The methodology for active testing of electronic devices under the radiations

2018

The methodology, developed for active testing of electronic devices under the radiations, is presented. The test set-up includes a gamma-ray facility, the hardware board/fixtures and the software tools purposely designed and realized. The methodology is so wide-ranging to allow us the verification of different classes of electronic devices, even if only application examples for static random access memory modules are reported.

Graphical user interface for serial protocols through a USB link

2012

In this work, a graphical user interface to communicate with three common serial protocols is presented. With one tool, the user may be able to control several evaluation boards from different manufacturers or evaluate and program integrated circuits of complex board prototypes. It provides a user-friendly interface to communicate with several chips using the USB port. The program has been used for the first stages in the qualification process of electronic boards for the Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA).

An Empirical Set of Metrics for Embedded Systems Testing

2018

Editor’s note: Selecting the right platform for an embedded system is a challenging task, because there are no systematic methodologies for comprehensive evaluation and comparison of competing alternatives. This article partially addresses this problem by formulating a set of relevant metrics and an evaluation methodology. By applying their concepts to the evaluation of two alternative platforms, the Raspberry Pi3 and the Intel Edison boards, the authors demonstrate the utility of their approach and show under which objectives one is preferable over the other. —Axel Jantsch, TU Wien

Do Firms Share the Same Functional Form of Their Growth Rate Distribution? A New Statistical Test

2011

We propose a hypothesis testing procedure to investigate whether the same growth rate distribution is shared by all the firms in a balanced panel or, more generally, whether they share the same functional form for this distribution, without necessarily sharing the same parameters. We apply the test to panels of US and European Union publicly quoted manufacturing firms, both at the sectoral and at the subsectoral NAICS levels. We consider the following null hypotheses about the growth rate distribution of the individual firms: i) an unknown shape common to all firms, with all the firms sharing also the same parameters, or with the firm variance related to its firm size through a scaling rela…

A Comparison Between Japanese and French Cost Management – Contingency and Institutional Perspectives

2018

From an historical perspective, management accounting is a very recent phenomenon (see Johnson & Kaplan, 1987) and is culturally grounded in a few old-industrialized countries, in Europe: Germany, United-Kingdom, France, but also in Japan and in the United-States. Notwithstanding the cultural dominance of English-speaking countries on management, non-English speaking countries keep strong institutional and cultural roots that still influence their ways of managing companies. This is the case when looking at management accounting and more especially at cost accounting and cost management practices (now cost accounting/management). This paper, based on contingency and institutional frameworks…

The dynamics over the next few years of the Spanish mobile telecommunications market share: a mathematical modelling approach

2013

Taking into account available data from 2002 to 2009 about the market share percentages of the Spanish mobile telecommunications service providers, a dynamic diffusion model to study the evolution of the clients’ change between the different companies during the period 2010–2016 is proposed. The constructed model provides a tool for forecasting short-term trends about the customers’ preferences with respect to mobile network operators taking into account both, autonomous decisions due to direct marketing and advertising strategies, and also decisions adopted through interaction via social influence. The model can provide insights to companies for designing strategies in order to gain market…

The Role of Parasocial Interaction and Teleparticipation on Teleshopping Behaviour

2011

Nowadays, television media has evolved into an important channel of direct selling that brands and advertisers are exploiting. Many technological changes (e.g., digital television appearance or the integration of Internet in the TV medium and mobile technology) have increasingly led to consumers see television as a channel for purchasing products and services and as a source of information (Beyer et al., 2007). However, researchers have put little interest on teleshopping, one of the consumer behaviour phenomena.

Adapting robot paths for automated NDT of complex structures using ultrasonic alignment

2019

Automated inspection systems using industrial robots have been available for several years. The IntACom robot inspection system was developed at TWI Wales and utilizes phased array ultrasonic probes to inspect complex geometries, in particular aerospace composite components. To increase inspection speed and accuracy, off-line path planning is employed to define a series of robotic movements following the surface of a component. To minimize influences of refraction at the component interface and effects of anisotropy, the ultrasonic probe must be kept perpendicular to the surface throughout the inspection. Deviations between the actual component and computer model used for path-planning resu…

Public versus private broadcasters’ management

2014

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to prove the existence of significant differences between private and public corporate credibility antecedents and effects. Design/methodology/approach – Totally, 816 Spanish viewers’ valuations were obtained (408 for the public television network and 408 for four private first generation broadcasters). Results show that some corporate reputation antecedents (perceived quality) and effects (attitudes) are stronger when private broadcasters are considered. Findings – Result show that proposed credibility reputation antecedents and effects are significant and that some differences between private and public entities really do exist. Research limitations…

The Diffusion of the Activity-Based Costing Method: A Comparison between France and China

2011

In France, like in the USA, the Activity-based Costing method (ABC) was considered as a remedy for the crisis of management accounting. Now, the level of diffusion in France is as important as in the Anglo-Saxon countries. Not surprisingly, the ABC method is more developed in western countries than in China. Chinese scholars began to do researches on ABC in the 1990s and at the beginnings of the 21st century, we can observe some ABC implementations in Chinese manufacturing enterprises and then in the service industries. But, we can also find a similarity between the Chinese and French situations. In France, we have observed some resistances to the Anglo-Saxon way of manage firms and at the …
