromide salts were synthesized either by treating dimethyl formamide with an ether functionalized alkyl bromide in the presence of potassium carbonate or by treating a tertiary amine with an ether functionalized alkyl bromide. The QA tetrafluoroborates and hexafluorophosphates were synthesized by metathesis reaction betw…
Parallel Calculation of CCSDT and Mk-MRCCSDT Energies.
2010
A scheme for the parallel calculation of energies at the coupled-cluster singles, doubles, and triples (CCSDT) level of theory, several approximate iterative CCSDT schemes (CCSDT-1a, CCSDT-1b, CCSDT-2, CCSDT-3, and CC3), and for the state-specific multireference coupled-cluster ansatz suggested by Mukherjee with a full treatment of triple excitations (Mk-MRCCSDT) is presented. The proposed scheme is based on the adaptation of a highly efficient serial coupled-cluster code leading to a communication-minimized implementation by parallelizing the time-determining steps. The parallel algorithm is tailored for affordable cluster architectures connected by standard communication networks such as …
Fabrication and Characterization of Polymeric Optical Waveguides Using Standard Silicon Processing Technology
2005
We report the fabrication and characterization of a rib polymeric waveguide having a thick layer of oxidized porous silicon as an innovative solution for the lower cladding. The waveguide was fabricated using standard silicon substrates and Si-based technology. The multimodal guiding structure has a polymethylmetacrylate (PMMA) core and the innovative lower cladding was obtained by thermal oxidation of a porous silicon layer. The waveguide does not have the upper cladding. Propagation loss measurements were performed at 1.48 /spl mu/m using the cut-back method. We obtained propagation loss of about 1.7 dB/cm, confirming the possibility to use the porous silicon oxide as the lower cladding l…
