Īpatnības un problēmas , tulkojot tūrisma tekstus no angļu valodas latviešu valodā
2015
Comparing the Effect of Product-Based Metrics on the Translation Process
2021
Characteristics of the translation product are often used in translation process research as predictors for cognitive load, and by extension translation difficulty. In the last decade, user-activity information such as eye-tracking data has been increasingly employed as an experimental tool for that purpose. In this paper, we take a similar approach. We look for significant effects that different predictors may have on three different eye-tracking measures: First Fixation Duration (duration of first fixation on a token), Eye-Key Span (duration between first fixation on a token and the first keystroke contributing to its translation), and Total Reading Time on source tokens (sum of fixations…
La traduction des métaphores: le cas de Kassandra de Christa Wolf
2012
This paper analyzes, in a comparative way, the conceptual metaphors (Lakoff and Johnson, 1998) used in the German text «Kassandra» of Christa Wolf and in its Italian translation. The metaphors’ translation is important for two reasons. First it shows the socio-cultural aspects that turn around the source language and the target language. On the other hand, it can investigate the role of the language and the linguistic choices. This paper will analyze the metaphors’ translations using a mixed approach, both cognitive linguistics and semiotics but it also focuses on the translation theories. The analysis of metaphors allows us to understand better the comprehension of communicative intentiona…
Translation as artistic communication in the aesthetics of migration: From nonfiction to the visual arts
2017
AbstractIn an increasingly globalized and digitalized world, where the advancement of technologies and media constructions oversimplify and manipulate public beliefs and shared knowledge, the artistic sector seems to provide new networks of solidarity, collaboration and interaction that challenge a world dominated by conflicts and cultural shocks. Against this backdrop, acts of translation within the arts bear witness to humanity and become the ultimate ground for subjective expression and fundamental reflections upon individualist attitudes against migration issues. By putting emphasis on the role of translation in its political transfer of migration into the arts, this investigation draws…
Project-Based Learning: A Case for Situated Translation
2006
The author proposes replacing the folk theoretical ‘conduit’ view of learning that still predominates in Translator Education with a principled understanding of cognitive and learning processes for the design of learning events in Translator Education. A collaborative, project-based educational experience is presented by way of illustration. In conclusion, an argument is made for studying collaborative learning events to gain insight into the multi-facetted nature of the learning process as well as of the translation process itself.

Teaching audio‑visual translation at the “French Philology level 0” course: methods, contents, clues
In the face of a sensible diminution of the number of high‑school graduates able to communicate in French well enough to follow the “classical” French Philology course, many Polish universities offer their students the possibility of studying “French Philology level 0”. One of the key skills developed by this course is translation, including basic audio‑visual translation competences. The paper shows some examples of translator training clues that have been worked out at the Opole University.
Graphic Medicine as a Didactic Tool for Training Medical Translators: a comparative analysis in French and Spanish
2021
The use of comics to communicate health-related topics has aroused growing interest in their translation from English, as well as from other languagessuch as French. Acknowledging the twofold challenge posed by a medium and a language combination that have seldom been explored in medical translation training, we will compare and contrast the Spanish translation of the French comic L’incroyable histoire de la médecine to make a didactic contribution to the training of medical translators. We will study the iconographic and textual codes present in the comic before presenting a proposal for its use in educational settings.

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Cameroon : realities and prospects
2010
For a long time, Cameroon was a success story in the context of Africa’s development. Unfortunately, the economic crises of the eighties and early nineties led to the failure of the development strategies that had been pursued until then, resulting in a severe deterioration of the country’s economy and the living standards of the Cameroonian people (Mentan, 2003). However, this country possesses significant oil wealth which if properly managed can generate abundant revenue to boost economic growth and fund anti-poverty measures. In 2005, Cameroon adhered to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). A proper implementation of this initiative will improve transparency in the c…
Euripides’Andromache, a Choral Tragedy
2013
Andromache is a choral tragedy because the singular role of the chorus in the whole play and because in its plot there is a group of couples/trios, which lead th…
