Titrated hypertonic/hyperoncotic solution for hypotensive fluid resuscitation during uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock in rats.

2002

In volume- or pressure-controlled hemorrhagic shock (HS) a bolus intravenous infusion of hypertonic/hyperoncotic solution (HHS) proved beneficial compared to isotonic crystalloid solutions. During uncontrolled HS in animals, however, HHS by bolus increased blood pressure unpredictably, and increased blood loss and mortality. We hypothesized that a titrated i.v. infusion of HHS, compared to titrated lactated Ringer's solution (LR), for hypotensive fluid resuscitation during uncontrolled HS reduces fluid requirement, does not increase blood loss, and improves survival. We used our three-phased uncontrolled HS outcome model in rats. HS phase I began with blood withdrawal of 3 ml/100g over 15 mi…

Gef- und Tubulusweite der Niere bei osmotischer und Wasserdiurese und nach Theophyllininjektionen

1960

The effects of i.v. administered hypertonic solutions (6-fold isotonic solutions of NaCl, sodium sulfate, glucose and mannitol) theophylline (25 mg/kg) and vasopressin (50 mE/kg) on the blood pressure, cortical kidney vessel blood content and tubulus dilatation were studied in large groups of mice. The blood pressure and blood content effects after i.p. injection of 10% NaCl solution and the blood content during water diuresis were also investigated. The kidney vessel blood content was determined through benzidine stained erythrocytes in kidney slices. An increase in blood content as compared to corresponding controls was consistently noted after i.v. injection of 6-fold isotonic solutions …

Die dynamische 31-Phosphor-Magnetresonanz-Spektroskopie des M. quadriceps: Einfluß von Geschlecht und Alter auf spektroskopische Parameter

1999

PURPOSE 31P-MRS is used to assess the influence of sex und age on quadriceps muscle metabolism before and after exercise. MATERIALS AND METHODS 32 healthy volunteers (15 women, 17 men, mean age: 38 +/- 17 yrs.) were examined by dynamic phosphorus-31 (31P) magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). In the magnet, the quadriceps muscle was stressed by an isometric und an isotonic form of exercise until exhaustion, respectively. RESULTS Resting conditions: With increasing subjects' age, the ratio beta-adenosine triphosphate/total phosphate decreased (r = -0.37; p = 0.02). With increasing subjects' age, the ratios inorganic phosphate/phosphocreatine (r = 0.79; p = 5 x 10(-8), phosphomonoester/beta-…

Comparison of post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) after isometric and isotonic exercise on vertical jump performance.

2021

Purpose This study aimed to compare the post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) induced by isometric and isotonic exercise on vertical jump performance. Methods 18 healthy trained men (25.8±2.7 years; 78.4±8.2 kg; 175.7±6.1 cm; 25.4±1.8 BMI; 126.72±10.8 kg squat 1-RM) volunteered for this study. They randomly performed two different PAPE protocols: Isotonic squats (ISOTS), which consisted of 2 sets of 3 repetitions at 75% of one-maximum repetition (1-RM); and isometric squats (ISOMS), which consisted of 2 sets of 4 seconds of submaximal (75% of 1-RM) isometric contraction at 90°-knee flexion. Countermovement jump (CMJ) height was tested at baseline and 4 minutes after each condition…

Salso-bromo-iodine thermal water: a nonpharmacological alternative treatment for postnasal drip-related cough in children with upper respiratory trac…

2018

Postnasal drip (PND)-related cough is a very common symptom in patients with upper respiratory tract infections (URTis). At present, there is not a standard treatment for postnasal drip and postnasal drip-related cough. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the efficacy of a specific salso-bromoiodine thermal water containing hyaluronic acid and grapefruit seed extract (SBI-H-GSE) comparing it with a normal saline solution in children with URTis who refer PND-related symptoms. The study was randomized, single-blind, and controlled. Study group (75 children) was treated with SBI-HGSE and control group (65 children) was treated with a normal saline solution; both compounds were administ…

The influence of Ca2+ antagonists on the ciliary activity of the guinea pig trachea.

1990

The ciliary activity of the guinea pig tracheal respiratory epithelium was measured using a photoelectric device. Fourteen animals were administered 75 mg diltiazem/kg body weight 2 days, 1 day and 4 h prior to the investigation. Thirteen animals served as controls. In the pretreated group, the mean ciliary stroke frequency (13.4 +/- 3.0 Hz) was significantly lower (P = 0.02) than in the control group (16.6 +/- 3.7 Hz). The application of aerosolized 0.3 mmol/l nifedipine solution on the tracheal preparations of the control animals also significantly reduced the stroke frequency (P = 0.02). The ciliary activity never dropped beyond a frequency of about 8 Hz. The most probable interpretation…

Lagrangian dynamics and possible isochronous behavior in several classes of non-linear second order oscillators via the use of Jacobi last multiplier

2015

Abstract In this paper, we employ the technique of Jacobi Last Multiplier (JLM) to derive Lagrangians for several important and topical classes of non-linear second-order oscillators, including systems with variable and parametric dissipation, a generalized anharmonic oscillator, and a generalized Lane–Emden equation. For several of these systems, it is very difficult to obtain the Lagrangians directly, i.e., by solving the inverse problem of matching the Euler–Lagrange equations to the actual oscillator equation. In order to facilitate the derivation of exact solutions, and also investigate possible isochronous behavior in the analyzed systems, we next invoke some recent theoretical result…
