2013
[EN] We present a proposal addressed to students of the first courses of ESO. Through these activities, pupils will work concepts related with proportionality. Our proposal is developed along art history, the students will acquire skills related with proportionality through the uses the artists have done throughout history. Through a route beginning in ancient Egypt and ending in today Athens, students will act as the artists, architects or even tour guides to deal with technical problems and solve them mathematically. Some of the activities have been already implemented in the project Estalmat CV (a mathematic stimulation program for talented students) and later adapted to a conventional c…
2017
[EN] In this paper, we present an analysis of written productions of 16 year-old students while solving Estimation Problems involving Big Numbers (EPiBN). This kind of problems is a particular type of Fermi problems and allows us to introduce modelling processes in Secondary school classrooms. Our analysis supports on the characterization of mathematical models developed by students based on the model definition of Lesh and Harel. The results show that, through the analysis of EPiBN resolutions, differentiating aspects can be distinguished between the models produced by students without modelling experience of those produced by students with prior experience, especially in the concepts and …
Avances de investigación en educación matemática
2020
2016
[EN] The concept of competency has become more and more important in our educational system, partly due because of external tests assessing educational quality, as PISA, highlight the need not only to introduce methodological changes in the teaching of mathematics in the Secondary education, but also to design new tools in order to develop mathematical competence, understood as the ability of our students to mathematize real life situations. In this thesis we want to study the role that modelling tasks can play in the development of mathematical competency, and, particularly, in problem solving. For this aim, we have designed a series of modelling tasks based on three different perspectives…
Modelling a real situation with tablets: the ball experiment
2015
[EN] In this study we present an experience carried out in an 11th grade class. We use a teaching model designed to work the concepts of family of functions and parameter through the modelling. This model has the characteristic that the data are obtained by students in classroom using tablets and it includes elements that allow them to manage the modelling process. The analysis of the results revealed that the realization of a previous qualitative analysis of the phenomenon studied and the students’ knowledge about the families of functions and the meaning of the parameters are key elements in the management and control of the entire process. Besides, we obtained information about the stude…
2013
[EN] In this paper we present an outline of an ongoing research in which we intend to investigate on the teaching of the modelling process and families of functions in the context of a course in Economics and Management. Specifically, we introduce some of the theoretical foundations that support the research and we present an example of one of the activities that we are designing for teaching.
Coloring Linear Algebra
2016
[EN] We present an example of how we can introduce basic concepts on Linear Algebra in a first course of an Engineering School. We use the RGB pattern color which allows us to decompose a color into three primary colors (namely, red, green, blue). By using this model we give a natural connexion between the additivity of the color decomposition and the notions on linear algebra (as vector space, linear combination and convex linear span of vectors). To visualize these connexions we use Geogebra.
A school trip and three modelling tasks. A experience in a secondary classroom
2015
[EN] This paper describes an experimence conducted in a ninth grade classroom. Three modeling tasks have been designed both related with the organization of a school trip. The main objective is to obtain the aspects to be considered when we propose this kind of tasks. For this aim we will analyze the result of experience thought the student’s responses in order to identify and classify the difficulties encountered them
Design and implementation of modelling tasks using iPad's: a dual perspective
2016
[EN] This paper presents the design of two experiences to introduce modelling of physical phe-nomena through modelling tasks using iPadR's. Each of the proposals is designed with adi erent vision about modelling. In one case modelling is used as a vehicle to introduceprecise mathematical contents. While, on the other one, we intend to develop an activitythat can help student to improve their modelling competence. Our aim is to present twoproposals to introduce modelling in a ninth or tenth grade classroom
