Chiral bis(amino alcohol)oxalamides as ligands for asymmetric catalysis. Ti(IV) catalyzed enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes

2005

Abstract Several chiral bis(aminoalcohol)oxalamides with C 2 -symmetry have been prepared and used as ligands for the enantioselective addition of diethylzinc to aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes. The reaction proceeds in the presence of titanium isopropoxide to give the corresponding ( S )-alcohols with ee up to 78%. In the absence of Ti(IV), the alcohols with the opposite configuration are obtained.

Enantioselective zinc-mediated conjugate addition of terminal alkynes to enones.

2012

Zinc for conjugate alkynylation: The enantioselective conjugate addition of terminal alkynes to 2-arylidene-1,3-diketones in the presence of diethylzinc and a catalytic amount of (R)-VANOL has been developed. The reaction can be applied to different aromatic and heteroaromatic alkynes and enones, giving the expected products in good yield and with enantiomeric excesses up to 91%. The products can be enantiomerically enriched up to 99% ee by crystallization (see scheme).

Catalytic Enantioselective Cyclopropylalkynylation of Aldimines Generated In Situ from α-Amido Sulfones

2022

A convenient procedure of synthesis of N-carbamoyl-protected propargylic amines substituted with a cyclopropyl group from α-amido sulfones and cyclopropylacetylene is described. The reaction is catalyzed by a chiral BINOL-type zinc complex and provides the corresponding products in good yields and enantioselectivities.

Ovulation-inducing activity of luliberin (LHRH) complexed by copper(II), nickel(II), and zinc(II) ions.

1990

We have shown that the complexation of luteinizing hormone releasing hormone, luliberin (LHRH), a hypothalamic neurohormone, by Cu(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) may affect its basic, ovulation-inducing potency in the dose responsive manner. Some explanation of the obtained results are offered here.

Stereoselective synthesis and application of tridentate aminodiols derived from (+)-pulegone

2016

Abstract A library of tridentate aminodiols, derived from naturally occurring (R)-(+)-pulegone, was synthesized and applied as chiral catalysts in the addition of diethylzinc to benzaldehyde. The reduction of pulegone furnished pulegol, which was transformed into allylic trichloroacetamide via Overman rearrangement of the corresponding trichloroacetimidate. The protected enamine was subjected to dihydroxylation with OsO4/NMO system resulting in a 1:1 mixture of (1R,2R,4R)- and (1S,2S,4R)-aminodiol diastereomers. After the removal of the trichloroacetyl protecting groups, the obtained primary aminodiols were transformed into secondary ones. The regioselectivity of the ring closure of the N-b…

Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Microspectroscopy of 20th Century Russian Oil Paintings: Problem of Dating

2015

Analysis of the IR spectra of samples from 230 Russian oil paintings of the 20th century is used to propose a procedure for the threshold estimation of the age of paintings based on measured parameters (intensity ratios of spectral bands). The bands of compounds that are formed upon interaction of pigment (zinc white) with oil are used for dating.

Joaquin Sorolla's pigment characterisation of the paintings ‘Vision of Spain’ by means of EDXRF portable system

2011

In this work, portable energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometry was employed to the characterisation of the palette used by the Spanish artist Joaquin Sorolla (1863–1923) in the paintings ‘Vision of Spain’, a set of 14 oils on canvas painted by Sorolla between 1911 and 1919 by order of Mr Archer Huntington to decorate the library of the Hispanic Society of America (HSA) in New York. The analyses, sponsored by BANCAJA and provided by the HSA, were carried out in situ, prior to the cleaning and restoration process, while the paintings hanging on the walls of the library of the HSA. The results revealed that the paintings were made over different priming layers containing, res…

Common variants conferring risk of schizophrenia

2009

Schizophrenia is a complex disorder, caused by both genetic and environmental factors and their interactions. Research on pathogenesis has traditionally focused on neurotransmitter systems in the brain, particularly those involving dopamine. Schizophrenia has been considered a separate disease for over a century, but in the absence of clear biological markers, diagnosis has historically been based on signs and symptoms. A fundamental message emerging from genome-wide association studies of copy number variations (CNVs) associated with the disease is that its genetic basis does not necessarily conform to classical nosological disease boundaries. Certain CNVs confer not only high relative ris…

Heat shock protein Hsp70 expression and DNA damage in Baikalian sponges exposed to model pollutants and wastewater from Baikalsk Pulp and Paper Plant

2002

Abstract Lake Baikal, a unique habitat for a great number of endemic species, is the largest freshwater reservoir in the world which is still largely unaffected by anthropogenic pollution, except for some shore regions with industrial activity. The expressions of a biomarker of exposure (heat shock protein Hsp70) and a biomarker of effect (DNA single-strand breaks) were measured for the first time in endemic Baikalian sponge species (Baikalospongia intermedia, Lubomirskia fusifera, and Lubomirskia abietina). Tissue cubes of B. intermedia and dissociated cells of L. fusifera and L. abietina reacted to temperature stress (10–16 °C above ambient temperature) with a time-dependent increase in e…
