The Study of the Scale through Space. Teaching Innovation Experience among Architecture Schools: Malaga, Seville and Palermo
2018
The educational innovation project object of this communication focuses on the scale problems that arise in the projects of territorial planning carried out in architecture schools, but also in the loss of the scale concept related to thought and drawing. The project involved collaboration among the Schools of Architecture of Malaga, Palermo and Seville with the aim of carrying out a practical exercise among the students of two subjects that, working on different scales, addressed similar concepts. In particular, following an PBL methodology based on collaborative projects, the planning of the N-340 road in the city of Nerja (Málaga) was carried out. Firstly, the territorial scale is addres…
Voicing the Subaltern in African-American and Dalit Women's Autobiographies
2021
This paper aims to analyse two major autobiographies of Dalit women's literature and African American women's writing - Karukku (1992) by Bama Faustina and Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl (1861) by Harriet A. Jacobs - to bring forth the similarities between these two groups of subaltern women. Through the means of autobiography, both writers transmit their own experiences and denounce the gender, race and caste oppression endured. The subaltern theory coined by Antonio Gramsci and developed by Gayatri Spivak will be used to analyse these texts and the way they establish a link between two different worlds as well as how they share the common objective of making their narrators' exclus…
K4-free Graphs as a Free Algebra
2017
International audience; Graphs of treewidth at most two are the ones excluding the clique with four vertices (K4) as a minor, or equivalently, the graphs whose biconnected components are series-parallel. We turn those graphs into a finitely presented free algebra, answering positively a question by Courcelle and Engelfriet, in the case of treewidth two. First we propose a syntax for denoting these graphs: in addition to parallel composition and series composition, it suffices to consider the neutral elements of those operations and a unary transpose operation. Then we give a finite equational presentation and we prove it complete: two terms from the syntax are congruent if and only if they …
Provable Advantage for Quantum Strategies in Random Symmetric XOR Games
2013
Non-local games are widely studied as a model to investigate the properties of quantum mechanics as opposed to classical mechanics. In this paper, we consider a subset of non-local games: symmetric XOR games of $n$ players with 0-1 valued questions. For this class of games, each player receives an input bit and responds with an output bit without communicating to the other players. The winning condition only depends on XOR of output bits and is constant w.r.t. permutation of players. We prove that for almost any $n$-player symmetric XOR game the entangled value of the game is $\Theta (\frac{\sqrt{\ln{n}}}{n^{1/4}})$ adapting an old result by Salem and Zygmund on the asymptotics of random tr…
Monitoring the Etching Process in LPFGs towards Development of Highly Sensitive Sensors
2017
Trabajo presentado en la Eurosensors 2017 Conference. París, 3–6 de septiembre de 2017. In this work, the monitoring of the etching process up to a diameter of 30 µm of two LPFG structures has been compared, one of them had initially 125 µm, whereas the second one had 80 µm. By tracking the wavelength shift of the resonance bands during the etching process it is possible to check the quality of etching process (the 80 µm fibre performs better than de 125 µm fibre), and to stop for a specific cladding mode coupling, which permits to obtain an improved sensitivity compared to the initial structure. This work was supported by the Spanish Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI) and Fondo Europeo…
Removing krypton from xenon by cryogenic distillation to the ppq level
2017
The XENON1T experiment aims for the direct detection of dark matter in a detector filled with 3.3 tons of liquid xenon. In order to achieve the desired sensitivity, the background induced by radioactive decays inside the detector has to be sufficiently low. One major contributor is the β-emitter 85Kr which is present in the xenon. For XENON1T a concentration of natural krypton in xenon natKr/Xe<200ppq (parts per quadrillion, 1ppq=10-15mol/mol) is required. In this work, the design, construction and test of a novel cryogenic distillation column using the common McCabe–Thiele approach is described. The system demonstrated a krypton reduction factor of 6.4 · 10 5 with thermodynamic stability a…
Immunoanalytical approaches for the control of xenobiotics and biotoxins in food
2020
Science and art from a transevolutionary perspective
2018
From its origins, the human species has manipulated not only the real world but also the figurative one. While that manipulative action of the human species over both worlds was critical for the survival of the species in the beginning of its evolution -now transevolution-, it is also true that in the subsequent culture those worlds have been approached by two trades with highly different conceptual bases, science and art. In this paper I hold the thesis that both trades are necessary to know how to be in the world as well as how to transform it in an appropriate way.
La política de inmigración en la Unión Europea. Desde tres claves
2005
The European Union's immigration policy regarding the control and management of migratory flow, can be seen from many viewpoints. Of these, three are of particular interest. Firstly, the economic aspect, which is based on reducing the figure of the immigrant to a worker, taking into account the conditions and protection of the European Community's employment market. Secondly, the defensive aspect, which emphasises the need to secure frontiers vulnerable to immigrant migration, in order to ensure both security and law and order. Lastly the social aspect, which focuses on the aim for European homogeneity a reference point for the implementation of this policy and for the need to integrate imm…
