Explaining children’s failure in analogy making tasks: A problem of focus of attention?

International audience; Analogical reasoning is commonly recognized as essential to human cognition, but young children often perform poorly in the classical A:B::C:? analogical reasoning task. Previous eye-tracking results have shown that children did not visually explore the A:B pair as much as adults in this task. We hypothesized that this lack of exploration could help account for the low scores of children in comparison to adults. The present study shows that children’ performance improves significantly if they are required to look at and process the A:B pair before they are shown the full A:B::C:? problem. How do we exist in the world? And how to settle down effectively in one language or another language? This article is largely based on reflections of the book Linguistics, cognition and didactics. Principles and exercises of linguistic-didactic, masterpiece of linguist Samir Bajrić. In this text, we are mainly interested in cognition, language, and the appropriation of a language or another language, and in which we conduct a cognitive, linguistic and philosophical research on the human being and on the speaker-being while taking advantage of linguistic neoteny. The languages analyzed in this text are mainly French and Mandarin.

In Mandarin, the word for the world is shìjiè (mandarin 世界), the morpheme shì (mandarin 世) indicates time, while the morpheme jiè (mandarin界) indicates space. L'application d'une procédure est une activité qui passe par une série d'accomplissements pratiques réalisés en situation (qui ne peuvent pas être définis ex ante).
