A Curcumin-BODIPY Dyad and Its Silica Hybrid as NIR Bioimaging Probes

In this paper we describe the synthesis of a novel bichromophoric system in which an efficient photoinduced intercomponent energy transfer process is active. The dyad consists of one subunit of curcumin and one of BODIPY and is able to emit in the far-red region, offering a large Stokes shift, capable of limiting light scattering processes for applications in microscopy. The system has been encapsulated in MCM-41 nanoparticles with dimensions between 50 and 80 nm. Both the molecular dyad and individual subunits were tested with different cell lines to study their effective applicability in bioimaging. A Rapid and Sensitive Strip-Based Quick Test for Nerve Agents Tabun, Sarin, and Soman Using BODIPY-Modified Silica Materials

Test strips that in combination with a portable fluorescence reader or digital camera can rapidly and selectively detect chemical warfare agents (CWAs) such as Tabun (GA), Sarin (GB), and Soman (GD) and their simulants in the gas phase have been developed. The strips contain spots of a hybrid indicator material consisting of a fluorescent BODIPY indicator covalently anchored into the channels of mesoporous SBA silica microparticles. The fluorescence quenching response allows the sensitive detection of CWAs in the mu g m(-3) range in a few seconds.

Exposure assessments conducted using a personal sampler include the contribution of human activities to exposure that is neglected when using a stationary air sampler. This study evaluated the uptake characteristics and application of the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS or silicone rubber) brooch as a personal passive air sampler (PPAS) for measuring concentrations of two groups of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), namely phthalates and organophosphate esters (OPEs), indoors in proximity to the breathing zone. Potassium bromide again is well known to be surprisingly effective in patients with severe myoclonic epilepsy in infants (SME). Rare side effects on the skin reappeared, such as the febrile nodular panniculitis (Weber-Christian syndrome). In 1993 we described the first three cases of necrotizing panniculitis and introduced the term 'halogen panniculitis'. It is a systemic disease with crops of subcutaneous nodules, fever, elevated sedimentation rate, hepatosplenomegalia, and abdominal pain. Later severe necrosis of the skin and adipose tissue may happen with deep ulcerations. History and course of five cases, described in this paper, suggest either an allergy or toxic reason. Raman spectra of aluminum nitride (AlN) under pressure have been measured up to $25\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{GPa}$, i.e., beyond the onset of the wurtzite-to-rocksalt phase transition around $20\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{GPa}$. The experimental pressure coefficients for all the Raman-active modes of the wurtzite phase are reported and compared to those obtained from ab initio lattice dynamical calculations, as well as to previous experimental and theoretical results. Il presente lavoro analizza da una prospettiva giuslavoristica il Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), trattato internazionale di libero scambio, da poco sottoscritto da Unione Europea e Canada: il saggio si interroga se tale trattato possa contribuire o meno allo sviluppo del fair trade all'interno delle democrazie occidentali.
