La geografía escolar: deseos institucionales y vivencias de aula
2018
School geography embodies the attempt of political and academic institutions of systematizing geographical content knowledge: to transform geography in a learning object for the population. The purpose of this article is to highlight the existing differences and similarities in the analysis of school geography. On the one hand, we refer to the curricular framework and to the education system. On the other hand, we deal with the inherent problems of geography teaching in childhood, primary and secondary education. In these contexts, geography contents aim to convey the description of the environment to students that tend to distrust canonical academic discourse, as they consider it to be bey…

A parental voice: parents as equal and dependent – rhetoric about parents, teachers, and their conversations
2009
This study analyses texts from the National Parents’ Committee for Primary and Lower Secondary Education in Norway and addresses how parents describe their own role, the teachers’ role, and their conversations. The theoretical perspective employed is Koselleck’s conceptual theory. The findings show that, despite having formal legal rights, parents must constantly legitimize these rights in school. Parents are expected to assume a passive role, while the teachers’ role is held to be active. Furthermore, the diversity among parents is not discussed. Parents moreover resign their own involvement in their children’s education in spite of the fact that teachers and parents may have different per…

¿Son realmente tan buenos los nativos digitales?: relación entre las habilidades digitales y la lectura digital
2015
Digital reading literacy consists on the comprehension, use, reflection and enjoyment of written texts with the aim to fulfill our goals, to develop our knowledge and potential, and to participate in our society. Currently it is considered that “digital natives”, i.e. those students that have been raised surrounded by information technologies, poses the basic digital skills (such as using the mouse, the browser, …) required to develop digital reading skills. The present study tested this assumption, by means of a study in which students of 5th level of primary education and 3rd level of secondary education performed a series of digital reading tasks. In addition, students completed several …

Citizen science for scientific literacy and the attainment of sustainable development goals in normal education
2020
Curricular integration of the formal teaching of citizen science can bring to the classroom aspects of scientific literacy that encourage the involvement of citizens. In particular, these include non-epistemic aspects related to the sociology of science (which are often not transferred to the classroom). Furthermore, this practice raises awareness among students, and encourages them to become participants in the attainment of the United Nations&rsquo
