: Contextuel influence in choosing curriculum pathways in secondary schools : the school effect.

2004

The results of this research highlight the inequal nature of the process of choosing school careers upper secondary schools according to the school attended by the pupils, notably according to the social background within the school. If important social and academic differences appear in the pupils' study choice, they are mainly ratified by the staff (who tend even sometimes to emphasize them). Thus, the choice appears to be an internal process which come under the policy teach school, which consists in part in managing the social background of the pupils by allocating the later more or less equally between the different tracks available.

: Influence of tenth graders' personal school experiences on their achievement and curriculum choices

2005

This study shows that various dimensions of students' school experiences (namely academic self-evaluation and their attitude towards certain subjects) have a significant influence on their academic achievement (French and Mathematics), as well as on their curriculum choices. The results should encourage teachers and counsellors to take into account students' personal biases when helping them to either construct academic projects or to avoid academic failure.

Teaching of energy issues: A debate proposal for a global reorientatiom

2007

The growing awareness of serious difficulties in the learning of energy issues has produced a great deal of research, most of which is focused on specific conceptual aspects. In our opinion, the difficulties pointed out in the literature are interrelated and connected to other aspects (conceptual as well as procedural and axiological), which are not sufficiently taken into account in previous research. This paper aims to carry out a global analysis in order to avoid the more limited approaches that deal only with individual aspects. From this global analysis we have outlined 24 propositions that are put forward for debate to lay the foundations for a profound reorientation of the teaching o…

An experimental investigation of claimed self-handicapping strategies across motivational climates based on achievement goal and self-determination t…

2020

The purpose of the present experiment was to investigate whether the motivational climates (MCs) drawn from achievement goal and self-determination theories would affect perceived competence and the use of claimed self-handicapping. Specifically, this study examined the effects of performance MC, mastery MC and need-supportive MC on these two variables. In the context of high school physical education, 37 participants had the opportunity to claim handicaps before performing an isometric resistance task in a given MC. This procedure was repeated three times at one-week intervals so that all participants were assigned to each of the three MCs. Consistent with our hypotheses, students claimed …

Changes in students’ self‐determined motivation and goal orientation as a result of motivational climate intervention within high school physical edu…

2006

Abstract The aim of the study was to analyze changes in students’ self‐determined motivation and goal orientation following a one academic‐year intervention that was directed toward increasing task‐involvement during physical education lessons. After adjusting for initial differences, students in the intervention classes were more self‐determined by the end of the year than students in the control group. Additionally, the experimental group decreased in external regulation, whereas, it increased in the control group. Students in experimental groups were also less amotivated than students in the control group. Finally, experimental students reported higher levels of task orientation when com…

High-sensitivity U–Pb rutile dating by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) with an O2+ primary beam

2012

Abstract We present a secondary ionization mass spectrometry (SIMS) technique for U–Pb geochronology of rutile at high spatial resolution and sensitivity using an O2+ primary ion beam coupled with surficial O2 gas deposition (O2 flooding). The O2+ beam is ~ 10 × more intense than conventionally applied O− or O2− beams at the same lateral resolution. Natural and synthetic rutile was determined to be conductive under O2+ bombardment, permitting higher excavation (sputter) rates than conventional SIMS using negatively charged O-beams without detrimental effects of sample charging. The main advantage of O2+ is rapid sputtering at shallow primary ion penetration depths. This minimizes the contri…

Mothers' parenting stress and adolescents' emotional separation: The role of youngsters' self orientation

2015

The study examined the association among mothers’ parenting stress, adolescents’ emotional separation and self-orientation toward connectedness. Participants were 194 Italian adolescents, aged from 15 to 19 years (mean age = 17.39, SD = 1.18), and their mothers, aged from 33 to 64 years (mean age = 44.35, SD = 5.40). General findings showed that adolescents’ emotional separation may not necessarily be associated with their mothers’ parenting stress, but both of these variables may be related to adolescents’ personal characteristics, which may contribute to define parent-child relationship. Particularly, adolescents’ orientation towards a connected self was associated negatively with emotion…

Assessment of Entrepreneurial Orientation in Vocational Training Students: Development of a New Scale and Relationships With Self-Efficacy and Person…

2019

Having emerged as an important concept in the organizational field, entrepreneurial orientation has also become a key idea in the context of education. Indeed, entrepreneurial education is now one of the common objectives for education and training systems in the European Union. Despite its importance, however, there is a scarcity of valid and reliable measures for assessing entrepreneurial orientation in students. The present study aimed to address this by developing and examining the psychometric properties of the Entrepreneurial Orientation Scale (EOS). A second objective is to study the relationships between entrepreneurial orientation and gender, self-efficacy, and personal initiative.…
