1. tipa cukura diabēts (1.TCD) ir viena no biežākajām hroniskajām slimībām bērniem līdz 18 gadu vecumam. Tā ir saistīta ar vairākiem sarežģījumiem – nepieciešams nepārtrauk-ti sekot savam veselības stāvoklim, regulāri pārbaudīt glikozes līmeni asinīs un veikt insulīna injekcijas. Tas viss ir nepieciešams, lai izvairītos no komplikācijām, bet tam var būt negatīva ietekme uz bērna ikdienas dzīvi. 1.TCD ir autoimūna slimība, kuru raksturo aizkuņģa dzie-dzera Langerhansa saliņu insulīnu producējošu β šūnu zudums. 1.TCD patoģenēze ir sarežģī-ta – tajā ir iesaistīti vairāki faktori, viens no tiem ir ģenētiska predispozīcija patoloģiskām imūnreakcijām. A new synonym and a new combination in Stipa aliena Keng (Poaceae: Stipa sect. Regelia)

Stipa section Regelia comprises three species occurring in mountainous areas of Central Asia. One of them, S. smithii , was described by Martinovský in 1970, but the taxon has been overlooked in later taxonomical studies. The species was described with two varieties, var. smithii and var. macrocarpa . As a result of our taxonomical studies, we find the typical variety of the taxon to be conspecific with Stipa aliena , and propose that the second one be recognized as Stipa aliena var. macrocarpa comb. nov. Remarks on species belonging to section Regelia and micromorphological patterns of their lemma morphologies are discussed. A key to species close to S. aliena is provided.
Stipa klimesii (Poaceae), a new species from Western Himalayas (India)

Stipa klimesii sp. nov. from the Western Himalayas (India: Ladakh) and its variety S. klimesii var. pubescens var. nov. are described. The new species is similar to S. roborowskyi but differs by its longer anthecium, longer ligules of vegetative shoots, longer hairs on seta and shorter awns. Stipa klimesii is also similar to S. purpurea, but differs by longer ligules of vegetative shoots, shorter awns, slightly shorter hairs on seta and by the character of the panicle, which is compressed and with straight branches in S. klimesii vs. lax and with flexuous branches in S. purpurea. Sakarības novērtējums starp bronhu hiperreaktivitāti un otrā tipa cukura diabētu

Otrā tipa cukura diabēta un astmas sastopamība pēdējās dekādēs ir krietni palielinājusies, sasniedzot epidēmijas apmērus. Pēdējās divas desmitgadēs ir publicēti pētījumi, kas liecina, ka pacientiem ar 2.tipa cukura diabētu ir samazināti plaušu funkcionālie rādītāji. Pētījumu skaits par cukura diabēta negatīvajiem aspektiem un komplikācijām, kas saistītas ar plaušu funkcijas traucējumiem, ir salīdzinoši neliels un rezultāti pretrunīgi. Mūsu pētījumā tika izvirzīta hipotēze, ka pacientiem ar 2.tipa cukura diabētu ir lielāks risks saslimt ar bronhiālo astmu. Background Pain is a common and highly debilitating complication for cancer patients significantly compromising their quality of life. Cancer-induced bone pain involves a complex interplay of multiple mechanisms including both inflammatory and neuropathic processes and also some unique changes. Strong opioids are a mainstay of treatments but side effects are problematic and can compromise optimal pain control. A study on the statistical properties of double hoyt fading channels

This paper deals with a study on the statistical properties of narrowband amplify-and-forward relay fading channels for Hoyt multipath propagation environments. We consider the basic radio link topology, where only one fixed relay station is used for the amplification. In this case, the envelope of the signal received over the overall multipath channel is modeled by the so-called double Hoyt fading process. In a previous study we designed a 20-residue peptide able to adopt a significant population of a three-stranded antiparallel beta-sheet in aqueous solution (de Alba et al. [1999]Protein Sci.8, 854-865). In order to better understand the factors contributing to beta-sheet folding and stability we designed and prepared nine variants of the parent peptide by substituting residues at selected positions in its strands. The ability of these peptides to form the target motif was assessed on the basis of NMR parameters, in particular NOE data and 13Calpha conformational shifts.
