Abstract We extend the classical Carathéodory extension theorem to quasiconformal Jordan domains (Y, dY ). We say that a metric space (Y, dY ) is a quasiconformal Jordan domain if the completion ̄Y of (Y, dY ) has finite Hausdorff 2-measure, the boundary ∂Y = ̄Y \ Y is homeomorphic to 𝕊1, and there exists a homeomorphism ϕ: 𝔻 →(Y, dY ) that is quasiconformal in the geometric sense. We show that ϕ has a continuous, monotone, and surjective extension Φ: 𝔻 ̄ → Y ̄. This result is best possible in this generality. Spacelike energy of timelike unit vector fields on a Lorentzian manifold

On a Lorentzian manifold, we define a new functional on the space of unit timelike vector fields given by the L2 norm of the restriction of the covariant derivative of the vector field to its orthogonal complement. This spacelike energy is related with the energy of the vector field as a map on the tangent bundle endowed with the Kaluza–Klein metric, but it is more adapted to the situation. We compute the first and second variation of the functional and we exhibit several examples of critical points on cosmological models as generalized Robertson–Walker spaces and Godel universe, on Einstein and contact manifolds and on Lorentzian Berger’s spheres. On t-Conorm Based Fuzzy (Pseudo)metrics

We present an alternative approach to the concept of a fuzzy (pseudo)metric using t-conorms instead of t-norms and call them t-conorm based fuzzy (pseudo)metrics or just CB-fuzzy (pseudo)metrics. We develop the basics of the theory of CB-fuzzy (pseudo)metrics and compare them with “classic” fuzzy (pseudo)metrics. A method for construction CB-fuzzy (pseudo)metrics from ordinary metrics is elaborated and topology induced by CB-fuzzy (pseudo)metrics is studied. Gradation of Fuzzy Preconcept Lattices

Noticing certain limitations of concept lattices in the fuzzy context, especially in view of their practical applications, in this paper, we propose a more general approach based on what we call graded fuzzy preconcept lattices. We believe that this approach is more adequate for dealing with fuzzy information then the one based on fuzzy concept lattices. We consider two possible gradation methods of fuzzy preconcept lattice—an inner one, called D-gradation and an outer one, called M-gradation, study their properties, and illustrate by a series of examples, in particular, of practical nature.

Abstract A refinement of a trace inequality of McCarthy establishing the uniform convexity of the Schatten p-classes for p > 2 is proved: if A , B are two n-by-n matrices, then there exists some pair of n-by-n unitary matrices U , V such that U | A + B 2 | p U ⁎ + V | A − B 2 | p V ⁎ ≤ | A | p + | B | p 2 . A similar statement holds for compact Hilbert space operators. We characterize free products admitting a faithful and highly transitive action. In particular, we show that the group $\PSL_2(\Z)\simeq (\Z/2\Z)*(\Z/3\Z)$ admits a faithful and highly transitive action on a countable set.

Abstract We construct two invariants for a pair of transverse one-dimensional foliations on the plane. If the set of separatrices is Hausdorff in the space of leaves, the invariant is a distinguished graph. In case there are a finite number of separatrices the invariant is an indexed link.

Abstract A bounded linear operator T ∈ L ( X ) acting on a Banach space satisfies property ( w ) , a variant of Weyl’s theorem, if the complement in the approximate point spectrum σ a ( T ) of the Weyl essential approximate-point spectrum σ wa ( T ) is the set of all isolated points of the spectrum which are eigenvalues of finite multiplicity. In this note, we study the stability of property ( w ) for a polaroid operator T acting on a Banach space, under perturbations by finite rank operators, by nilpotent operators and, more generally, by algebraic operators commuting with T.

Weak chord-arc curves and double-dome quasisymmetric spheres

Let $\Omega$ be a planar Jordan domain and $\alpha>0$. We consider double-dome-like surfaces $\Sigma(\Omega,t^{\alpha})$ over $\overline{\Omega}$ where the height of the surface over any point $x\in\overline{\Omega}$ equals $\text{dist}(x,\partial\Omega)^{\alpha}$. We identify the necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of $\Omega$ and $\alpha$ so that these surfaces are quasisymmetric to $\mathbb{S}^2$ and we show that $\Sigma(\Omega,t^{\alpha})$ is quasisymmetric to the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$ if and only if it is linearly locally connected and Ahlfors $2$-regular.

Spectral rigidity and invariant distributions on Anosov surfaces

This article considers inverse problems on closed Riemannian surfaces whose geodesic flow is Anosov. We prove spectral rigidity for any Anosov surface and injectivity of the geodesic ray transform on solenoidal 2-tensors. We also establish surjectivity results for the adjoint of the geodesic ray transform on solenoidal tensors. The surjectivity results are of independent interest and imply the existence of many geometric invariant distributions on the unit sphere bundle.
