Intrinsic transverse momentum distribution of jet constituents in p-Pb collisions at ALICE

The integral part of the URHIC program is also to study the pp and p–A collision in order to understand the “reference” (unmodified) particle production (in pp) and the “cold” nuclear phenomena in p–A. The main focus of this thesis is to study the parton shower evolution in p–Pb collisions in ALICE by analyzing jet fragmentation transverse momentum (j_{T} ). The analysis of j_{T} in p–Pb collisions, for which ALICE has a high quality data set, lays bases for later extension to pp and Pb–Pb data in order to study the induced gluon radiation. Measurement of jet quenching with semi-inclusive hadron-jet distributions in central Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

We report the measurement of a new observable of jet quenching in central Pb-Pb collisions at √ sNN = 2.76 TeV, based on the semi-inclusive rate of charged jets recoiling from a high transverse momentum (high-pT) charged hadron trigger. Jets are measured using collinear-safe jet reconstruction with infrared cutoff for jet constituents of 0.15 GeV, for jet resolution parameters R = 0.2, 0.4 and 0.5. Underlying event background is corrected at the event-ensemble level, without imposing bias on the jet population. Recoil jet spectra are reported in the range 20 < pch T,jet < 100 GeV. Medium modification of the shape of small-radius jets in central Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

We present the measurement of a new set of jet shape observables for track-based jets in central Pb-Pb collisions at sNN−−−√=2.76 TeV. The set of jet shapes includes the first radial moment or angularity, g; the momentum dispersion, pTD; and the difference between the leading and sub-leading constituent track transverse momentum, LeSub. These observables provide complementary information on the jet fragmentation and can constrain different aspects of the theoretical description of jet-medium interactions. Continuous separation and identification of neutronrich neptunium isotopes from heavy-ion reactions by means of the centrifuge system “sisak”

Abstract Neutron-rich neptunium isotopes formed in direct transfer reactions between 136 Xe projectiles and targets of 244 Pu have been separated from other reaction products with the on-line liquid-liquid extraction system SISAK. A four-detector delay method was used to determine the half-lives of the previously unknown isotopes 243 Np and 244 Np. From the decay of the 287.4 keV γ-line a half-life of 1.8 ± 0.3 min was determined for 243 Np. From the decay curves of the γ-lines at 162.7 and 216.7 keV, which fit into the known level scheme of 244 Pu, a half-life of 2.5 ± 0.3 min results for 244 Np.
Magnetic fields in heavy ion collisions: flow and charge transport

At the earliest times after a heavy-ion collision, the magnetic field created by the spectator nucleons will generate an extremely strong, albeit rapidly decreasing in time, magnetic field. The impact of this magnetic field may have detectable consequences, and is believed to drive anomalous transport effects like the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME). We detail an exploratory study on the effects of a dynamical magnetic field on the hydrodynamic medium created in the collisions of two ultrarelativistic heavy-ions, using the framework of numerical ideal MagnetoHydroDynamics (MHD) with the ECHO-QGP code. Heavy ion SEE test of 2 Gbit DDR3 SDRAM

New generation 2 Gbit DDR3 SDRAMs from Micron, Samsung and Nanya have been tested under heavy ions. SEFIs significantly outweigh random SEU errors even at low LET; however, SEFIs can be mitigated by frequent re-initialization.

Heavy ion SEE studies on 4-Gbit NAND-Flash memories

Heavy ion SEE studies on three 4-Gbit NAND-flash memory types were performed at the RADEF facility at the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland with particular emphasis on SEFI differentiation. An error classification for complex memory devices is introduced, and respective cross sections are reported.
