A tetramethoxybenzophenone as efficient triplet photocatalyst for the transformation of diazo compounds.

The aromatic ketone 2,2',4,4'-tetramethoxybenzophenone has a strong absorption band between 300 and 375 nm, and its pi,pi* triplet excited-state is selectively populated in methanol. Both facts make this aromatic ketone a versatile and efficient triplet photocatalyst for the transformation of alpha-diazo carbonyl compounds into mainly the cyclopropanation product.
Enantioselective synthesis of sabina ketone

Both enantiomers of sabina ketone were efficiently prepared via an easy synthesis of 1-diazo-5-methylene-6-methylheptan-2-one, starting from succinic anhydride, followed by its highly enantioselective cyclization catalyzed by chiral dirhodium(II) compounds having ortho-metalated phosphines as ligands.

Es werden zwei Wege zur Darstellung von Oligophenylenen mit einer o-Winkelung beschrieben. Als Ausgangssubstanzen dienen der Mono-enolather des Cyclohexandion (1,2) bzw. Cyclohexenoxyd. Die Darstellung des Mono-enolathylathers des Cyclohexandion (1,2) wird beschrieben. Durch Oxydation nach OPPENAUER mit Chinon als Wasserstoffacceptor konnen die als Zwischenprodukte der Oligophenylene erhaltenen Cyclohexanolderivate in 90%iger Ausbeute in die benotigten Ketone ubergefuhrt werden. The selective bromination with copper(II) bromide of the pyrrole ring in 2-(2'-hydroxybenzoyl)pyrrole (II) in the heterogeneous phase is des- cribed giving in almost quantitative yield the 4,5-dibromo derivative (VI). The subsequent introduction of halogen into the phenol moiety was observed when the reaction was perfomed in the homogeneous phase with an excess of halogenating agent. The pentabromo derivative (IX), a com- pound very active against Staphylococcus aureus (mic=17 nmoles per dm -3 ), was obtained by exhaustive bromination of the title compound. Uncontrolled growth, one of the fundamental properties of malignant tumors, requires a great supply of energy. This energy can be derived from the use of a variety of substrates. Besides glucose oxidation and glucose breakdown to lactic acid, the turnover of endogeneous substrates such as amino acids, free fatty acids and ketone bodies is well documented in vitro. However, under in vivo conditions, only glucose utilization has been investigated in detail, using tumor isotransplants in rodents. For human tumors, only scarce data is available, derived mainly from clinical observations rather than from systematic studies.

Various studies have concluded that in multiple sclerosis (MS) metabolic changes related to energy alterations are generated at the mitochondrial level. These changes produce loss of muscle mass and lead to high levels of oxidative stress related to low levels of the enzyme Paraoxonase 1 (PON1). The ketone bodies, mainly beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), restore this energetic alteration by improving muscular activity. Abstract The photolysis of the 7-acetoxybenzopyran derivatives 1a-5a has been carried out. Chromene 1a was found to undergo extensive photopolymerization. Chromanone 2a underwent a rather inefficient photo-Fries rearrangement to the 6 - and 8 - acetyl derivatives 2b and 2c . Diacetoxychromene 3a gave the unsaturated ketone 8 as the main product, besides its deacetylation analogue 9 and chromanone 11 . Diacetoxychroman 4a afforded a mixture of four C-acetyl products: 1b, 1c, 2b and 2c , together with Chromene 1a and chromanone 2a. An efficient strategy for the stereoselective synthesis of functionalized cyclopentenes and spiro[2.4]heptenes from strained olefins via C–H activation of aryl ketone O-acetyl ketoximes using [RhCl2Cp∗]2 catalyst is described. The results revealed that a wide range of readily accessible aryl and heteroaryl ketoximes are compatible in this method for the ring opening of bicyclic and spirotricyclic olefins.
