MHC class I tetramers containing peptide epitopes are sensitive tools for detecting antigen-specific CD8(+) T-cell responses. We demonstrate here that binding of HLA-A2 tetramers to CD8(+) T cells specific for the melanoma-associated antigen Melan-A/MART-1 can be fine-tuned by altering either the bound peptide epitope or residues in the alpha 3 domain of HLA-A2, which is important for CD8 binding. Antigen-specific T cells expressing high levels of CD8 could be detected using HLA-A2 tetramers containing the peptide AAGIGILTV, an epitope which is naturally processed and presented from Melan-A/MART-1. A Solution to the Problem of the Maximal Number of Symbols for Biomolecular Computer

The authors present a solution to the problem of generating the maximum possible number of symbols for a biomolecular computer using restriction enzyme BbvI and ligase as the hardware, and transition molecules built of double-stranded DNA as the software. The presented solution offers an answer to the open question, in the algorithm form, of the maximal number of symbols for a biomolecular computer that makes use of the restriction enzyme BbvI.
Bacterial communities in Arctic fjelds of Finnish Lapland are stable but highly pH-dependent

The seasonal and spatial variations of microbial communities in Arctic fjelds of Finnish Lapland were studied. Phospholipid fatty acid analysis (PLFA) and terminal restriction fragment analysis (T-RFLP) of amplified 16S rRNA genes were used to assess the effect of soil conditions and vegetation on microbial community structures along different altitudes of two fjelds, Saana and Jehkas. Terminal restriction fragments were additionally analysed from c . 160 cloned sequences and isolated bacterial strains and matched with those of soil DNA samples. T-RFLP and PLFA analyses indicated relatively similar microbial communities at various altitudes and under different vegetation of the two fjelds. …
Isolation of Alkaloids from Cultured Hybrid Cells of Rauwolfia serpentina*Rhazya stricta.

Two monoterpenoid indole alkaloids and four β-carbolines were isolated from a hydrid cell suspension culture generated from two Apocynaceous plants, Rauwolfia serpentina Benth. and Rhazya stricta Decaisne. This indicates that the function of alkoloid biosynthesis is retained after hybrid formation and that alkaloids not previously detected in the parental plants or cell cultures are formed.
Halloysite Nanotubes for Cleaning, Consolidation and Protection

Herein, we report our recent research concerning the development of halloysite based protocols for cleaning, consolidation and protection purposes. Surface modification of halloysite cavity by anionic surfactants was explored to fabricate inorganic micelles able to solubilize hydrophobic contaminants. Hybrid dispersions based on halloysite and ecocompatible polymers were tested as consolidants for paper and waterlogged archaeological woods. Encapsulation of deacidifying and flame retardant agents within the halloysite lumen was conducted with aim to obtain nanofiller with a long-term protection ability. Abstract In Mach–Zehnder interferometric (MZI) method for determination of thin organic film electrooptic ( EO ) coefficients r 13 and r 33 critical effects, like multiple internal reflections and sample thickness modulation due to electrostriction and piezoelectricity are usually overlooked. Ignoring these effects may lead to inaccurate calculation of EO coefficients from experimental data by the simplified equations. To describe the influence of the above mentioned effects on the output of a MZI containing a thin film polymer sample we have used the Abeles matrix formalism.
Influence of solvents on the antioxidant property of flavonoids.

In polyphenols redox systems, the solvent plays a fundamental role in the chemical behaviour of these compounds. Antioxidants can react in different ways with the prooxidant molecules. We have found differences in the antioxidant capacity of flavonoids such as naringin, neohesperidin, neoericitrin, hesperidin, narirutin didymin and the related flavones naringenin, hesperetin eriodictyol and isosakuratenin, when they are in the presence of radicals and solved in water or in an alcohol mixture.
