Objective: Improvements in the management of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) result in increased life expectancy. Thus it is likely that anesthetists will see this patients with increasing frequency. This study describes our experiences in the anesthetic management of CF patients. Methods: We descriptively and retrospectively reviewed the records of all CF patients from 1981 until 1997 who underwent elective surgery in our department of ear, nose and throat and in whom general anesthesia was required. Since 2015, the European Laryngological Society (ELS) has organized on a yearly basis the European Laryngological Live Surgery Broadcast. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate the increasing worldwide audience. The number of individual computers logged in, number of estimated audience, and number of countries with an active audience were calculated and compared to the numbers in 2015. In 2018, 19 live interventions were performed in three parallel sessions. The surgeons worked in 10 departments in 8 different countries. Communal data work: Data sharing and re-use in clinical genetics

In this article, we examine work with communal data in the context of clinical genetic testing. Drawing from prior research on digital research infrastructures and from the analysis of our empirical data on genetic testing, we describe how data generated in laboratories distributed all over the world are shared and re-used. Our research findings point to six different human-driven activities related to expanding, disambiguating, sanitizing and assessing the relevance, validity and combinability of data. We contribute to research within Health Informatics with a framework that foregrounds human-driven activities for data interoperability.

Objective: To evaluate the predictability of narrow-diameter implants as a treatment option in routine clinical practice. A literature review was performed of studies reporting clinical results obtained with these implants. Survival rates, peri-implant bone loss and related complications were evaluated. The working hypothesis was that narrow-diameter implants offer clinical results similar to those obtained with implants of greater diameter. Background Transthyretin related familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy (TTR-FAP) is an inherited form of amyloidosis, leading to death in about 10 years in most cases for cardiac failure or wasting syndrome. Previous study showed that modified body mass index (mBMI) was related to time before death, duration of gastrointestinal disturbances, malabsorption and functional capacity. Futhermore, outcome after liver tranplantation was greater in patients with an mBMI over 600.
