The Essential Oil Compositions of Three Teucrium Taxa Growing Wild in Sicily: HCA and PCA Analyses
2021
The chemical composition and the qualitative and quantitative variability of the essential oils of three taxa belonging to the Teucrium genus were studied. The investigated taxa, that grow wild in Sicily, were Teucrium flavum L. (section Chamaedrys (Mill.) Scheb.), Teucrium montanum and Teucrium capitatum L. of section Polium (Mill.) Scheb. Essential oils were extracted by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-MS. In total, 74 compounds were identified. Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons were found to be the main group for T. flavum (48.3%). T. capitatum consisted essentially of monoterpene hydrocarbons (72.7%), with &alpha
Multivariate approach to reveal relationships between sensory perception of cheeses and aroma profile obtained with different extraction methods
2014
A new and original statistical approach was used to compare the effectiveness of 4 different methods to analyse aroma compounds of seven different commercial semi-hard cheeses with regard to their orthonasal sensory perception. Four extraction methods were evaluated: Purge and Trap, Artificial Mouth, Solid-Phase Microextraction (SPME) and Solvent-Assisted Flavour Evaporation (SAFE). Among the headspace methods, Artificial Mouth gave the closest representation of the studied product space to the sensory perception one. The SAFE method was complementary to the dynamic headspace methods, as it was very efficient in extracting the heavy molecules but less efficient for extracting the most volat…
A Two-Year Bio-Agronomic and Chemotaxonomic Evaluation of Wild Sicilian Myrtle (Myrtus communis L.) Berries and Leaves.
2019
A collection of nine Myrtus communis samples from different localities of Sicily was evaluated. Morphological traits and production characteristics have been chosen as parameters to arrange the samples into homogeneous groups and to identify the best biotypes for possible future agro-industrial exploitation. The plant material has been subjected to taxonomic characterization from biometric and phytochemical perspectives. Myrtle berries and leaves have been analyzed for their content in metabolites, applying a cascade extraction protocol for M. communis leaves and a single hydroalcoholic extraction for berries, whereas hydrodistillation procedures have been applied to obtain the essential oi…
Memory cell structure integrated on semiconductor
2004
This invention relates to a memory cell Which comprises a capacitor having a ?rst electrode and a second electrode separated by a dielectric layer. Such dielectric layer com prises a layer of a semi-insulating material Which is fully enveloped by an insulating material and in Which an electric charge is permanently present or trapped therein. Such electric charge accumulated close to the ?rst or to the second electrode, depending on the electric ?eld betWeen the electrodes, therebyde?ningdifferentlogiclevels.
Antibacterial and antioxidant activities in Sideritis italica (Miller) Greuter et Burdet essential oils
2006
Sideritis italica (Miller) Greuter et Burdet is a widespread Lamiacea in the Mediterranean region used in traditional medicine. Essential oils were antibacterial against nine ATCC and as many clinically isolated Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. Antibacterial activity was also found against Helicobacter pylori: a dose-dependant inhibition was shown between 5 and 25 microg/ml. The antibacterial activity of the oils was expressed as MICs (minimum inhibitory concentrations) and MBCs (minimum bactericidal concentrations). At a concentration between 3.9 and 250 microg/ml the oils showed a significant antibacterial effect against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. In …
Distribution of the threshold voltage window in nanocrystal memories with Si dots formed by chemical vapor deposition: Effect of partial self-ordering
2004
Non volatile memories based on Si nanocrystals (Si-ncs) offer an important alternative to conventional floating gate devices, for the numerous potential advantages associated with the discrete-trap structures [1]. Isolated Si-ncs can be obtained by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) through a fully compatible CMOS process. So far, the main limitation for scaling the CVD Si-nc memories at sub-90 nm node is related to the expected fluctuation, from bit to bit, in the device threshold voltage (VTH), due to the spread in the sur- face fraction (Rdot) covered with Si dots [2]. The reason is the assumption that the dot position and the relative distance are fully random. It will be shown that the nu…
TID and SEE Tests of an Advanced 8 Gbit NAND-Flash Memory
2008
We report on the dose and operational mode dependence of error percentage, stand-by current, erase and write time of 8 Gbit / 4 Gbit NAND-flash memories as well as on their static, dynamic and SEFI cross sections.
Strain-induced improvement of retention loss in PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3 films
2015
The retention behavior of nanoscale domains in PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3 thin films is investigated by in-situ controlling the epitaxial strain arising from a piezoelectric substrate. The retention behavior in our sample shows strong polarity-dependence: Upward-poled domains exhibit excellent stability, whereas downward-poled domains reveal a stretched exponential decay. Reversible release of in-plane compressive strain strongly reduced the retention loss, reflected in an enhancement of the relaxation time by up to one order of magnitude. We tentatively attribute the observed behavior to a strain dependence of the built-in field at the interface to the La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 bottom electrode, with a possible …
Single-Event Effects in the Peripheral Circuitry of a Commercial Ferroelectric Random Access Memory
2018
International audience; This paper identifies the failure modes of a commercial 130-nm ferroelectric random access memory. The devices were irradiated with heavy-ion and pulsed focused X-ray beams. Various failure modes are observed, which generate characteristic error patterns, affecting isolated bits, words, groups of pages, and sometimes entire regions of the memory array. The underlying mechanisms are discussed.
Radiation tolerance of NROM embedded products
2010
Radiation tolerance of NROM memories is demonstrated at the level of industrial 4 Mbit memory embedded modules, specifically not designed for operation in radiation harsh environments. The memory fabricated in 0.18 um technology remains fully functional after total ionization doses exceeding 100 krad. The tests were performed by irradiating with γ-rays (60Co source) and 10 MeV 11B ions in active (during programming/erase and read-out) and passive (no bias) modes. Comprehensive statistics were obtained by using large memory arrays and comparison of the data with the parameters of irradiated single cells allowed deep understanding of the physical phenomena in the irradiated NROM devices for b…
