Epitaxial growth of molybdenum on TiO2(110)

2003

Abstract Molybdenum was deposited on blue (i.e. non-stoichiometric) TiO2(1 1 0) surface using a very low deposition rate (less than 0.05 eqML min−1). The resulting deposit was investigated by means of X-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD), LEED and XPS. Just after deposition, the film is mainly constituted of metallic molybdenum, contains oxygen homogeneously dispersed through the whole deposit and the broad features detected in XPD scans are interpreted as a coarse epitaxy between TiO2(1 1 0) surface and the (0 0 1) face of bcc molybdenum. The orientation relationship is: Mo(1 0 0)[0 0 1]//TiO2(1 1 0)[0 0 1]. After annealing the deposit at 673 K, XPD scans become sharper and epitaxy is ach…

LC circuit mediated sympathetic cooling of a proton via image currents

2021

Abstract Efficient cooling of trapped charged particles is essential in many fundamental physics experiments, for high-precision metrology, and for quantum technology. Until now, ion-ion coupling for sympathetic cooling or quantum state control has been limited to ion species with accessible optical transitions or has required close-range Coulomb interactions. To overcome this limitation and further develop scalable quantum control techniques, there has been a sustained desire to extend laser-cooling techniques to particles in macroscopically separated traps, opening quantum control techniques to previously inaccessible particles such as highly charged ions, molecular ions, and antimatter p…

Photoelastic Analysis of Partially Occluded Objects With an Integral-Imaging Polariscope

2014

Polariscopes are the basic instruments used for the analysis of the stress state of transparent materials. Polarized light passing through a 3D object carries the integrated effect of the stress field along the light path. Therefore, conventional polariscopes are not able to discern the stress state of objects involving multiple plates with mutual occlusions. In this paper we propose a novel experimental system for three-dimensional stress analysis based on the combination of a polariscope and Synthetic Aperture Integral Imaging technique. Experimental results show the system's ability to recover the information of the stress distribution of a set of plates located at different depths havin…

TRACX2: a RAAM -like autoencoder modeling graded chunking in infant visual -sequence learning

2017

International audience; Even newborn infants are able to extract structure from a stream of sensory inputs and yet, how this is achieved remains largely a mystery. We present a connectionist autoencoder model, TRACX2, that learns to extract sequence structure by gradually constructing chunks, storing these chunks in a distributed manner across its synaptic weights, and recognizing these chunks when they re-occur in the input stream. Chunks are graded rather than all-or-none in nature and during learning their component parts become ever more tightly bound together. TRACX2 successfully models data from four experiments from the infant visual statistical-learning literature, including tasks i…

La Self-Efficacy del Docente Universitario in Situazione di Emergenza Covid-19

2021

Layout influence on microwave performance of graphene field effect transistors

2018

The authors report on an in-depth statistical and parametrical investigation on the microwave performance of graphene FETs on sapphire substrate. The devices differ for the gate-drain/source distance and for the gate length, having kept instead the gate width constant. Microwave S -parameters have been measured for the different devices. Their results demonstrate that the cut-off frequency does not monotonically increase with the scaling of the device geometry and that it exists an optimal region in the gate-drain/source and gate-length space which maximises the microwave performance.

Graphene Field-Effect Transistors Employing Different Thin Oxide Films: A Comparative Study

2019

In this work, we report on a comparison among graphene field-effect transistors (GFETs) employing different dielectrics as gate layers to evaluate their microwave response. In particular, aluminum oxide (Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$), titanium oxide (TiO$_{2}$), and hafnium oxide (HfO$_{2}$) have been tested. GFETs have been fabricated on a single chip and a statistical analysis has been performed on a set of 24 devices for each type of oxide. Direct current and microwave measurements have been carried out on such GFETs and short circuit current gain and maximum available gain have been chosen as quality factors to evaluate their microwave performance. Our results show that all of the devices belonging …

Improved time-resolved acousto-optic technique for optical fiber analysis of axial non-uniformities by using edge interrogation

2015

The time-resolved acousto-optic technique demonstrated recently to be a very useful method for the analysis of fiber axial non-uniformities, able to detect variations of fiber diameter in the nanometric scale with a spatial resolution of few cm. An edge interrogation approach is proposed to improve further the performance of this technique. The detection of subnanometer fiber diameter changes or sub-ppm changes of the core refractive index is demonstrated.
