Comparison of creatinine and inulin clearances in multiple trauma

Creatinine clearance (Ccr) is a good predictor of renal dysfunction. However, numerous analytical interferences have been observed with the classical measurement of creatinine by Jaffé's procedure. This prospective study was conducted to compare 4 methods for determining creatinine; and also endogenous creatinine clearance with inulin clearance (Cin) to estimate the glomerular filtration rate. Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of the Antidepressant Mirtazapine and Its N-Demethylated Metabolite in Human Serum

Mirtazapine is a novel antidepressant that acts by enhancing serotonergic and noradrenergic neurotransmission. Because very little is known about serum concentrations in relation to clinical effects, the use of therapeutic drug monitoring is so far unclear. A rapid automated HPLC method with fluorescence detection was developed for routine quantification of mirtazapine and its demethylated metabolite N-desmethylmirtazapine in human serum. Pharmacokinetics of Droloxifene and Its Metabolites in Breast Cancer Patients

Pharmacokinetics and metabolism of droloxifene, a new antiestrogenic drug, have been investigated by single- and multiple-dose studies in postmenopausal patients with advanced breast cancer. Short terminal elimination half-life, low accumulation, and improved drug tolerability are the most striking features of this safe and effective new antiestrogen. Bioequivalence of film-coated tablet, tablet, and standard solution of droloxifene has been shown. The concentrations of droloxifene and its metabolites have been determined by a highly selective HPLC method.

Bioavailability of NO can be estimated by measuring the concentration of nitrate (NO(3)) in serum. However, the methods used for the measurement NO(3) in plasma or serum show a great degree of variation. Therefore, we compared two analytical methods for the measurement of NO(3) in serum.The concentration of NO(3) in 600 serum samples collected from healthy individuals was determined by the HPLC and by the Griess reagent-spectroscopic method.The concentration of NO(3) in the samples was 29.4+/-16.1 micromol/L and 26.2+/-14.0 micromol/L (mean+/-SD) measured by HPLC and Griess reagent-spectroscopic method respectively (p0.0001). Estradiol counteracts oxidized LDL-induced asymmetric dimethylarginine production by cultured human endothelial cells.

Objective: Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), an endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide (NO) synthase, is a novel cardiovascular risk factor produced by endothelial cells. ADMA levels are mainly regulated by the activity of dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolases (DDAH). Endothelial release of ADMA is increased in the presence of oxidized LDL cholesterol (oxLDL), whereas estrogens stimulate NO production by endothelial cells by increasing both expression and activity of NO synthase and by reducing ADMA levels. Modulation of oestrogen excretion profiles by adjuvant chemotherapy in pre- and postmenopausal breast cancer.

Modulation of steroid status by conventional chemotherapy was studied in 31 breast cancer patients receiving CMF and in 31 age-matched breast cancer patients without any therapy, taken as controls. This was achieved through the study of oestrogen excretion profiles using previously identified parameters and referring not only to classical but also to the “other”, namely catechol and unusual, oestrogen metabolites. Effective Henry's law partitioning and the salting constant of glyoxal in aerosols containing sulfate.

The reversible partitioning of glyoxal was studied in simulation chamber experiments for the first time by time-resolved measurements of gas-phase and particle-phase concentrations in sulfate-containing aerosols. Comparison of UV and charged aerosol detection approach in pharmaceutical analysis of statins

Abstract CAD (charged aerosol detector) has recently become a new alternative detection system in HPLC. This detection approach was applied in a new HPLC method for the determination of three of the major statins used in clinical treatment—simvastatin, lovastatin and atorvastatin.
