Knots in finite memory walks

2016

We investigate the occurrence and size of knots in a continuum polymer model with finite memory via Monte Carlo simulations. Excluded volume interactions are local and extend only to a fixed number of successive beads along the chain, ensuring that at short length scales the excluded volume effect dominates, while at longer length scales the polymer behaves like a random walk. As such, this model may be useful for understanding the behavior of polymers in a melt or semi-dilute solution, where exactly the same crossover is believed to occur. In particular, finite memory walks allow us to investigate the role of local interactions in the transition from highly knotted ideal polymers to almost…

Full field of view super-resolution imaging via two static masks

2008

The usage of two static gratings for obtaining super resolved imaging dates back to the work by Bachl and Lukosz in 1967. However, in that approach, a severe reduction in the field of view was the necessary condition for improving the resolution. In this paper we present two approaches that are also based upon two static gratings but without the need to sacrifice in the field of view. The key idea for not paying with the field of view is performed in two ways: First, by using white light illumination that averages the ghost images obtained outside the region of interest since the positions of those images are wavelength dependent. Second, by using two random functions for the encoding and t…

Global Linear Stability Analysis of the Flow Around a Superhydrophobic Circular Cylinder

2016

International audience; Over the last few years, superhydrophobic (SH) surfaces have been receiving an increasing attention in many scientific areas by virtue of their ability to enhance flow slip past solid walls and reduce the skin-friction drag. In the present study, a global linear-stability analysis is employed to investigate the influence of the SH-induced slip velocity on the primary instability of the 2D flow past a circular cylinder. The flow regions playing the role of 'wavemaker' are identified by considering the structural sensitivity of the unstable mode, thus highlighting the effect of slip on the global instability of the considered flow. In addition, a sensitivity analysis t…

Characterization of Gibberella fujikuroi complex isolates by fumonisin B-1 and B-2 analysis and by RAPD and restriction analysis of PCR-amplified int…

2000

Summary Twenty nine isolates of Fusarium spp. (twenty four of them belonging to the Gibberella fujikuroi complex) isolated from banana and corn from different geographical regions were analyzed for their ability to produce fumonisins B 1 and B 2 and for genetic relatedness using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and restriction analysis of PCR amplification products of the 5.8s ribosomal DNA-intervening internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS I-5.8S-ITS II). For RAPD analysis, six of twenty oligonucleotide primers were selected after testing with five Fusarium spp. isolates and used to characterize 24 additional isolates. DNA fragments from the 29 isolates of Fusarium spp., which wer…

N-(3-Methoxypropyl)-1,8-naphthalimide

2003

In the title compound, C16H15NO3, the 1,8-naphthalenodicarboximide group is nearly planar and, in the naphthalimide ring system, the characteristic alternating pattern of bond lengths is observed. In the crystal, the molecules are connected by a weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bond and extend in the direction parallel to the b axis.

Composition, hydrogen bonding and viscoelastic properties correlation for ethylene/α,ω-alkenol copolymers

2022

The influence of composition of ethylene/α,ω-alkenol (α,ω-alkenol = 10-undecen-1-ol or 9-decen-1-ol) copolymers on comonomer distribution and dynamic rheological properties were investigated. Thermal fractionation revealed formation of multiple peaks corresponding to the presence of methylene sequences of different length in copolymers. The share of fraction with shorter methylene sequence increased with increasing comonomer content. It turned out that viscoelastic behavior of ethylene/α,ω-alkenol copolymers was dependent on comonomer content incorporated into the polymer chain. The relaxation time of reptation increased with increasing comonomer content what confirmed that comonomer units …

Photochemical Size Reduction of CdSe and CdSe/ZnS Semiconductor Nanoparticles Assisted by nπ* Aromatic Ketones

2009

A novel effect of n pi* aromatic ketones on the quantum dots optical properties is reported. By controlling experimental conditions such as time of irradiation, presence of air in the media, hydrogen donor capacity of the solvent, and irradiation wavelength, core and core-shell CdSe QDs can be resized as convenient.

[Bis(dimethylsulphoxide) protium][trans-bisdimethylsulphoxidetetrachloroiridate(III)]

1988

Abstract [(DMSO)2H]trans-[IrCl4(DMSO)2] (DMSO = dimethylsulphoxide) has been structurally characterized. The hydrogen bonded cation [DMSOHDMSO]+ has a very short OHO bond distance (2.405 A) which compares well with that in the known rhodium analogue. The two DMSO ligands are trans on iridium and coordinate via the sulphur atoms. Earlier work had assigned the cis structure to the anion in this compound.

Defining minimum runoff length allows for discriminating biocrusts and rainfall events

2021

This study was started in the context of the research projects PECOS (REN2003-04570/GLO) and PREVEA (CGL2007-63258/BOS) , both funded by the Spanish National Plan for RD&I and by the European ERDF Funds (European Regional Development Fund) , and continued during the project SCIN (Soil Crust In-terNational, PRI-PIMBDV-2011-0874, European project of ERA-NET BIODIVERSA, the Spanish team being funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) . The work was finally supported and culminated by the DINCOS project (CGL2016-78075-P, Spanish State Programme for Scientific Research) and by the European ERDF Funds (Euro-pean Regional Development Fund) . Effect of plot size on measured soil loss for two Italian experimental sites

2011

The objective of this investigation was to determine empirically the plot width and length effects on runoff volume, Ve, soil loss, Ae, and sediment concentration, Ce, by using data collected, at the temporal scale of the erosive event, on bare plots differing in width (2 to 8 m) and length (11 to 22 m) for two Italian stations (Masse, Umbria; Sparacia, Sicily). Mean results differed by a maximum factor of 1.6 for Ve, 1.8 for Ae and 1.2 for Ce when plots differing in width were compared and by a maximum factor of 1.4 for Ve, 1.2 for Ae and 1.3 for Ce when comparison between plot lengths was conducted. Differences between two plot widths or two plot lengths were not statistically significant…
