The libraries of religious orders have been since their …

Predicting who fails to meet the physical activity guideline in pregnancy: a prospective study of objectively recorded physical activity in a populat…

2016

Background A low physical activity (PA) level in pregnancy is associated with several adverse health outcomes. Early identification of pregnant women at risk of physical inactivity could inform strategies to promote PA, but no studies so far have presented attempts to develop prognostic models for low PA in pregnancy. Based on moderate-to-vigorous intensity PA (MVPA) objectively recorded in mid/late pregnancy, our objectives were to describe MVPA levels and compliance with the PA guideline (≥150 MVPA minutes/week), and to develop a prognostic model for non-compliance with the PA guideline. Methods From a multi-ethnic population-based cohort, we analysed data from 555 women with MVPA recorde…

Graphic proposal for the great hall of the Palace of the Counts of Oliva

2021

[EN] The now-demolished Palace of the Counts of Oliva, in the province of Valencia (Spain), was an outstanding example of late Gothic and early Renaissance architecture and art. Its great hall was particularly impressive, with rich, complex decoration that constituted a cultural milestone linked recently to the ‘Germanías’, or Brotherhoods. Through research conducted in image and document collections, a graphic reproduction of the room has been produced, with special emphasis on its frieze. The procedures and techniques used in this process are examined here, before a final contemplation of the possible uses for these results.

Chapter 17 Muscarinic receptors and cell signalling

1996

Publisher Summary Cells have developed signal transduction mechanisms in order to communicate with the cell exterior. Acetylcholine as an external signal is recognized by nicotinic and muscarinic receptors. This chapter presents various muscarinic receptors belonging to the superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors consisting of seven transmembrane (TM) helices tightly packed in a ring-like structure and arranged in a counter-clockwise fashion. Agonist binding leads to a conformational change of the receptor, thereby activating associated G proteins. Muscarinic stimulation of G proteins leads to the activation or inhibition of ion channels, such as K + and Ca 2+ channels, the activation of…

Characterization of crystalline structure and morphology of Ga2O3 thin film grown by MOCVD technique

2017

Growth of gallium oxide thin film was realized with MOCVD on (0001) sapphire substrate. Structural and compositional properties of thin film were studied employing trimethylgallium and water as precursors, carrier gases were H2 and N2. Obtained film is polycrystalline and predominantly consisted of (201) oriented β-Ga2O3. Sample exhibited blue luminescence which is attributed to oxygen vacancies. H2 gas proved to have beneficial effect on film quality and overall growth process.

Centrins, gatekeepers for the light-dependent translocation of transducin through the photoreceptor cell connecting cilium

2006

Centrins are members of a highly conserved subgroup of the EF-hand superfamily of Ca(2+)-binding proteins commonly associated with centrosome-related structures. In the retina, centrins are also prominent components of the photoreceptor cell ciliary apparatus. Centrin isoforms are differentially localized at the basal body and in the lumen of the connecting cilium. All molecular exchanges between the inner and outer segments occur through this narrow connecting cilium. Ca(2+)-activated centrin isoforms bind to the visual heterotrimeric G-protein transducin via an interaction with the betagamma-subunit. Ca(2+)-dependent assemblies of centrin/G-protein complexes may regulate the transducin mo…
