Adsorption and Detection of DNA Dendrimers at Carbon Electrodes

1998

Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T19:53:27Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 1998-01-01 Dendritic nucleic acids are highly branched and ordered molecular structures, possessing numerous single-stranded oligonucleotide arms, which hold great promise for enhancing the sensitivity of DNA biosensors. This article evaluates the interfacial behavior and redox activity of nucleic acid dendrimers at carbon paste electrodes, in comparison to DNA. Factors influencing the adsorption behavior, including the adsorption potential and time, solution conditions, or dendrimer concentration, are explored. The strong adsorption at the anodically pretreated carbon surface is exploited for …

eta1-Allypalladium complexes with tridentate PNP’ ligand for the assembly of modified Screen Printed Electrodes: an electrochemical study.

2015

Specific Pd-based organometallic complex, in particular the [Pd(η1-CH2–CH=CH2)(P–N–P’)]BF4 was used for the assembly of chemically modified Screen Printed Electrodes (SPEs) and their electrochemical reactivity was also investigated. For this purpose potassium ferricyanide, hexaammineruthenium(III) chloride, sodium hexachloroiridate-(III) hydrate, ascorbic acid (AA), uric acid (UA), acetaminophen (Ac), guanine (G) and adenine (A) were used to study the electron-transfer processes, which occurred at modified SPEs, fabricated by using the [Pd(η1-CH2–CH=CH2)(P–N–P’)]BF4, applying the drop casting procedure. Interesting results were obtained in the case of the guanine (G) quantitative detection,…

X-ray structures of five variably tert-butoxycarbonyl-substituted adenines and their liquid and solid state NMR investigations

2009

Abstract Adenine reacts selectively with di- tert -butyldicarbonate in THF in the presence of NaOH to give N 9-monoBoc-adenine 1 . The molecular structure and crystal packing of this and four other variably substituted Boc-derivatives of adenine were determined in solid state by means of X-ray diffraction and CP/MAS NMR experiments and characterized in liquid state by 1 H, 13 C, and 15 N NMR spectroscopy as well. Additionally, crystal structure of inclusion compound between N 6 -monoBoc-adenine 5 and CHCl 3 is reported. Tautomeric equilibria of mono- and disubstituted derivatives 4 and 5 in liquid state were studied by VT NMR experiments.

3-Diazopyrroles—IV. Structure determination using 13C NMR spectroscopy

1990

Abstract On the basis of the 13 C NMR chemical shifts, it is proposed that, although b is the major canonical structure, structure c , in which a negative charge resides at C-3, provides an important contribution to the resonance stabilization of the 3-diazopyrroles, 1–4 .

3D-Ultrastructure, Functions and Stress Responses of Gastropod (Biomphalaria glabrata) Rhogocytes

2014

Rhogocytes are pore cells scattered among the connective tissue of different body parts of gastropods and other molluscs, with great variation in their number, shape and size. They are enveloped by a lamina of extracellular matrix. Their most characteristic feature is the "slit apparatus", local invaginations of the plasma membrane bridged by cytoplasmic bars, forming slits of ca. 20 nm width. A slit diaphragm creates a molecular sieve with permeation holes of 20×20 nm. In blue-blooded gastropods, rhogocytes synthesize and secrete the respiratory protein hemocyanin, and it has been proposed-though not proven-that in the rare red-blooded snail species they might synthesize and secrete the he…

Dielectrophoretic trapping of multilayer DNA origami nanostructures and DNA origami-induced local destruction of silicon dioxide

2015

DNA origami is a widely used method for fabrication of custom-shaped nanostructures. However, to utilize such structures, one needs to controllably position them on nanoscale. Here we demonstrate how different types of 3D scaffolded multilayer origamis can be accurately anchored to lithographically fabricated nanoelectrodes on a silicon dioxide substrate by DEP. Straight brick-like origami structures, constructed both in square (SQL) and honeycomb lattices, as well as curved "C"-shaped and angular "L"-shaped origamis were trapped with nanoscale precision and single-structure accuracy. We show that the positioning and immobilization of all these structures can be realized with or without thi…

Monte Carlo simulation of DNA electrophoresis

1989

This paper describes an attempt to study the electrophoresis mobility of a DNA molecule in a gel by means of a Monte Carlo simulation. We find that the electrophoresis mobility mu can be well described by the empirical equation mu v kappa 1/N + kappa 2E2 with N being the number of monomers of the model chain and E being the applied field. For small E the data can merge into the linear response result mu = kappa 1/N. The paper also discusses necessary extensions of the present approach.

The dark side of foetal bovine serum in extracellular vesicle studies

2022

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been shown to be involved in cell-cell communication and to take part in both physiological and pathological processes. Thanks to their exclusive cargo, which includes proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids from the originating cells, they are gaining interest as potential biomarkers of disease. In recent years, their appealing features have been fascinating researchers from all over the world, thus increasing the number of in vitro studies focused on EV release, content, and biological activities. Cultured cell lines are the most-used source of EVs; however, the EVs released in cell cultures are influenced by the cell culture conditions, such as the use of fo…

Zinc complexes as fluorescent chemosensors for nucleic acids: new perspectives for a “boring” element

2014

Zinc(ii) complexes are effective and selective nucleic acid-binders and strongly fluorescent molecules in the low energy range, from the visible to the near infrared. These two properties have often been exploited to quantitatively detect nucleic acids in biological samples, in both in vitro and in vivo models. In particular, the fluorescent emission of several zinc(ii) complexes is drastically enhanced or quenched by the binding to nucleic acids and/or upon visible light exposure, in a different fashion in bulk solution and when bound to DNA. The twofold objective of this perspective is (1) to review recent utilisations of zinc(ii) complexes as selective fluorescent probes for nucleic acid…

Improved resolution power of electrophoretic fractionation of DNA using a voltage gradient up and down application

2004

The improved resolution power of electrophoretic fractionation of DNA in a wide range of molecular masses is demonstrated using an "up and down" application of voltage gradient gel electrophoresis (VGGE). This application also allows separation of different DNA fragments which are poorly fractionated in conventional electrophoresis.
