Bioavailability in vivo of naltrexone following transbuccal administration by an electronically-controlled intraoral device: a trial on pigs.
2010
Naltrexone (NLX), an opioid antagonist, is widely used in the treatment of opiate addiction, alcoholism and smoking cessation. Its current peroral administration induces various adverse side effects and has limited efficacy since bioavailability and patient compliance are poor. The development of a long-acting drug delivery system of NLX may overcome the current drawbacks and help in the improvement of treatment of addiction. The primary endpoints of this study were: a) to compare the NLX bioavailability and pharmacokinetics after delivering a single transbuccal dose, released by a prototype of intraoral device, versus an intravenous (I.V.) bolus of the same drug dose; b) to verify the func…
Toward mass producible ordered bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaic devices.
2012
A strategy to fabricate nanostructured poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) films for organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells by a direct transfer method from a reusable soft replica mold is presented. The flexible polyfluoropolyether (PFPE) replica mold allows low-pressure and low- temperature process condition for the successful transfer of nanostructured P3HT films onto PEDOT/PSS-coated ITO substrates. To reduce the fabrication cost of masters in large area, we employed well-ordered anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) as a template. Also, we provide a method to fabricate reversed nanostructures by exploiting the self-replication of replica molds. The concept of the transfer method in low temperature with a fl…
Production of polymeric micro- and nanostructures with tunable properties as pharmaceutical delivery systems
2020
Abstract The production of novel graft copolymers based on poly-e-caprolactone (PCL) and polyaspartamide are useful to realize structures for potential biomedical applications. Here, the synthesis of pegylated PCL/polyhydroxyethyl aspartamide (PHEA) graft copolymers (PHEA-g-SUCC-PCL-g-PEG) with tunable composition, was achieved by followpling a synthetic strategy that involved first the grafting of preformed PCL on PHEA backbone, then polyethylen glycol (PEG), by using 1,1′-carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) to speed up the condensation reaction. Graft copolymers with a Derivatization Degree (DD) in PCL ranging between 1.1 and 4.4 mol% were obtained, and processable with different technologies for t…
Negative differential resistance in carbon nanotube field-effect transistors with patterned gate oxide.
2010
We demonstrate controllable and gate-tunable negative differential resistance in carbon nanotube field-effect transistors, at room temperature and at 4.2 K. This is achieved by effectively creating quantum dots along the carbon nanotube channel by patterning the underlying, high-kappa gate oxide. The negative differential resistance feature can be modulated by both the gate and the drain-source voltage, which leads to more than 20% change of the current peak-to-valley ratio. Our approach is fully scalable and opens up a possibility for a new class of nanoscale electronic devices using negative differential resistance in their operation.
Forecasting container transshipment in Germany
2009
International audience; In this paper, we examine container transshipment at German ports using the seasonal ARIMA (SARIMA) model and the Holt-Winters exponential smoothing approach. Our models are designed especially to take account of the seasonal behavior of the quarterly data used. We consider the dynamic development in this sector for the whole container throughput and also the destinations Asia, Europe and North America, which are the world's three main economic regions. Our data runs from the first quarter of 1989 to the fourth quarter of 2006. We provide detailed quarterly forecasts for the year 2007 and 2008. According to forecasting error measures such as Mean Square Error and The…
Clinical evaluation of neodymium-iron-boron (Ne2Fe14B) rare earth magnets in the treatment of mid line diastemas
2015
Background: To evaluate the closure of midline diastema using the Neodymium-Iron-Boron magnets and to compare the treatment duration of midline diastemas with the use of magnets compared to regular orthodontic treatment. Materials and Methods: Thirty patients with age group 12 to 30 years with the midline diastema ranging from 0.5 to 3mm were selected. These patients were divided into two groups. Diastema closure in one group was accomplished by conventional method, in other group was done with Ne 2 Fe 14 B magnets. These magnets were fitted to the labial surfaces of the maxillary central incisors such a way that the opposite poles of the magnets face each other. At each appointment, study …

We sought to determine the effects of the use of a Bioengineered Combo Dual-Therapy CD34 Antibody-Covered Sirolimus-Eluting Coronary Stent (Combo® DTS) in patients with chronic total occlusion (CTO) by evaluating clinical outcomes and by performing an optical coherence tomography (OCT) analysis. We retrospectively analyzed data from 39 patients who had successfully undergone OCT-guided revascularization of a CTO being treated with a Combo® DTS. Clinical assessment, angiography (with quantitative coronary angiography analysis) and OCT examination were performed at baseline and at follow-up. The median follow-up period was 189 days, ranging from 157 to 615 days. At follow-up, revascularizatio…

Implications of irradiating the subventricular zone stem cell niche
2016
Radiation therapy is a standard treatment for brain tumor patients. However, it comes with side effects, such as neurological deficits. While likely multi-factorial, the effect may in part be associated with the impact of radiation on the neurogenic niches. In the adult mammalian brain, the neurogenic niches are localized in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricles and the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus, where the neural stem cells (NSCs) reside. Several reports showed that radiation produces a drastic decrease in the proliferative capacity of these regions, which is related to functional decline. In particular, radiation to the SVZ led to a reduced long-term olfactory memo…
Genetic and Environmental Controls on Nitrous Oxide Accumulation in Lakes
2015
We studied potential links between environmental factors, nitrous oxide (N2O) accumulation, and genetic indicators of nitrite and N2O reducing bacteria in 12 boreal lakes. Denitrifying bacteria were investigated by quantifying genes encoding nitrite and N2O reductases (nirS/nirK and nosZ, respectively, including the two phylogenetically distinct clades nosZ(I) and nosZ(II)) in lake sediments. Summertime N2O accumulation and hypolimnetic nitrate concentrations were positively correlated both at the inter-lake scale and within a depth transect of an individual lake (Lake Vanajavesi). The variability in the individual nirS, nirK, nosZ(I), and nosZ(II) gene abundances was high (up to tenfold) a…
