The Erlangen anatomist Joseph von Gerlach was one of the first medical researchers who used microphotography for their scientific aims in basic tissue research. Already in 1863, Gerlach published a famous handbook on the methodology of the microphotographic technique, entitled Die Photographie als Hulfsmittel mikroskopischer Forschung. Here, he discussed the technological, practical and epistemological standards and constraints of the newly introduced visualisation technique of scientific photography. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the operator's experience on the shaping of double-curvature simulated root canals with a nickel-titanium single-file reciprocating motion system.Sixty double-curvature root canals simulated in methacrylate blocks were prepared by 10 students without any experience in endodontics and by 10 professionals who had studied endodontics at the postgraduate level. The Reciproc-VDW system's R25 file was used in the root canal preparation. The blocks were photographed before and after the instrumentation, and the time of instrumentation was also evaluated. Photodynamics in stable complexes composed of a zinc porphyrin tripod and pyridyl porphyrins assembled by multiple coordination bonds

A tripod zinc porphyrin (TPZn(3)) forms a stable 1:1 complex with gold(III) tetra(4-pyridyl)porphyrin (AuTPyP(+)) and free-base tris(4-pyridyl)porphyrin (2H-Py(3)P) in nonpolar solvents. The strong binding of TPZn(3) with AuTPyP(+) or 2H-Py(3)P results from the encapsulation of AuTPyP(+) or 2H-Py(3)P inside the cavity of TPZn(3) through multiple coordination bonds, as indicated by UV-vis-NIR, ESI-MS, (1)H NMR, electrochemistry and computational studies. The binding constants of monomer zinc porphyrin (MPZn) with AuTPyP(+) and 2H-Py(3)P drastically decrease as compared with TPZn(3). Going Home : A Conversation with Artist Mu Ge

In 2004, noticing the scale of the demolition, displacement and relocation of the Three Gorges Project, Chinese photographer Mu Ge started to focus on the living conditions of ordinary people in the Three Gorges region. His photographic series Going Home was nominated for the Foam Paul Huf Award in 2011 and selected as a Juror’s Pick for the 2012 Daylight Photo Awards. Since 2013, he has been working on Behind the Wall, a new series that takes the destruction of the environment and the people’s survival situation under the background of mass urbanization and industrialization in northern China as the main concern. Mu Ge’s work has been shown in many exhibitions.
Effects of high-energy electrons in advanced NAND flash memories

We study the effects of high-energy electrons on advanced NAND Flash memories with multi-level and single-level cell architecture. We analyze the error rate in floating gate cells as a function of electron energy, evaluate the impact of total ionizing dose, and discuss the physical origin of the observed behavior.

Evaluation of Mechanisms in TID Degradation and SEE Susceptibility of Single- and Multi-Level High Density NAND Flash Memories

Heavy ion single-event measurements and total ionizing dose (TID) response for 8 Gb commercial NAND flash memories are reported. Radiation results of multi-level flash technology are compared with results from single-level flash technology. The single-level devices are less sensitive to single event upsets (SEUs) than multi-level devices. In general, these commercial high density memories exhibit less TID degradation compared to older generations of flash memories.
Self-Healing of Redundant FLASH ADCs

For the design of high-speed ADCs, the traditional speed-accuracy trade-off can only be solved at the expense of power consumption. Using fast small transistors takes full advantage of technology scaling but induces large amounts of random variability. Redundancy has been proposed as a way to cope with variability in FLASH converter and open the trade-off. The offset of redundant comparators are measured and only the best candidates which have been selected are powered-up.
