This article examines the role of pupils’ L1 in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and summarises a part of a two-phased mixed methods research. In the qualitative phase, three CLIL teachers were interviewed and their CLIL lessons were observed. In the quantitative phase, a survey was formed based on the results emerging from the qualitative phase which was answered by 44 CLIL teachers in Finland. The results showed that language is an important factor in the differentiation of CLIL education. Dialogical view on learner agency of immigrant pupils : a case study of the learners of Finnish as L2

This study explores the dialogical nature of agency when two immigrant pupils, who are learning Finnish as their new target language, are authoring their selves. Bakhtin’s dialogism was the inspiration for this examination of the discourses that surround the L2 pupils’ agency and how they respond to discourses through their agency. Ethnographically oriented data collection included classroom observations, the pupils’ portfolios, and interviews with the pupils (as main participants) and meaningful adults. INCLUSIVE EDUCATION IN ITALY

European member States implement Inclusive Education policies thus contributing to a sustainable, inclusive society, although each country is at a different stage in this process. Italy, one of the first countries to launch integrative learning, has set an example since the 1970s, although the quality of inclusive education is unpredictable due to many issues. Authors Cantoni and Panetta (2006) emphasize that, although the culture of integration in Italy exists, much needs to be done to improve the quality of inclusive education and at present new, innovative projects are exploring strategies to this effect, the results of which will lead to a national reform on Special Needs Education.�…
