Highly enantioselective copper(I)-catalyzed conjugate addition of 1,3-diynes to a,b-unsaturated trifluoromethyl ketones

2015

[EN] The conjugate diynylation of a,b-unsaturated trifluoromethyl ketones is carried out in the presence of a low catalytic load (2.5 mol%) of a copper(I)–MeOBIPHEP complex, triethylamine and a terminal 1,3-diyne. Pre-metalation of the terminal 1,3-diyne with stoichiometric or higher amounts of dialkylzinc reagent is not required. The corresponding internal diynes bearing a propargylic stereogenic center are obtained with good yields and excellent enantioselectivities.

Highly enantioselective copper(I)-catalyzed conjugate addition of terminal alkynes to 1,1-difluoro-1-(phenylsulfonyl)-3-en-2-ones: new ester/amide su…

2013

A highly enantioselective copper-catalyzed conjugate alkynylation of monoactivated enones, namely 1,1-difluoro-1-(phenylsulfonyl)-3-en-2-ones, is described. The reaction products are obtained with good yields and excellent enantioselectivities (from 92 to 99% ee). The β-alkynylated difluoro(phenylsulfonyl) ketones can be converted into the corresponding β-alkynylated difluoro- and trifluoromethyl ketones, esters and amides. This is the first example on the use of 1,1-difluoro-1-(phenylsulfonyl)-3-en-2-ones as substrates in an enantioselective reaction, which have been shown to be new ester/amide surrogates.

Multiple reaction monitoring for identification and quantification of oligosaccharides in legumes using a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer.

2022

Raffinose family oligosaccharides are non-digestible compounds considered as dietary prebiotics with health-related properties. Hence, it is important to develop highly specific methods for their determination. An analytical method is developed in this study for oligosaccharide identification and quantification using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry equipped with a triple quadrupole analyser operating in Multiple Reaction Monitoring mode. Raffinose, stachyose and verbascose are separated in a 10-minute run and the method is validated over a broad concentration range, showing good linearity, accuracy, precision and high sensitivity. A low-cost, short eco-friendly procedure for …

An Unprecedented Iridium(III) Catalyst for Stereoselective Dimerisation of Terminal Alkynes

2008

A novel iridium(III) hydride complex, IrHCl(TIMP 3 ) {HTIMP 3 = tris[1-(diphenylphosphino)-3-methyl-lH-indol-2-yl]methane) was prepared and fully characterized in both the solid state and in solution. Chloride abstraction by silver cations provides a more reactive compound, [IrH-(TIMP 3 )][BF 4 ], which can react with pyridine (py) and phenylacetylene to yield the complexes [IrH-(TIMP 3 )(py)][BF 4 ] and [Ir(PhCH=C-CH=CHPh)-(TIMP 3 )][BF 4 ], respectively. Interestingly, IrH-(TIMP 3 )(py)][BF 4 ] efficiently catalyses the stereoselective dimerisation of model terminal alkynes to the 1,4-disubstituted (E)-but-1-en-3-yne only.

Dodecyloxy-substituted 2,4,6-tris(styryl)pyridines

2008

(E,E,E)-2,4,6-Tris(styryl)pyridines 2a-c with 3, 6 or 9 dodecyloxy substituents were prepared by the highly stereoselective condensation reaction of collidine (8) and the corresponding phenyl-(1-phenyl-methylidene)amines 7a-c (Siegrist reaction). In contrast to the corresponding compounds with a benzene or a 1,3,5-triazine core, 2a-c do not show any hints for the formation of thermotropic liquid crystals. The major application of such star-shaped systems is in the field of nonlinear optics.

Signals of major histocompatibility complex overdominance in a wild salmonid population

2009

The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) contains the most variable genes in vertebrates, but despite extensive research, the mechanisms maintaining this polymorphism are still unresolved. One hypothesis is that MHC polymorphism is a result of balancing selection operating by overdominance, but convincing evidence for overdominant selection in natural populations has been lacking. We present strong evidence consistent with MHC-specific overdominance in a free-living population of Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) in northernmost Europe. In this population, where just two MHC alleles were observed, MHC heterozygous fish had a lower parasite load, were in better condition (as estimated by a…

Surface Defects as a Tool to Solubilize and Functionalize WS 2 Nanotubes

2017

Layered transition metal dichalcogenides contain a number of crystal defects which significantly change their properties may be beneficial or detrimental for a specific application. We have prepared defect-rich multiwalled WS2 nanotubes by reductive sulfidization of W18O49 nanowires that were obtained solvothermally from tungsten chloride in different alcohols. The synthesis of the W18O49 nanowires was monitored and their morphological characteristics (e. g. length, rigidity and aspect ratio) are described in detail. The effect of morphology of the nanowires on the synthesis of WS2 nanotubes was investigated in order to obtain WS2 nanotubes that are highly solvent dispersible. Dispersions o…

A Concise, Asymmetric Synthesis of Tetramic Acid Derivatives

2002

[reaction: see text] A simple, asymmetric synthesis of tetramic acid derivatives is described in this paper. The key step is a carbonyl transfer from carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) to alpha-diimines (I) to form N-alkyl-4-alkylamino-5-methylenepyrrol-2-ones (II). In turn, these compounds can be easily transformed into tetramic acid derivatives (III) in two additional steps.

The Politics of Debate in the Union Societies

2016

The chapter discusses the disputes over procedure in the private meetings of the Union Societies and how they can be interpreted politically. Haapala points out that some of the rules were adopted from the House of Commons, although the Unions did not follow the parliamentary model in all respects. As well as noting that the politics of debate in the Unions was largely conducted through rule interpretation and challenging the decisions of the president, the chapter also draws attention to the role of the standing committees, the vast powers of Union presidents and the rhetorical strategies the members used in the debates. The chapter ends with a typology of politicisation of the rules in th…
