Employment contract, job insecurity and employees’ affective well-being: The role of self- and collective efficacy
2018
A large amount of research has focused on job insecurity, but without obtaining consistent results. Some authors have pointed that this variability might be due to the operationalization of job insecurity. Different types of job insecurity can provoke different employee reactions. The aim of this study is to analyse the effect of job insecurity, understood as temporary employment (objective job insecurity) and personal perception (subjective job insecurity), on affective well-being. In addition, the moderator roles of job self-efficacy and collective efficacy are examined in the relationship between job insecurity and employees’ affective well-being. This study was carried out with 1435 emp…

Mathematical literacy in Plant Physiology undergraduates: results of interventions aimed at improving students' performance
2013
The importance of mathematical literacy in any scientific career is widely recognized. However, various studies report lack of numeracy and mathematical literacy in students from various countries. In the present work we present a detailed study of the mathematical literacy of Spanish undergraduate students of Biology enrolled in a Plant Physiology course. We have performed individual analyses of results obtained during the period 2000-2011, for questions in the examinations requiring and not requiring mathematical skills. Additionally, we present the outcome of two interventions introduced with the aim of helping students improve their prospects for success in the course. Our results confi…
Effects of feedback on self-efficacy, performance, and choice in an athletic task
1999
Abstract The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of feedback on self-efficacy, performance, and task choice, and the mediating effects of self-efficacy in the feedback-performance and task choice relationships. Participants were 69 Spanish students, 46 males and 23 females, between 18 and 24 years. The experimental paradigm consisted of three sessions. In the first, participants performed on the hurdles. In the second, manipulated feedback referring to the previous performance was provided. Participants then estimated their self-efficacy for a second task which they later performed. In the third session, participants were presented with three tasks involving clearing hurdles of p…
Use of interprofessional simulation-based learning to develop perioperative nursing students' self-efficacy in responding to acute situations
2021
Abstract Self-efficacy is an essential concept regarding academic performance and persistence in higher education. Research indicates that interprofessional simulation-based learning influences participants’ self-efficacy and points to a need for more research on self-efficacy and its development. This study describes perioperative nursing students’ experiences with how interprofessional simulation-based learning contributes to self-efficacy in communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and prioritising tasks in acute situations. Six qualitative focus group interviews were conducted with thirty-four perioperative nursing students from four universities and university colleges in Norway…
Sense of coherence and psychological well-being in cardiac patients: Is the association mediated by self-efficacy?
2019
Aim of the studyA large deal of research on cardiac patients concentrates on analyses of mutual relationships between sense of coherence and psychological well-being, sense of coherence and self-efficacy, or psychological well-being and self-efficacy. It has been proven that self-efficacy plays a crucial role as a mediator of the relationships between various psychological constructs.Subject or material and methodsA total number of 176 patients (82 women and 94 men), age 45-82 years (M = 58.56, SD = 8.25) participated in the study. All participants were patients admitted to the cardiology department with coronary heart disease and undergoing medical interventions. All participants were aske…
Rasch Analysis of the Japanese Version of Teacher Efficacy for Inclusive Practices Scale: Scale Unidimensionality
2020
This study aimed to examine the construct validity of the Japanese version of the Teacher Efficacy for Inclusive Practices (TEIP) scale. The sample consisted of 250 teachers in Japan. Rasch analysis was used to examine the psychometric properties of the scale. Results did not support the 18-item Japanese version of the TEIP scale as a unidimensional scale for measuring TEIP. However, they do support the final 14-item Japanese version of the TEIP scale as a unidimensional scale for measuring TEIP. Four items were removed from the original 18-item scale (items 12, 8, 5, and 3) for violation of the local independency assumption. No item with differential item functioning (DIF) was detected. On…
Associations Between the Residential Environment and Physical Activity in German College Students and the Role of Self-Efficacy as a Mediator
2014
Social-ecological models suggest that influences on physical activity should be examined on multiple levels, but most of the empirical studies in this area have investigated the different levels separately. To integrate the different levels, we examined self-efficacy with respect to physical exercise as a mediator of the relation between environmental characteristics and physical activity. In a cross-sectional German study, 1,292 college students completed a questionnaire that included measures of their perceived residential environment, self-efficacy, and physical activity. Structural equation modeling was used to assess direct and indirect effects on physical activity. The cycling and wa…
