From Layered Molybdic Acid to Lower-Dimensional Nanostructures by Intercalation of Amines under Ambient Conditions

2006

Nanostructures of varied dimensionality such as rods, scrolls, and disks of molybdenum oxide have been synthesized in gram quantities under ambient conditions using exfoliation of the layers as a synthetic tool. Intercalation of alkylamines (CnH2n+2NH2, where n = 3, 4, 8, 12, and 16) into yellow molybdic acid (MoO3·2H2O) and subsequent treatment with nitric acid resulted in molybdenum oxide nanorods, nanodisks, or oxide−amine composite nanorods. The sizes of the nanoparticles range from a few nanometers to micrometers in length and 10 to 200 nm in diameter. Detailed X-ray, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy analyses reveal an inverse relation between the size…

Effect of Reynolds number and lithium cation insertion on titanium anodization

2016

This work studies the influence of using hydrodynamic conditions (Reynolds number, Re = 0 to Re = 600) during Ti anodization and Li+ intercalation on anatase TiO2 nanotubes. The synthesized photocatalysts were characterized by using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM), Raman Confocal Laser Microscopy, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Mott-Schottky analysis (M-S), photoelectrochemical hydrogen production and resistance to photocorrosion tests. The obtained results showed that the conductivity of the NTs increases with Li+ intercalation and Re. The latter is due to the fact that the hydrodynamic conditions eliminate part of the initiation layer formed over the tu…

The interaction of native calf thymus DNA with FeIII-dipyrido[3,2-a:2’,3’-c]phenazine

2008

The mono and bis dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (dppz) adducts of iron(III) chloride, i.e. [Fe(dppz)]Cl(3) and [Fe(dppz)(2)]Cl(3), have been synthesized and characterized. The interaction of the Fe(III)dppz hydrolyzed aquo complex with native calf thymus DNA has been monitored as a function of the metal complex-DNA molar ratio, by variable temperature UV absorption spectrophotometry, circular dichroism (CD) and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results obtained in solution at various ionic strength values give support for a tight intercalative binding of the Fe(III)dppz cation with DNA. In particular, the appearance of induced CD bands, caused by the addition of Fe(III)dppz, indicate the exi…

ChemInform Abstract: Hybrid Materials Based on Magnetic Layered Double Hydroxides: A Molecular Perspective

2015

ConspectusDesign of functional hybrids lies at the very core of synthetic chemistry as it has enabled the development of an unlimited number of solids displaying unprecedented or even improved properties built upon the association at the molecular level of quite disparate components by chemical design. Multifunctional hybrids are a particularly appealing case among hybrid organic/inorganic materials. Here, chemical knowledge is used to deploy molecular components bearing different functionalities within a single solid so that these properties can coexist or event interact leading to unprecedented phenomena. From a molecular perspective, this can be done either by controlled assembly of orga…

Confinement effects on the interactions of native DNA with Cu(II)-5-triethyl ammonium methyl salicylidene orto-phenylendiiminate in C12E4 liquid crys…

2008

Confinement effects of native calf thymus DNA interacting with the complex Cu(ii)-5-(triethylammoniummethyl)salicylidene ortho-phenylendiiminate (CuL(2+)) perchlorate in tetraethylene glycol monododecyl ether (C(12)E(4)) liquid crystals have been investigated by UV absorption spectrophotometry, circular dichroism (CD) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The results indicate the occurrence of dramatic structural changes of both the DNA and the CuL(2+)-DNA system, when going from aqueous solution to C(12)E(4) liquid crystals, due to confinement constrains imposed by the closed structure of C(12)E(4) reverse micelles. Further marked departures from the behaviour observed in aqueous soluti…

Docking and synthesis of pyrrolopyrimidodiazepinone derivatives (PPDs) and their precursors: New scaffolds for DNA-interacting agents

2007

New classes of pyrrolopyrimidodiazepinone derivatives (PPDs) and their precursors were studied in silico for their ability to form stable complex with DNA fragment. In the docking studies two binding modes can be envisaged: groove mode and intercalating mode. In the case of the best ligands the docking studies revealed a common binding mode with the chromophore intercalated between GC base pairs whereas the side chain lies close to the minor groove. Synthetic approach to the PPD ring systems is discussed.

Quantifying the Covalent Functionalization of Black Phosphorus

2020

Abstract A straightforward quantification method to consistently determine the overall functionalization degree of covalently modified two‐dimensional (2D) black phosphorus (BP) by Raman spectroscopy has been carried out. Indeed, the successful reductive methylation of the BP lattice using sodium intercalation compounds and exhibiting different functionalization degrees has been demonstrated by 31P‐magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectroscopy. Furthermore, the correlation of 31P‐MAS NMR spectroscopy and statistical Raman spectroscopy (SRS) revealed the first method to determine the functionalization degree of BP solely by evaluating the intensities of distinct peaks in the Raman spectra of t…

Disappearance of correlations in the atom motion upon hydrogen intercalation into ReO3lattice

2016

The influence of hydrogen intercalation on the local structure of rhenium trioxide is studied in-situ by the Re L3-edge EXAFS spectroscopy and analysed using a novel approach, based on the use of evolutionary algorithm and wavelet transform. The proposed method allows us to perform accurate EXAFS analysis within the multiple-scattering approach taking into account contributions from outer coordination shells and to access the information on correlations in atomic thermal motion.
