An example concerning the zero set of the Jacobian
2006
AbstractLet f∈W1,1(Ω,Rn) be a homeomorphism of finite distortion K. It is known that if K1/(n−1)∈L1(Ω), then the Jacobian Jf of f is positive almost everywhere in Ω. We will show that this integrability assumption on K is sharp in any Orlicz-scale: if α is increasing function (satisfying minor technical assumptions) such that limt→∞α(t)=∞, then there exists f such that K1/(n−1)/α(K)∈L1(Ω) and Jf vanishes in a set of positive measure.
Solving stochastic differential equations on Homeo(S1)
2004
Abstract The Brownian motion with respect to the metric H 3/2 on Diff( S 1 ) has been constructed. It is realized on the group of homeomorphisms Homeo( S 1 ). In this work, we shall resolve the stochastic differential equations on Homeo( S 1 ) for a given drift Z .
Sobolev homeomorphic extensions
2021
Let $\mathbb X$ and $\mathbb Y$ be $\ell$-connected Jordan domains, $\ell \in \mathbb N$, with rectifiable boundaries in the complex plane. We prove that any boundary homeomorphism $\varphi \colon \partial \mathbb X \to \partial \mathbb Y$ admits a Sobolev homeomorphic extension $h \colon \overline{\mathbb X} \to \overline{\mathbb Y}$ in $W^{1,1} (\mathbb X, \mathbb C)$. If instead $\mathbb X$ has $s$-hyperbolic growth with $s>p-1$, we show the existence of such an extension lies in the Sobolev class $W^{1,p} (\mathbb X, \mathbb C)$ for $p\in (1,2)$. Our examples show that the assumptions of rectifiable boundary and hyperbolic growth cannot be relaxed. We also consider the existence of $W^{…
Open and Discrete Maps with Piecewise Linear Branch Set Images are Piecewise Linear Maps
2018
The image of the branch set of a piecewise linear (PL)‐branched cover between PL 𝑛n‐manifolds is a simplicial (𝑛−2)(n−2)‐complex. We demonstrate that the reverse implication also holds: an open and discrete map 𝑓:𝕊𝑛→𝕊𝑛f:Sn→Sn with the image of the branch set contained in a simplicial (𝑛−2)(n−2)‐complex is equivalent up to homeomorphism to a PL‐branched cover. peerReviewed
Optimal Extensions of Conformal Mappings from the Unit Disk to Cardioid-Type Domains
2019
AbstractThe conformal mapping $$f(z)=(z+1)^2 $$ f ( z ) = ( z + 1 ) 2 from $${\mathbb {D}}$$ D onto the standard cardioid has a homeomorphic extension of finite distortion to entire $${\mathbb {R}}^2 .$$ R 2 . We study the optimal regularity of such extensions, in terms of the integrability degree of the distortion and of the derivatives, and these for the inverse. We generalize all outcomes to the case of conformal mappings from $${\mathbb {D}}$$ D onto cardioid-type domains.
Pseudo-rotations of the closed annulus : variation on a theorem of J. Kwapisz
2003
Consider a homeomorphism h of the closed annulus S^1*[0,1], isotopic to the identity, such that the rotation set of h is reduced to a single irrational number alpha (we say that h is an irrational pseudo-rotation). For every positive integer n, we prove that there exists a simple arc gamma joining one of the boundary component of the annulus to the other one, such that gamma is disjoint from its n first iterates under h. As a corollary, we obtain that the rigid rotation of angle alpha can be approximated by homeomorphisms conjugate to h. The first result stated above is an analog of a theorem of J. Kwapisz dealing with diffeomorphisms of the two-torus; we give some new, purely two-dimension…
Controlled diffeomorphic extension of homeomorphisms
2018
Let $\Omega$ be an internal chord-arc Jordan domain and $\varphi:\mathbb S\rightarrow\partial\Omega$ be a homeomorphism. We show that $\varphi$ has finite dyadic energy if and only if $\varphi$ has a diffeomorphic extension $h: \mathbb D\rightarrow \Omega$ which has finite energy.
A criterion for zero averages and full support of ergodic measures
2018
International audience; Consider a homeomorphism $f$ defined on a compact metric space $X$ and a continuous map $\phi\colon X \to \mathbb{R}$. We provide an abstract criterion, called control at any scale with a long sparse tail for a point $x\in X$ and the map $\phi$, which guarantees that any weak* limit measure $\mu$ of the Birkhoff average of Dirac measures $\frac1n\sum_0^{n-1}\delta(f^i(x))$ s such that $\mu$-almost every point $y$ has a dense orbit in $X$ and the Birkhoff average of $\phi$ along the orbit of $y$ is zero.As an illustration of the strength of this criterion, we prove that the diffeomorphisms with nonhyperbolic ergodic measures form a $C^1$-open and dense subset of the s…
Bing meets Sobolev
2019
We show that, for each $1\le p < 2$, there exists a wild involution $\mathbb S^3\to \mathbb S^3$ in the Sobolev class $W^{1,p}(\mathbb S^3,\mathbb S^3)$.
On a theorem of Sobczyk
1991
In this paper the result of Sobczyk about complemented copies of c0 is extended to a class of Banach spaces X such that the unit ball of their dual endowed with the weak* topology has a certain topological property satisfied by every Corson-compact space. By means of a simple example it is shown that if Corson-compact is replaced by Rosenthal-compact, this extension does not hold. This example gives an easy proof of a result of Phillips and an easy solution to a question of Sobczyk about the existence of a Banach space E, c0 ⊂ E ⊂ l∞, such that E is not complemented in l∞ and c0 is not complemented in E. Assuming the continuum hypothesis, it is proved that there exists a Rosenthal-compact s…
