The interaction of codes in dubbing: wordplay and visual restrictions

The following paper delves into the complex transfer of humour focusing on a recurring problem that appears when dubbing comedies: wordplay partially transmitted by image. It analyses the factors that have a bearing on translation and illustrates the various translation techniques with scenes from the Marx Brothers' filmography. Finally, it details the conclusions obtained from the analysis of the dubbing of 74 puns with visual restriction and its comparison with 116 cases where there is no such restriction.

This paper is based on the premise that “some of the basic skills needed to understand film and television are identical to those necessary for natural visual perception” (Grodal 1999: 76). Perception is an unconscious and natural way of interpreting our environment based on prior experience and learning. Introducción: Adaptar y valorar el cuestionario de calidad de vida denominado Canadian Celiac Health Survey (CCHS). Objetivo: Traducir y adaptar en castellano el cuestionario CCHS para poder ser utilizado por la población de habla hispana puesto que se trata de un cuestionario específico para la celiaquía. Método: La adaptación del CCHS, que consta de 76 ítems distribuidos en 11 secciones diferentes, se realizó mediante el método de traducción-retrotraducción y tras ser revisado y consensuado se procedió a realizar una prueba piloto con 25 personas celíacas, de forma individual y por un miembro del grupo de investigación, para valorar la comprensión de los ítems y sus secciones. Edició i estudi" fixa el text d'aquest incunable i el compara a doble columna amb el text del qual és deutor, la Vita Christi de Ludolf de Saxònia. La datació de l'obra, entre febrer i març de 1495, i l'atribució a un taller, el de Hagenbach-Hutz a la ciutat de València, es realitza per mitjà de l'anàlisi de dades codicològiques i d'història de la impremta en aquesta ciutat. Aquesta anàlisi permet també situar adequadament el projecte d'edició dels quatre volums que conformen el Cartoixà de Corella a finals del segle XV. The commentary to the Hippocratic treatise De humoribus, which was accepted as an authentic Galenic work till recent times, uses to be nowadays assigned to a mid-XVIth. century author of false ancient manuscripts, the Greek Andreas Darmarios. In spite of this, the text presents several kinds of problems that suggest a careful revisiting of the question. This article presents some of such problems and looks for a different explanation by means of the interaction of the languages involved in the transmission of the text.

Hence translation and cultural studies need approaches, beyond the national, to fuzzy linguistic and cultural forms. One such case originates from the Nanking Massacre, which occurred in the East Asian theatre of WWII. Al hacerlo no ampliamos en realidad el concepto de accesibilidad, sino que reforzamos aquello que justifica el uso de este término, para diferenciar una parcela de actividad dentro de la práctica general de la traducción y la interpretación.
